Uh, and here's the really crazy thing. He does this the day after his grandmother died. He was grieving and his family was gathered back home watching the game, and he does this. As I said elsewhere, Marchand does not quit - even in the face of sorrow. I feel for him and his family. God rest the soul of Francis Leary and comfort all who loved her

Kinda liked the thing Marchand did to be all alone in the OT. He saw the opportunity to lay the hit on Nylander and took it. And as he sees the puck going the other way, he almost immediately gives Nylander another budge to keep him down a bit longer as he skates to the front. Small details of his game that'll piss off the opponents and cheat a little without taking the penalty.

Nylander fell on his own. Marchy never touched him. He lost the edge of his skate. Brad basically ended up tripping on him.

I don't know if I love or hate Marchand.
On the one hand, he's so dirty, and he's a good enough player that he really doesn't have to be. Just incredibly scummy behavior.
On the other hand, he's so dirty, and that makes him incredibly entertaining. He's like the villain of the week in a TV show.
My take is since the start of last years playoffs where March was temp captain for a bit, he's kind of cleaned up his act. Really stepped in to being a leader more.
I don't even think that hit on Liljegren was intentional, I think they just got twisted up and shit happened. That being said, March is still hockey player. Chirping is part of that and March just also happens to be exceptionally good at it.
I'm not denying his history, just that he's a different player now. But even Bertuzzi said in an interview that March is full of shit. The stuff he does on the ice doesn't reflect who he actually is.

The Leafs are just one of a handful of good teams in the NHL right now. But they aren't a championship team, they just don't have that kind of team, especially the blue line and goaltending. Matthews is the modern version of Roenick. He is a great player but not the kind of player who you win championships with.

Brad never stops. He has more fight than twenty other people combined and that's something that can never be taught. It's just who he is. And then the next night, he goes on to have a night of AWESOME! PURE FREAKING AWESOME!
Hockey's a tough game, the Leaf's have to respond to it, not whine about it. Every team hates Marchand but Boston, but I think we'd give our right arm to have him on our side. Marchand plays like another agitator who has a trophy named after him, a fellow named Ted Lindsay, Lindsay was a violent player, dirty, and extremely talented, one of the best left wingers to play the game. Marchand loves to be hated, he lives rent free in Leafs' fans heads. Undeniably, he is talented, he works, he's relentless, and good on both ends. We as Leafs' fans gotta stop crying about it, and try to drive our own stars to that desire.

Game 7 of 2019 final man goddamn too bad bruins didn't win that game so it could be 2 cups for marchand and he prolly would've been the conn smythe winner as well if the bruins had won game 7!! Plus, unlike 2011 where it was on the road, 2019 was their chance to win it at home. Lotta leaf fans would've been crying their ass's off if they won game 7 instead of St. Louis which would've been great to see given how soft and spoiled leaf fans are. I definitely had him as the playoff mvp for the bruins given he was the leading point scorer on the team and made everyone else on the team play their hearts out as well. Imagine if he wasn't around whether it was 2011, 2013 0r 2019. Literally the heartbeat of the team. People only hate him cause they don't have him on their team and deep down would kill to have him on their team

Everyone knew when Nylander tripped over an imaginary banana peel the game was over. 2 weeks ago everyone was saying he should be the highest paid winger in the league and now he's back to floating in his own end and not getting back on defense. If the Leafs pay him $10M per they are nuts. That kind of money is reserved for players who play in both ends of the rink and Nylander isn't that guy.

The main problem I have with Marchand is that he has a long history of throwing dirty hits. So I hate him (as a player anyway; I'm sure off the ice he's not actually a terrible person) for the same reason that I hate guys like Ulf Samuelsson.
Being an agitator is fine, and if you’re talented it’s difficult to defend against. Marchand is a dangerous player because he has little regard for player safety. There are entire compilations of Marchand slewfooting players. He’s very lucky he hasn’t ended someone’s career. That he’s the Captain of an Original Six franchise is shameful.
