Great video guys and filmed in a beautiful part of the lakes. I was there last year on my 701 supermoto and fully agree that the engine is brilliant for those roads. Loads of punch and its all in the right place! 👌

The recipe is simple and effective... Less weight and a powerful, frugal, single cylinder engine with 1 powerful disc brake up front = better performance. It's the "Lotus" of motorcycles.

Saw someone pull up with this bike during the summer at our local camping outfitter. Then saw him and his GF picking stuff up for a camping trip, and discussing putting it on that bike. I was like - fuck yeah! Reminds me of when I used to do camping trips on my RC51.

I'm a long time late commenting, but you made me laugh. FortNine did a review of the 701 & said the seat looked bad, but was bearable - but the main purpose of the passenger seat was birth control.
      Sounds like you might agree...

Excellent review - so good I've watched it several times! I had a Nuda a few years ago and then an MT09 and Duke 790 but looking for less weight and more fun so looks like this is the one for me. And that seat sounds like it's a plank just like my trusty old Multi which most complain about but seems to suit my skinny arse well!

I'm sitting here wondering how it would be with a normal 17" wheel ff the Vitpilan. I see no need for the bigger front wheel and would like the stance better and slight increase in maneuverability. My local dealer has one for $8000 US dollars but I have a KTM SMC 690R and its kinda the same bike--on stilts--except without the massive style--and WAY more $$. great engine for just riding and smiling.

That's waht I am worried about. I am 1;87 and the bike looks so small. Short, as well as just "weak" compared to other nakeds. For me also the 690 Duke looks small but I saw it in real life once and it didn't look that tiny at all. What would you say ? Can a tall guy fit on it without looking too big for it ? Cause I think the comfort isn't the big problem.

Great video! I stumbled on to this video because I have been thinking about taking a look at this bike. What are your thoughts on this? A 2020 Svartpilen 701 with 2,100 miles on it for 9,999. It has heated grips and comes with tank and side bags. This seems like a lot to me what are your thoughts? Also, is this an every day bike to you and if you wanted to do about a 100 miles in a day on it do you think it is comfortable enough. I did not hear your thoughts on the highway does it feel like it would struggle to keep up. For the record I am in the U.S. so that might help with your thoughts on pricing etc Did they discontinue this bike? I do not see any 2022 at the website? Thanks

Hi Joshua, I think the 401 would be a great choice for you, still powerful, but not as snappy as the 701... The 701 has got a real kick to it, much faster than a comparative er6 for example. I think I'd personally prefer the Vitpilen, especially since it's a naked bike with clipons (which is one of the sexiest looks a bike can have, have a look at Speed Triples and MT's with clipon conversions). But then I can't say much, I've still got another few months until I can do my A2. The side panel behind the right pillion peg ruins the look a bit for me, if either both sides had it or neither sides had it, it'd look a lot better. By the way, with the Lake District, I'd love to take a trip over there, what roads would you recommend riding?

I think some of it might come down to looks too, that is up to you though. But both bikes handle really well, have great engines, great brakes and components. Hi Everyone, can anyone suggest to me if the 701 is considered good as a beginner bike? I ask, because I was thinking about buying the 401 Svartpilen as my beginner Bike, but how different can the 701 be from a Ducati 800 scrambler, Yamaha MT07, or a Kawasaki 650? Should I just go straight for the 701 Svartpilen, or get the 401 Svartpilen? Any help from anyone?

    • @KnoxArmour

Thanks, yes I would consider the 701 a great first "big bike". Just have to be a bit careful with it as the engine has a lot of snap, probably faster than all the other examples you gave due to weight and power delivery. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

You should definitely ride this back to back with the sv650, (you might prefer the 650 cafe racer version)if you like fun mid capacity bikes. I had a 2004 tuono for years and sports bikes before it, fancied a change and after selling it a local dealer had a 03 sv650n, I had no intention of buying one but took it for a spin and loved it, I live in Ireland so with the type of roads we have I can have much more fun on the 650. The new sv would not be as premium a finish as the husky but if you haven't tried one, and you enjoyed the husky, you definitely should, especially considering the price compared to the husky.

Not on a track day, not on a commute not even while doing hooligan 5h!+. Admittedly shifting is not like a Japanese or German bike, there’s no snick snick feel with each shift.
