- In this episode of FLY TV, we get to follow Niklaus Bauer and Niklas Holmér when they are fly fishing for enormous coalfish on the island Røst in Norway. This island is very remote, has a stunning landscape and is one of the best places in the world for big coalfish.
The coolest thing about the coalfish is that it's a very good fighter, and since they will target it will fly rods, they going to experience a world class fishing. Learn how to search them, what fly to use, what gear is recommended and how to catch them.

Fly tv does it again. More exotic species for the fly rod. Fly fishing has come a long way from trout and salmon. Excellent video.
Now you just need to get Halibut on the fly :)
Wow! This is the coolest episode i've seen in a while!! Great work! Absolutely love it
Absolutely stunning location, great fishing, great tips! Thank you!
Outstanding guys! On surface poppers too, I feel the burn ;) ATB.

det må va den bästa filmen ni någonsin har gjort. skit coolt att se flugfiske efter sej eller nu vad man kan få på fluga när man är ute så där på havet. bra jobbat!!! :)

Great too see the guys catch some nice Coal on My poppers :)
Vilket fiskeäventyr, helt underbart ...
This video is bloody deadly 👍 this is the 5th or so time watching it. Possibly my favourite CZcams fishing video ever. I wish I could find coalies feed topwater in Ireland, not really heard of I think.
Wow that's pretty cool on the fly rod for a cold water fish 👍👍
great stuff!
This is unreal!
awsome
Amazing!!!!
Great video guy's 👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent 👍
Class
We have loads of big glasán /coalfish here in Ireland too. Very popular fish to catch. Big ones 15-30kg can be found all up and down the West Coast. Very popular food fish in Mayo
30kg Coalfish?
@@joelpasley9995 Oh ya. They'd mostly be caught deep by nets. But sometimes you'll get them on the rod. Fucking insane experience
Underbart
Sjukaste jag sett
Hey great video guys. What kind of boat is that exactly?
Hej Niklaus & Niklas what an incredible way of catching those big fishes, looks and sounds really fun, well done, images and fishes are 🔥🔥 could you please share about the material you are using , rod and reel ? Thanks
Törkeän hienoa pätkää kyllä!

What did you sei Sir :) Good content.
If only the Cobia in America were that easy to get on the fly
What knot was it where you said you loop it round 3 times to finish it?
What's the name of that knot you used and described in the video (the one that makes a loop in front of the fly)? First time seeing it and looks pretty easy to do.
rapala knot
oh my gorch !!!! :-)
Vad är namnet på låten vid 13:35? :o
anyone know the name of the song at 5:30
Like a cold water cobia
Hi can you guys recommend any guides in that area and optimal time of year to head over. Thanks in advance
I can't give you any advice for Norway but we've massive glasán ( coalfish) and many other good fighting fish in the waters around Ireland. Norway and Ireland have very similar species
They can be caught year round
Hi. Any success in looking for a guide? Also interested ;)
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 could you recommend some in Ireland?
@@kryspinwoszczyk3587 Well the main one I know is the Helm tour guide based in Westport. It does a charter through and out of Clew Bay in Mayo. Some of the best Glasán fishing in the world. We used to fill the aul fashioned bath with them and you'd fit 5 in a bath. The baths were between 5 and 6 foot long and the fishes head and tail would be hanging over the side. Biggest I've seen was 7 and a half foot long
Great. What months you recommend? To try
Well Glasán / Coalfish can be caught all year round
What is the best month for big Coalfish?
Well they can be caugt all year round but probably on a day where mackerel would be close to the surface would be your best day to get a big glasáin. Coalfish put up a good fight too and can get over 15kg, some up to 32kg
what is the name of the music on 0:37?
God will Cut You Down - Robin Loxley
What's coalfish ? It looks like cod. but I never heard they caught on fly rod
known to us as Pollock
It's a relative of the cod, pollack, ling etc. But is a different species. Common in cold waters from Ireland to Norway
@@Raevenswood Coalfish and pollack are 2 very different species. The don't even look the same
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 Thanks for the info. I think the confusion may be due to the fact that at market here in the US pollack is a loose term to describe white fish. Kind of the same with Sol.
@@Raevenswood No bother here in Ireland there's specific names for all fish and they aren't really all put under one name. Coalfish in Ireland gets massive so we love fishing for them. But did you know in most chippers that sell fish and chips, that fish is pollack, whiting, ling or conger eel. Its not cod at all
