    Thanks for sharing your video. Lovely car!. I had a 280z when I was living in Houston, Texas for a couple of years. It suffered vapour lock allot due to the heat. I upgraded the fan to a double electric one which is easy to fit, made a big difference to the cooling in traffic. However, still had to pop the bonnet when I got home otherwise it took ages to start it again. Mine had a/c and you can retro fit that, needed it in the US but back here perhaps not so critical. I so miss my car, had to sell it when I came back to uk in 2014. Keep posting how you get on with further upgrades.cheers!

    if the engine gets hot sitting in traffic but cools off when driving, you need to swap out the fan clutch, simple as that

      Yeah just because a car is old doesn't mean it will just start overheating easily. If the water pump and radiator, thermostat and fan are all operating correctly you shouldn't have any overheating at all, no matter how old the car is.

    If it's getting hot, you need to see how much crud is in the radiator, make sure your thermostat is good, and see that it's timed correctly. The fact that "it's an old car" is no reason for it to get hot. Your time will be better spent on the cooling problems than refurbishing the wheels. You have some issues that need to be addressed, not make excuses. I'm not trying to be ugly, just pragmatic.

    I'm old enough to remember when these 240/260Zs were in UK showrooms and I have loved them ever since (without ever owning one). On Wheeler Dealers, Edd China solved overheating problems in a Stag by fitting a bigger core radiator and on a TR6 by using a waterless coolant. I have since learned of some problems caused by the latter but a bigger radiator or one with more tubes per row could help sort out the overheating issue. Lovely car and great noise.

    No sure what radiator you are running, but if you don't have a big aluminum radiator I would suggest it. I put one in my 73 240z and it really helped. Now I can sit in traffic for hours with no problems. Mishimoto makes a nice one for our cars that is what I have. I do also have a electric pusher fan, but I don't normally need it.

    Wanted to add that I love that color...probably my favorite color for an old Datsun Z. And also probably the worst color for a car in general there is. That said, nothing I've ever seen wears orange like an S30 does. Watching all the way to the end of the video that motor really purrs too. Congrats on the good work with the engine!

    • @ONEGUYCars
      @ONEGUYCars  Před 8 lety +1

      Thank you very much, you can hear the engine/exhaust note in another video. It is running really well at the moment, just having a temporary problem with fuel vaporisation (I think) in the heat... Yeah I have had the car 4 years now and I can see the paint becoming, um, difficult to maintain. Thanks for the comments and watching though! Check out more if you're interested.

    • @fifteenbyfive

      Yeah not a bad idea actually. Subscribed! :)
      With the heat issues you're having -I doubt you've neglected it- but are you sure your thermostat is opening all the way?
      Wouldn't stress at all on the paint though...all the Zs all over CZcams and the like have their blemishes, it's a badge of character more than a reason to worry, even the restored ones have their imperfections too if one looks carefully enough. Yours doesn't look like rust is any real issue at all so that should be comforting. I've got a few (plus a few more) bubbles under the paint too. Mine was lucky enough to be undercoated by the dealer when new which has made a huge difference over its lifetime.

    It looks like it's in great shape to be honest. That rust on the fender is nothing to be too worried about. There is a frame behind the fender there and the metal has a couple of folds where moisture gets trapped causing it to rust. The fenders are relatively easy to repair, it's most of the other spots you have to worry about.
    Not sure why it gets so hot in the UK, I have a 240z in Australia and it never overheats. I do have the later fluted bonnet (which aesthetically I hate the look of) and will change for an earlier solid version at some point, but for cooling you should make sure it has the undertray that goes under the radiator and do you still have the mechanical clutch fan?
    Also make sure you have a heat shield between the carbs and the intake manifold to prevent vapour lock.

    • @ONEGUYCars
      @ONEGUYCars  Před 8 lety

      Thanks so much! Really appreciate the help and your comments. The cari tself isn't in too bad condition, but i'd still class it as a 'project'. Lots of plans to improve it anyway, and it's nice to hear you don't think the rust is too much of a problem.
      I think putting the heat shield under the carbs/above the manifold will really help with the potential fuel vaporization... will film this and let you know how i get on

    I was pondering going to three Weber carbs on my 2.8. But my Datsun guy assured me that that would be a waste of money ($1000) unless I also increased to 3.1 litres and replaced the cam and did some head work to make those carbs breathe. Plus he recommended a better clutch to handle the now 280 HP. The stronger rear end was also a good idea. I run the Hitachis still.

    I want to get one so badly, mainly because I think the car is beautiful and I see tons of videos turning them into drift missiles or something similar and that looks so sad. However, I'm not very mechanically inclined, so I know if i owned it right now I would be spending tons in parts and labor. I live in the US and see many available for decent prices and I just know they are going up, if not already. I don't want to wait until they are worth over 30 grand when I can find good ones with no rust around 10k.
    Your car is amazing though, I also wouldn't mind the little imperfections if I had one of my own. I love the black interior in your car, the only thing better if the dark brown leather I have seen in a few cars. I can't believe you had it for 4 (almost 5 now) years. It really does give me some hope that I can daily this car in the future.

Even in the US people act like they don't know what it is or like they've never seen one before. It seems like there's a lot of them in Australia these days with the red hot JDM market for them you guys seem to have a good pipeline from Japan.
