Nobody seems to consider that if we have even the slightest disturbance to our infrastructure and power stations such as runaway inflation, famine, or war, and the internet and AI will grind to a halt, all that stuff needs power. An event that would send humanity back to the stone age would also bring all that technology to a halt...

There’s non humans here other than animals.
One big assumption regarding the inter-species idea: that the other species has a capacity for LANGUAGE. Example, just because your dog, cat, or whale makes different sounds (even if correlated with, say, food or mating) is FAR from evidence of an ability for language.
And nature is fairly efficient. In other words, it isn’t as if a dog, cat, octopus or whatever would have some hidden language ability. If it was never useful in the evolutionary timeline, it wasn’t genetically passed on. My hunch is: _if they had language, it would be used and apparent_ .
Maybe whales, dolphins, crows, gorillas, elephants, etc. might have some sort of potential. Might.
More likely, it’s just another grift on the AI hype train. Something VERY interesting might arise out of the research, but I doubt it will be some sort of inter-species Babelfish.
Or with the help of AI, we can interpret eye movements, emotions, and not necessarily explore language with other species. Maybe we can understand what guides animals. Maybe they do not have the ability to communicate, but we would have the ability to understand.
@@lrmsmrls16 That's one of the potential outcomes of the research I also considered. A language model AI (or even a general AI) might detect patterns and correlations that a human might miss.
