    Just bought a mint 2008 Speed Triple, bone stock with 4200 miles. It absolutely rides and handles like new. I’ve always loved the dual-headlight big eye look of the older Speed Triples. I love it! I’ve never understood why people modify these bikes for street riding. Like the guys at Triumph don’t know what they’re doing? Anyway, good luck with this one!

    I'm looking at getting a 2007 speed triple 1050. It'll be my first street bike I've owned myself, but I've rode a couple of cruisers and a Honda CBR 600 for a while. I grew up riding dirt bikes so I think it'll be fine for me, just wondering if there is anything I should watch out for? Bike has about 8k miles on it.

    • @SGMoto
      @SGMoto  Před 3 lety +2

      They are prone to charging system issues. Typically the regulator/rectifier, but they have been known to have stator issues as well. 8k miles is pretty fresh, that seems like a good find, but you may not be out of the woods with the charging system. Ask the PO as well as search around the stator cover for possible RTV to see if it’s been replaced.
      Other than that, nothing I am aware of. These aren’t like a cruiser or dirt bike, be careful!

    Is it true the 2009 Speeds are lees prone to stator & other issues?

    • @SGMoto
      @SGMoto  Před 2 lety

      Look, Jeremy, I just make stupid videos on the internet. I don’t know. I would venture to believe that they’re just as prone as any other model in the same family though.
      However, I can give you an SG Moto guarantee that you won’t be able to take the smile off your face… until you’re elbow deep replacing the stator! They are great bikes though!

    I’ve owned two speed trips and one sprint. Mean bikes with lots of grunt. Replaced 4 rectifiers. It’s a common fault. 😐

    Would be good to include your milage per year, milage when bought, any noticable dips/ losses in power and unexpected/ expected costs. I.e I had to replace the clutch or 3rd gear went on me. Whilst enjoyable I didn't take much away.

    The Chinese mirrors I have look and work great, nothing wrong with them at all. Why Triumph and made their factory mirrors so that you have a commanding view of your elbows is beyond me. That is not what the mirrors are supposed to be for, I should be seeing the road behind me like I do with the aftermarket ones that I put on.

    • @SGMoto
      @SGMoto  Před 2 lety

      Sounds like you found a nice pair. The bike still has the Chinese bar ends on it, I just deal with it. CRG makes a killer set of bar ends if you like to spend money!

  • @nathanchiaro5399
    @nathanchiaro5399 Před 3 lety

    I like the bar end mirrors. Oh and by the way, Triumph made bar end mirrors also. So I guess according to you the engineers at Triumph don’t know what they’re doing either🙄
    No subscribe for you! Come back one year!!

    • @SGMoto
      @SGMoto  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, Triumph made bar end mirrors. They are much nicer than Chinese flat mirrors that don’t show traffic or lanes next to you. CRG makes great bar end mirrors. I specifically commented on people changing out OEM mirrors for poorly made Chinese mirrors.
      Go away one year!
