  • In this episode of FLY TV, we get to follow Niklaus Bauer and Niklas Holmér when they are fly fishing for enormous coalfish on the island Røst in Norway. This island is very remote, has a stunning landscape and is one of the best places in the world for big coalfish.
The coolest thing about the coalfish is that it's a very good fighter, and since they will target it will fly rods, they going to experience a world class fishing. Learn how to search them, what fly to use, what gear is recommended and how to catch them.

Fly tv does it again. More exotic species for the fly rod. Fly fishing has come a long way from trout and salmon. Excellent video.

I can't give you any advice for Norway but we've massive glasán ( coalfish) and many other good fighting fish in the waters around Ireland. Norway and Ireland have very similar species
They can be caught year round

@@kryspinwoszczyk3587 Well the main one I know is the Helm tour guide based in Westport. It does a charter through and out of Clew Bay in Mayo. Some of the best Glasán fishing in the world. We used to fill the aul fashioned bath with them and you'd fit 5 in a bath. The baths were between 5 and 6 foot long and the fishes head and tail would be hanging over the side. Biggest I've seen was 7 and a half foot long

Well they can be caugt all year round but probably on a day where mackerel would be close to the surface would be your best day to get a big glasáin. Coalfish put up a good fight too and can get over 15kg, some up to 32kg

@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 Thanks for the info. I think the confusion may be due to the fact that at market here in the US pollack is a loose term to describe white fish. Kind of the same with Sol.

@@Raevenswood No bother here in Ireland there's specific names for all fish and they aren't really all put under one name. Coalfish in Ireland gets massive so we love fishing for them. But did you know in most chippers that sell fish and chips, that fish is pollack, whiting, ling or conger eel. Its not cod at all
