    It's insane how famous RRR has gotten for it's over the top nature because the director, S.S.Rajamouli is known for this type of filmmaking and this is not even his most ridiculous outing. He has a film where the lead is killed and reincarnated as a house fly and exacts revenge on his murderer AS A FLY with the help of his ex girlfriend.

    • @robbiemcarley
      @robbiemcarley Před rokem +16

      People talk about the outrageous stuff but I don't think that's why it broke through. It's the fact that all of the excess manages to support the emotional and thematic story instead of distract from it. I don't love RRR because the stunts make me laugh, I love it because it makes me cry tears of joy and sadness and beauty. Some will love it with irony but I don't think it would have broke through on that alone. It's a totally maximal cinema experience.

    this month I saw The Muppets' Christmas Carol for the first time. I really liked it, I thought I wouldnt really get into it because most of the characters are muppets but I was really invested. It was very funny and charming and I loved how sincere it is. I feel like a lot of comedies now feel the need to be a bit cynical so it was nice to see a film that was completely sincere. Also Michael Caine did a really good job, I was honestly really impressed and he made Scrooge feel like a real person. I like that he always acted as if the other characters werent muppets because that helped me get into the film. Great Christmas film 9/10

You may need to watch Rogue One first before watching the show if you haven't-but Andor is a _ridiculously_ amazing show, and is considered by most (including myself) to be one of the best things Disney SW has put out. If you decide to give it a try, watch the first 3 episodes, it's a bit of a slowburn and those first three episodes allow you to gain insight of its world/characters-but from thereinafter, it gets *really* good. Top Gun obviously deserves top 10. I don't know a single person who's seen it who disagrees. You must have a strange audience if they dislike an amazing, beautiful blockbuster like that, one that actually brought people back to the theaters for the first time in a long time.

    A few for this month:
    Matilda the Musical:
    Already seen it twice and I want to go again (in the UK it's in cinemas for a while longer). Fantastic translation of the stage musical, adds what it needs to make it cinematic, but can also make intimate scenes quieter. Great casting, choreography, singing, sets etc. Yeah one or two bits are missed from the stage, but as an adaptation it packed in more than I could hope for.
    While many love the 90s film, I never really warmed to it. Tim Minchin's iteration I think captures more of the original books spirit (and keeps it British) and I highly advise to everyone to check it out.
    Guillermo del toro Pinocchio:
    Always thought the film was overhyped, and I still do. It's good, but just not as good as people say. I felt the songs were a bit forced in. Substituting a nazi youth camp for pleasure island felt a bit much. Also the climax was rushed in my opinion. But I really like the use of stop motion, and David Bradley as Gepetto was fab.
    Avatar 2:
    Yeah it's alright. The high frame rate was distracting. And the third act was way too long, akin to the first film. But I liked it for the most part. The elements that mirrored the first were actually quite interesting, the Colonel now being an avatar is quite an interesting concept and his development mirrors Sully is great. The water culture is fun and makes a lot of sense for this world. And yeah, I do want to see where this story goes, so long as the frame rate is fixed.
    Shazam:
    I'd seen this once before years ago. This time watched with my Dad on New Years Eve. Perfect film for it, it has jokes, action and a lot of family. Don't really have any negatives for it. I like the messages and I like how it really feels part of the DC world, with constant hero references. (just a shame it looks like DC are rebooting everything)
