  • My tool library is growing and I had to make bigger tool holder stand for more tools to come :)
    Its 45deg angle so it needed some extra gripping at the back so the tools won't fall off.
    I guess this will be a making off video with lots of laser cutting.
    my laser 100watt co2 laser tube is giving up after 5 years i think. it did lots and lots of hours of cutting, I already ordered a replacement so i will make a a repair video soonish :)

    I noticed you're sort of haphazard moving tools around and I have to ask. Are you using the tool height table in Mach 3? I've got two small high-speed machines using iso20 tool holders and I have 32 tool racks on the front of each machine cabinet. Every tool goes back in the same slot every time and every slot is numbered. The numbers correspond with the settings in the tool table. since I use both machines in a similar fashion they both have the same tools in the same slots. This way I don't accidentally grab a wrong tool in a hurry when I go from one machine to the other. Tool one is an edge finder, tool two is my chamfer tool etc. I found keeping everything organized and always in the same place every time really helped reduce mistakes and allowed me to use the tool height table in Mach 3 easily.
    I do like your broken or measure section on your board. That's a neat idea.

    • @PiotrFoxWysocki
      @PiotrFoxWysocki  Před 3 lety +1

      I use tool height in mach3. So all the tools are set min fusion and mach3. Since every tool is different i dont need to have descriptions for them. You just see what it is. I might actually engrave a sizes on the tool holder nut. to see the size easly on my drills. Every other tool is easy to identify. In mach 3 and fusion i put tool descriptions what it is so when it comes to tool change mach tells me what tool to put. Example message: "tool 100 - 10mm 3 flute carbide endmill"

    I removed the toolchanger from my gantry mill a long time ago and really don´t miss it. Only once I was thinking about remounting it for a small production run but for prototyping I too see no benefit. I´m really surprised by the size of the facemills. I have got a sk/bt 30 spindle and ran into contact corrosion issues with tools quite a bit smaller than these. Carbide insert wood tools so not sure if it really compares. ...thinking about it the stiffness and dampening quality of your machine might allow you to use tools quite a bit bigger than normal without getting these "micro - chatter" issues. at least that is how I understood contact corrosion occurs.

    • @PiotrFoxWysocki
      @PiotrFoxWysocki  Před 3 lety +1

      i thought contact corrosion happens because of charge difference between of 2 different materials. close enough explanation i think :) i never heard about micro chatter caused corrosion.
      in my understanding corrosion happen when the surface has access to oxidizer.
      i think it happen much quicker if you work with wood. why?
      all the dust gets deep in to the cracks and when there are temperature differences day and night, you get condensation/moisture getting trapped in the wood dust or it keeps cavities from drying out. so rust should appear quicker.
      in case of cnc and metal cutting you use coolant oil with some rust preventing chemicals. so the tools are mostly covered with it. so they don't rust as easily.
      I'm happy to be corrected :D

    When using the laser cutter, why don't you lead into the cut rather than starting the laser IN the cut so that you don't get any burn spots? We do that on everything with a plasma cutter and I know there is a big difference. But it definitely still looks like it would help make PERFECT cuts!
