Why do the Miami Hurricanes play at an NFL Stadium? Because the UM leadership was too damn stupid to invest in an on-campus stadium while the team was competing for national titles. Now it's too late.
No land in or around the campus. Tropical Park would be the best option. Joe Robbie Stadium is on a holiday or Sunday morning 25 to 35 minutes away from the campus. Normally 45 to 60 minutes plus. Traffic is terrible and people don’t want to deal with it anymore. Tropical Park is give or take 2.5 to 4 miles from the campus. Depending on which road you take.
One option for the University of Miami should they decide to move out of Hard Rock in the future is play at Miami Freedom Park the new home of Inter Miami that will be opening up in a few years. The location is perfect in terms of fans getting to games & it's just small enough to where every game will sell out. I am sure Inter Miami would not mind sharing the stadium with the U especially if they realize they can make some extra money from having 6-7 college football games there (in addition to the 18 MLS home regular season matches & matches in Leagues Cup, US Open Cup & the CONCACAF Champions Cup).

Florida State and Florida don't seem to have a problem with crowds. Miami should have stayed at the Orange bowl and just updated it. I don't know how far Hard Rock is from the campus but it reminds of UCLA playing at the Rose Bowl. If you are a college team, you should play on campus, if not you are always on the road. That Ruiz project is simply garbage. If he wants to help the team, build a stadium on campus that fits the culture of the campus.

Perhaps the solution is establishing a larger campus presence near Hard Rock? What if the football program built a campus extension in Miami Gardens? The Football Operations Center could be built at this satellite campus, along with player housing and amenities. This would also provide the main campus will much more usable land for non-football, academic, and housing/leisure space.
There is NO room in campus. Also, the residents of Coral Gables, the municipality where UM is located, would fight it. Finally, UM is Private, whereas University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, etc, are public.
Hard Rock has a capacity of 75,000. The canes could expand Mark Light Field, it would be a great location as it's both on campus and close enough to the rest of the city.

On campus is huge! UCLA has terrible attendance playing at the Rose Bowl 20 miles from campus. Houston had terrible attendance playing at the Astrodome. Built a 40,000 seat stadium on campus and usually comes close to filling it. Ole Miss used to play most of their home games 170 miles away in Jackson and lucky to draw 30,000. Upgraded and enlarged on campus stadium and now draw over 60,000.:I lived on campus and of the 3-4 games in Jackson we would go to one.

A lot of MLB parks have shown capability to host football games. Think: Pinstripe Bowl (Yankee Stadium), Fenway Bowl, Holiday Bowl (Petco), Guaranteed Rate Bowl (Chase Field). Could Marlins Park do it? Sure. Should it? For at least one marquee game per year, absolutely; for the whole season, debatable.
Pitt was stupid to tear down Pitt Stadium and be a tenant of the Steelers. At the time they were on par with Penn State. Now they have been left in the dust ( almost like Temple and the Eagles). When Beaver Stadium gets renovated, Penn State will be even further ahead.

Why? Cause the Marlins ownership duped the city to build a ballpark at Miami's old football stadium site.
