Doggie's Birthday • Honky Tonk Sweethearts, Germany 2013

Gaby's Birthday party in her parent's basement - some of her Elvis and Shakin' Stevens pix are on the wall, December 7, 2013. Our pal Dieter Wegener playing solid body electric dobro has since passed away. He played a gig with us prior to that at the Lindener Hof opening for Texas Roads. Written in 1997 when Gaby first visited me, she was told when she called home that they were taking their dog Nikki to the mountains because it was her birthday. More verses were written after we got Toto in 2010. The lyrics have evolved since, the verse about the County Fair is now the middle verse, and has its own chorus: "Today is doggie's picnic, we know just what to do. We'll bring along some dog treats and let our doggie chew what doggie's chew." I intend to make an official studio version and another video for it.
