    Both of these softboxes are incredible and i'm so glad I got to test them side-by-side.
    I test the features of the softboxes as well as the quality of light that each of these products produce.

    I am an amateur photographer who uses Neewer products a lot and I am more than satisfied with the build quality and price. With anything, if you take care of it, it will last. The minuscule amount of of difference in light quality is negligible. Here is a little news item for you. Only another photographer will notice the shape of the catch light in a subjects eye. If I do take a paying job (I charge a lot because frankly I don't want to bother) the thing people want is a soft flattering light to make them look good. Neewer makes a series of lighting products that fits my needs perfectly. For some one starting out as a professional photographer I believe that they are more than adequate. My go to light modifier is the 32 inch instant square soft box with a grid for key light and a white reflector for the fill. No fuss, no muss and light weight to carry if need be.

    Before the test comparison came up, you did mention that the Neewer seemed to have a blue cast to the light. Which may be accurate, because I did see a slightly cooler image with the Neewer footage. For me, I'd still go with Aputure because of the sturdier carrying case, the all metal mount, and the inclusion of the honeycomb attachment. Great comparison work.

      @@SamHolland I did try the Neewer. I'm super new at this and I don't want to spend a great deal but I want decent quality! I used to use a ring light and it's sooo hard to get what you want because the light spills all room. Would you use a reflectors or a ring light as a full light with the Neewer?

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  Před 4 lety +2

      The softbox probably won’t attach to the ring light but if you want to soften up your ring light then you could drape some material over the top AND you could stop light spilling into the sides by putting some card or board next to the light and that would stop light from leaking. Hope these tips help 🙏🏻🤩🎥

    Love it, video quality looked unreal, perfect lighting setup or have you nailed your grading? From what I have seen people tend to go for the Aputure products due to convenience, easy to pack away and constant quality. Neewer is a fantastic budget brand, but not all of their products are consistent so always a little difficult to tell what you'll get!
    Also love the back drop, any good recommendations? Seems to be loads of different places to get seamless photopaper online so not sure which will be ideal

It's literally falling apart after maybe 2 dozen opens and closes, where my old Chimera stuff was purchased already well-used and will last forever... Even though this new gel holder concept feels a bit gimmicky (especiall for stills) and suspect it looses a lot of light, who knows. Shame you didn't get a chance to cover the gel holder and hoping you will in another video.

    The included grid and gel holder for the Aputure lights are great features. I have both the large and mini Aputure Lightdomes, and find the large one can be difficult when shooting in small spaces. The large version is better in every way, but if you shoot in small spaces I recommend the small version. Do NOT buy the old style Aputure Lightdomes, as they are a major pain to assemble. The new versions are a good value.

      Hey Louis. 🙏🏻🇨🇦 I certainly do. However, I just upgraded to the Godox SL150ii and that’s got silent fan mode and also kicks out more light. I did a video on that one too. It’s worth checking out and let me know what you think. 🙏🏻🎥

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  Před 4 lety

      Personally I prefer the lightdome 2. When I saw the mini I was going to swap to just that because it’s so small and compact. So I used it for a bit but then swapped back to the big one and it makes such a difference. It seems like a huge price difference but strangely worth it. The aputure is better build quality that the Neewer. I could see that breaking after a while since it’s plastic. But if you only have a small room it could be over kill. The mini would still be great. 😂 sorry if that doesn’t help. Get both! 😂🎥

    Hmm would you recommend use an umbrella or softbox for single key light lighting?

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  Před 3 lety +2

      I prefer softbox as it blocks out light from the back. The umbrella will spread more light behind the light and that could bounce back onto your frame depending on the environment. But it all depends what look you’re going for. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥

    • @ScottyInVancouver
      @ScottyInVancouver Před 3 lety +1

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  Před 3 lety +1

      If you’re in a small room, you might get some of the light bouncing off the back wall onto your face and you may not want that for example if you want something darker sometimes. The bigger boxes will produce a softer light but in my recent videos I’m using the mini with the extra diffusion and bringing it closer and i like it. 🤩🙏🏻🎥
