No, it actually doesn't, but a lot of people think it does. For instance, if you go to China, Japan, India , or Africa and tell them that they should have more "diversity", they might give the same answer. They might say, we have thousands of years of History and tradition, and would like our children to look as we do. Now, if you were to ask 100 various Americans, no one would see these nations as "hateful" , "Racist" or even "Prejudiced". But choose ANY white nation, no matter how different they are from each other, and ANY white nation, uttering those identical words would ALL be seen as "Hateful". Have you ever asked yourself why this is ? maybe what you have been told to see as "Prejudice" is actually "Preference" and you've been lied to. Just something to step back, look at, and consider...
What I have learned is that people have hidden hatreds and can be cordial to save face. I am always surprised, especially in the work place.
You are right valois. They laugh and grin in your face. John used to say his Mom may not be the one wearing the white sheet but she maybe the one that lights the cross on the lawn. I get what you meant by how people look at John and would not expect him to be married to a black woman. I had a former co-worker who was a much older white woman and she's telling stories about her husband and her and I always thought the husband was white until one day he visited and he was a black man. Surprised the hell out me because I have never seen an older interracial couple before.

I can tell you and your husband love each other and if I can clearly see that, I know those ppl can that in our relationship as well. The interesting thing about racism & prejudice (especially when going out together) that gets me the most, is that you can’t always anticipate it. Ex:being in the grocery store shopping minding your business with your husband & having a good day & someone says “ are you together?” Like why? Why do you care? & then you’re the jerk if you call them out. I also don’t enjoy the unnecessary scrutiny (from both sides) for literally just loving another HUMAN who is lighter than me. They think we are the “ weirdos” for not allowing race to divide us, but really they ARE. My husband and I believe in the Lord, so we believe that we are created equally & in his image like he says. I am focusing on choosing joy & thankful fo your honesty and perspective. Please keep making videos.Sorry for the scroll 😊

I would be in a fight every day if I allowed everything that I have overheard to affect me. I definitely pick and choose my battles, but life is too short to allow all that negativity to take me over. Please don't let others get to you and enjoy the life that you have made. So much of this story resonates with my own experiences, including the ones in the workplace. I was well aware of what people would say behind my back but I just went about my business. One colleague even called me passive-aggressive, probably because no one could get a rise out of me. But I knew my Rights and knew when to claim them when it was important enough.

The one I always liked was "angry black woman" because they didn't like me speaking up for myself and knowing my rights.
as I've gotten older things like race just don't matter to me anymore. I remember when I was in school I was one of the dumb racist that used the N word a few times against a few boys. I grew up hearing it from my grandmother and grandfather. later in life I've realized we're all Humans and just want to make it through the day and find happiness in life. we're only here for a very short time enjoy it. I wish I could go back and apologies to the people I've hurt by using that word. when my Twin Sister first started to date a black man I wasn't happy about it. . once I got to take the time to know him he was just like me really.. different skin color but just wanted to make it through the day and be left alone for the most part. I've always wanted to start a youtube channel Get-To-Know-ME and just allow people to record short videos and just tell a little about themselves so we can see the vast differences in maybe skin color but life styles are similar and we all just want to be happy and find love in life. we all have dreams at some point. so why not share with the world you guys are awesome!. it starts with parents... I'm taking the time to explain to my 2 kids why it's important to not be a racist and treat everyone as a human being. things I was never told growing up. I want my kids to learn from my mistakes. so it starts with parents
Charles thank you for this comment. One of the reasons we decided to do a channel was to share our life experiences and to show the differences as well as the similarities. We think that if people would just realize that we are all human and are just trying to survive and find love and in this we can find a common ground to share even if we are of a different ethnicity. I always tell John, if you do not know something do not be afraid to ask, we can all learn from each other and if we do not understand we can at least empathize. I also say if you were raised a certain way with hatred, be strong enough to break the cycle. The first step is acknowledging that there is a problem and then move on from there. It takes a big person to realize what they did in the past was wrong and they are willing to make up for that in the future. Peace and Love to you and we appreciate you watching.

I just found your channel and really enjoyed your blog. I just want to say that when it comes to John speaking on the story about the woman telling a racially insensitive joke, first of all, kudos to your him for speaking against her racially insensitive joke because I've heard stories where a black person who looks racially ambiguous who has been in situations where they have been around a group of white people at work or a social gathering and someone will make disparaging or derogatory comments about black people not realizing that there was one amongst them in the group and to know that john called that woman out on it was everything!!!!👍🏼 That speaks to his character! But I will say this, it seems that with most IR couples, IN SOME CASES, the white partner never fully realizes or see the prejudice in society that black people endure, it's not until they are involved with or in a relationship with a black person that they will begin to see the disparity and become more aware of it.🤷🏽♀️

I wish I could speak to you two a little more about this subject. I just started dating again and there are more white men coming my way. I started talking to one of them that I felt like would be more of a casual thing, but he kept insuating wanting more out of the relationship. The problem with this guy is that he is Trump supporter and he says things of a racial nature that he doesn't think twice about. I just think that he wouldn't be protective of me in public and that he's connected to people that has issues with race. He posts things on FB that are just not too correct in my view. He says he didnt grow up around black people, but some things just seem to be common sense to me. I ended up limiting my communication with him, because he just doesn't get it. I can see that your husband gets it.

I kept avoiding this feed but then, I said if it comes up again? I'm going to watch you two. Your experiences with his mother, had me closing my eyes, seeing myself grimacing through her ignorant comments. His father was cool with me but, we used to sit outside and drink (LoL). One of his uncles said: "welcome to the family" and walked away laughing. We are BOTH from the Northeast, he's from Massachusetts and I'm from Connecticut. We met while stationed in Georgia so, of course his folks ASSUMED I'm from the south?well, actually I am .....only it's Southern Connecticut 😂. We've been married for 37+yrs, 3 daughters, 4-soon-to-be-5 grandsons. Happy life you kooky kids 🙂
