I love this trailer, but I'm getting fairly annoyed at all the "___ and ___'s love child" and "calling it now, ______ is the nagito" comments. I know that comparisons are a valuable tool, especially for fanganronpas, but it always feels like those sort of comments disregard any kind of complexity the character could have and place them in a neat little box before we even know anything about them.

It really is irritating/frustrating when people stereotype a character straight off the bat and disregard the characters own unique complexity. But, I guess people will always have there own opinions formulated in their own way.
Honestly I agree with what you're saying. However, I personally do it to easily identify a character or predict how they'll be in the game. As long as it doesn't take over their entire possible story or characterization, I think it's okay.

theory: the ultimate gamer wanted to set up the ultimate life or death game to test the skills of herself and select individuals, but to make it a more difficult experience, she erased her memories of creating the game.

part 2 of analyzing the personality and death order of the students:
Mark "Mayhem" Berskii/ Ult. Music Producer (Alligator) : The fan favourite pick for the best character and also one of the characters I have very little to say about due to how little there is to dissect. His description states he's very quiet which is accurate considering how most of the time we only ever see an alligator pop out from under the water to make an attack on their prey. As in terms of animal motif, Alligators symbolize individuality, protection, strength and wisdom which checks out as Mayhem prefers to stay out of the spotlight as well as him taking a liking to philosophy and assuming they're both alive for a long enough period of time, I can totally see him taking a liking to Ulysses due to being oddly similar. As for whether he'll die or not, I'm almost certain he will but unlike the other people who I've said will die, I have no clue when Mayhem will.
Diana Venicia/ Ult. Cosmetologist (Chameleon): I'm just going to get right to the point on this one and say that this is who I believe is going to be the mastermind. People have pointed out the Hope's Peak emblem on the left side of her breast which is just another piece of evidence supporting this claim, but I also think that the fact that her animal motif is a chameleon, an animal that is infamous for blending in, just like the mastermind blending in with the rest of the students. Also I'm not sure if this is significant or not but her last is very similar to Venezia, which is the Italian word for Venice in Italy; not sure if has any relevance but I thought I should point it out... just in case. As for what she'll be like before she's revealed as the mastermind, she seems to be very friendly and outgoing but I think she won't get along with Toshiko or Kai considering how she dislikes drama.
Wolfgang Akire/ Ult. Lawyer (Sheep): Just like Diana, I'm going to get straight to the point and say that he's going to be the main antagonist considering how his name in combination with his animal motif is 1. a possible reference to the saying "A wolf in sheep's clothing" and 2. an oxymoron which is one of Damon's dislikes. It also states that one of his dislikes is lies and considering how I mentioned that Eva will very likely be Damon's 2nd in command, it wouldn't surprise me if there was plenty of discourse between him and them. Additionally, since it says that he wants "facts and logic" in his discussion, it wouldn't surprise me if Anime Ben Shapiro has a certain level of stubbornness to him, or if he's the trial disruptor ("Even if it times it becomes counterproductive in the trials he participates in"). As for his survivability, I'm 95% positive that he's going to be the Chapter 5 victim.
Kai Monteago/ Ult. Influencer (Butterfly): Self-centered, manipulative and petty are all words I can think of to describe Kai. This guy will be a major headache no matter how little screen time he gets. He's going to cause so much discourse and cynicism in his actions but that in and of itself may unite everyone against him but imo, especially Diana and Wenona. And his animal motif seems to suggest that we'll be seeing him a lot since he's most likely a "Social Butterfly" and dislikes apologies; on top of that, he's likely very insecure with himself considering that he enjoys thrifting and will likely talk about how much he makes and has as well as his fans who may be exaggerated. However, as I mentioned earlier, I don't think he'll be the main antagonist and that also links back to his animal motif. On top of the butterfly symbolizing his outgoing nature, it has the added effect of referencing something called "The Butterfly Effect" in which to say small, insignificant actions will have a huge impact later on; which is why I believe that if he isn't the Chapter 1 killer (which I believe he will be), he will manipulate someone into doing so.
Jett Dawson/ Ult. Drag Racer (Coyote) : Ah yes, the chubby male character with no face. In all seriousness though, I wholeheartedly believe that he's going to be a fan favourite. perhaps one of the more complex characters as he seems to be the life of the party on the front but his injury in and of itself is likely a root source of insecurity for him and is the reason why he wears a mask and dislikes showers. As for his animal motif, the coyote, it says that while he may be frustrating to deal with, you will be grateful for the lessons he taught you. It symbolizes playfulness, adaptability, seeing the truth in things, a complex and cunning personality, wisdom and cleverness. With all these things going for him, I believe that he will either die in chapter 4, more than likely as a killer, or be a survivor.
Ingrid Grimwall// Ult. Blacksmith (Lion) : Here we have whom I believe to be the mother of the group. The last line in the title of her character description reads "Stand not in her way, for she will defend those who cannot." So she will not only be very protective of the group, but she will very well be sure to stand up for her friends if the opportunity ever presents itself to do so as she was shown to be standing up to the unnamed headmasters alongside both Jett and Jean. I can also see her getting being friends with Ulysses due to her liking renaissance fairs and therefore having a sort of common ground. As for her animal motif, The Lion represents Strength, courage, justice and majesty and as an extension, the lioness symbolizes creativity, intuition, imagination and intelligence which I think suits someone better being described as "Patient and attentive to detail." in her character description; and while the team said they'd be trying to pull away from the usual DR tropes (Again, good on them for that) I can't think of any other time she'll die than as a sacrifice in Chapter 4.
Grace Madison/ Ult. Golfer (Bunny) : This was my other, more likely pick for the "Major Character Development" Character, and here's why. Her character description states that in a similar fashion to Wenona, she isn't focused on relationships and decides to put her career over them, even at the cost of burning her bridges to make it to the top. However, rabbits are prey animals and "Remind us of our vulnerability and push us to find the strength in ourselves." Perhaps she believes herself to be weak and compensates for this by burning her bridges and trash talk, which is one of her likes. On top of this, rabbits are very social creatures but it takes time for them to trust others, so perhaps this will be her opportunity to open up to someone, and finally trust them rather than just letting it go to waste. As for when she does develop, the positive traits are rabbit symbolize are prosperity, good luck, intuition and wittiness. Assuming that I'm correct, she absolutely will survive and I'll be justified in keeping my eye on her.
Jean Delamer/ Ult. Ship Captain (Dragon) : Besides being the character who has a birthday closest to mine (Only 2 days), Jean will definitely play the role of a leader in the game as we see him facing off against the headmaster alongside both Ingrid and Jett as well as his character description saying things like "being no stranger to coordination and cooperation" "Protective of his crew, he wants to make sure everyone under his guidance and direction are doing their best work to to make sure his ship runs smoothly" on top of one of his likes being group projects. He also seems to be the type of leader who, while he will make sure everyone is under his care, he won't try and strong arm them if they refuse to be cooperative with him. In terms of his animal motif, this was simultaneously the easiest and hardest to find info on since both reasonings off it being is that Jean's animal is the only one that is fictional. Dragons symbolize evil in certain traditions but I'm not convinced considering his character description and the trailer; since dragons also symbolize power, strength and wisdom but also chaos, which makes sense since you never know where your sails will take you. All that said, I'm placing my money on him sadly dying.
Cassidy Amber/ Ult. Pro Gamer (Spider) : Whew! Last stretch; this took me 2 full days to type and look for animal symbolism but now isn't the time for that. Cassidy is also putting herself as another one of my favourite characters and that in part is due to her chaotic energy and rebellious nature. Since it states that she dislikes authority, she may be a little bit antagonistic to people like Jean and Ingrid but unlike the other shit disturbers in the game such as Kai and Wolfgang, I think that she will not only be polite about it but also be proactive and try to find some sort of solution to the game in the free time or have a flash of genius in the trials. Due to how she likes revolutions and dislikes authority and cheaters, if one of the students decides to go on a power trip and make all the decisions for everyone else (I.e Angie in V3 or Teruya in SDRA2) she'll most likely spearhead trying to lead them to try and overtake the authoritarian leader as well as giving the mastermind/ headmaster a little food for thought. For her animal motif, Spiders are the ultimate symbol of creativity, so she may go off on her own to discover something no other student will; they also symbolize mystery and growth, leading me to believe she'll have some subtle character development With all this out of the way, she's the last of the students I'm willing to put my money on living but as of now, I'm leaning towards her dying.
I know I already answered to your first comment but I also wanted to tackle some of your theories.
Regarding Diana Venicia, I think she'll survive until late in the game but actually act as a red herring regarding the mastermind's identity. Else, it'd be too obvious, given that she has a fashion-related talent like two other masterminds from the canon games. Also, as you said, her name seems to be an alteration of Venezia, known for its carnival and its masks meant to conceal identities and deceive others. As such, she may be mistaken for the mastermind for a chapter or two before the reveal of the latter's true identity.
As for her Hope's Peak emblem, her official reference sheet has been published on the game's official Twitter account and on it, one can see the emblem is actually missing the crown (probably Junko's from her haughty sprite) and Monokuma's red eye. Therefore, P:EG may take place before the Danganronpa games (and by that, I also mean before the Tragedy) and may show an unsuccessful attempt to launch the Tragedy (given the worldwide scale of the event, I won't believe it was only Junko and Monaca's doing and they hadn't any accomplices in other parts of the world)

Adding to your “Mastermind Diana” theory : The fact she has both wears the Hope’s Peak crest and is the Ultimate Cosmetologist makes me think that she’ll play a similar role/draw parallels to Junko. Both of their talents do revolve around their appearances, after all.
Of course, the devs are pulling away from DR tropes, like you said, but Hey! It’s food for thought, right?
All hints on the intro:
Bullet turning the screen blue most likely references the Pathos counter, which turns the counter popup light blue.
The small phrases behind Damon which say: "Discover the truth" "Defeat the Mastermind" and such, are most likely mentioning the fact that the academy's killing games have gone too far, perhaps?
"History repeats" also would back up the fact that the killing game they are in has repeated multiple times, maybe this killing game has happened multiple times and it's time for the cycle to break.
Damon, Eva and Desmond appear as shadows at the beginning of the trailer, and also are the first three characters to appear, maybe they are related to "the endless cycle?"

Unpopular opinion but for Eloise, I’m happy she’s a different weight compared to the others. In danganronpa games they usually never make the girls have more weight on. They always make them skinny. So I appreciate this

@@rishikaaa. Pretty sure they just meant chubby. Sakura's weight is all muscles
to be fair, I believe it's because most of the cast is Japanese- and their weight standards are much more thinner than in the West and Europe. Not to mention diet culture is very popular and prevalent there too. all in all, there are barely any overweight people in Japan, especially amongst teenage youth. so it's not necessarily a "we don't like bigger characters", but rather just a realistic take on Japan's slim-to-none body diversity. I do understand the appreciation to see a more diverse set of bodies though, I think it adds to the interesting take of Ultimates from around the world.

@@amdete8254 I wouldn't necessarily say that. I think there's only 3 overweight characters in DR as a whole. That being: Hifumi, Imposter, and Teruteru.
Hifumi, regardless of his weight, is not a bad person. He isn't really made fun of by the others, but rather, he's just a bit strange to them. However, this is because of his behavior rather than his weight. His weight makes sense for his talent, as he usually doesn't get much exercise at all. I wouldn't say he's a sterotype of fat people, but rather just a play on those who are usually engulfed in anime/dream-land.. hence his little "bits" where he acts like an anime character.
Imposter, regardless of his weight, was a very caring person and did his best to look out for everyone, even to a certain someone in the anime. He also finds comfort in food, and eats fast food regularly- this would explain his weight. Even so, he was not portrayed as someone lazy that just eats, but a leader who wants to protect those around him. I would say this isn't very sterotypical, and actually gives his character more reasons to be liked.
Teruteru, regardless of his weight, is not a terrible person. Massive perv, not an excuse, but I believe this is due to the fact that he's spoiled and an absolute "momma's boy". Probably just thinks he can get away with anything. Either way, I believe this ties in to his weight as well. He was probably over-fed by his mother or just ate a lot since he's always around food. Either way, his characteristics don't come from his weight, and that's fine. It shows the creators don't really base a character's personality off of their weight (look at his beta design).
To be fair, I understand why you would see DR in a light that insults or sterotypes overweight characters. However, when you look past the character's base concept of looks and talent- there's a real character who has a personality that isn't defined by their weight. this applies to real people as well, and perhaps DR teaches us to do just that.
Since I have nothing better to do, I'm going to try and analyze what I think the cast is going to be like and their order of death.
Damon Matsu/Ult. Debater (Snake) : We first have our protagonist who we will become very accustomed to throughout the entire game. Going off of both his character description and his animal motif (This will be a common theme throughout the analysis) I believe that Damon will be similar to an anti hero and maybe even act as the traitor in the group since a snake is slang for someone who tries to deceive others for their own personal gain while dragging everyone down, as well as it being a snake who convinced Eve (who could very well be represented by Eva) in the biblical story of Adam and Eve to take a bite out of the apple. But even with my latter theory and whether it's true or not, I think he will survive.
Eva Tsunaka/ Ult. Liar (Crow): Besides how mysterious she is, there is little to no information that we know about Eva. However, her animal motif provides me with 2 vital pieces of information that will point to what she will be like. First off, crows are very intelligent and is often underestimated how smart they are. For example, they are the the only animal besides primates who know how to make tools and have been shown to be capable of complex problem solving, abstract reasoning and making group decisions; as well as being conscientious of their own intelligence. The other piece of information is that crows are symbols of death. So with these 2 pieces of information, this leads me to believe that 1. Eva will be subtly pushing trials in the right direction as well as taking the initiative on investigations and 2. Her being a survivor since while she is a symbol of death, it is rarely their own death that is foretold. Oh and also Damon's right hand woman/ main ship.
Desmond Hall/ Ult. Marksman (Shark): Desmond is really hard to decide whether he is going to be a survivor or not because on the one hand, not only does he have a talent that could potentially be considered violent (A survivor flag) but his animal motif is a shark which may indicate he dies considering how sharks are believed to be the deadliest animal in the ocean, shark attacks are extremely rare which symbolizes that like Maki, he isn't as much as a threat as the others believe he is. But on the other hand, anyone with the description of "Heart of Gold" and "helping his friends accomplish their goals" is an instant death flag; as well as him disliking violence, may stoop so low as to use violence to protect someone. All that said, I do believe he will survive (I know I'm 3 for 3 for saying that a student will survive but trust me, we'll get there).
Eloise Taulner/ Ult. Fencer (Swan): Eloise appears to be a very timid character who while disliking confrontation, is ready to stand up for herself if the opportunity every presents itself. She is also very punctual as it states she is never late for practice and always intends to improve, which leads me to believe she'll act as a leader (Death Flag). Swans are also symbols of love so she'll likely have a very strong romantic relationship with 1 character who everyone ships, as well as having an odd sort of elegance since she is agile for her size and swans often being characterized in ballet. That said, not only do I think she will die, I also believe she'll be a killer in the early game and since this was nothing more than hunch before typing this since swans can be very violent to both other animals and humans , I know that now I have [albeit circumstantial] evidence of this with something called "The Black Swan Theory" which is "a metaphor that describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight." So what I believe is that she'll kill someone, most likely early on who was acting antagonistically, shock everyone since she was oh so sweet and after the fact, the cast will start to romanticize why she did it.
Toshiko Kayura/ Ult. Matchmaker (Flamingo): While shy, she is very confident in her ability and passionate about her talent, as well as being caring. However, she may act a slight bit on the antagonistic side considering how she enjoys reality TV and the last sentence of her character description states to not be taken off guard when she throws the occasional shade at you. As for her animal motif, flamingos symbolize grace and confidence, as well as femininity which indicates she will likely be very close to a lot of the girls and while still be friendly with them, won't be as close to the guys. With al that out of the way and even with knowing that the team behind P:EG is trying to avoid DR tropes, not only do I believe she'll die but I also think she'll be lucky if she makes it past the 3rd chapter.
Wenona/ Ult. Entrepreneur (Bear): The cold, calculated and elusive billionaire. Wenona is one of two possible candidates for what I call the "Major Character Development Character" and I'll get to the other [more likely candidate, imo] when I get there, though it will take a while. Wenona is also most likely to be the character who actively avoids everyone; either that or she'll show up but have a small presence since it states in her character description that she dislikes unions and while business may have no place in a death game, she may be willing to walk alone or call out their BS by saying that killing is inevitable. However, part of the reason I believe that she may live is that her animal motif is a symbol of family. I initially wrote it off since someone described as "Cold" and "Ruthless" contradicts symbolizing family. However, on top of the other things bears represent (Courage and Strength) corroborating her character description, it also mentions that she likes fundraisers so it shows that she does have a charitable side to her. However, if this turns out to be false, I'll just go ahead and say that my other theory is that she kills out of a selfish desire either for more money or affluence.
Ulysses Wilhelm/ Ult. Historian (Owl) : The majority pick for the mastermind. However, I disagree and here's why. The first line of his character description is "If we do not learn from our history, we are doomed to repeat it; Ulysses knows this lesson well." Which leads me to believe either one of two things: The first of which being that he knows something that the rest of the P:EG cast don't and will therefore end up as the first victim or the more likely scenario in which he is a killer in the 2nd half of the game (most likely Chapter 5) considering how owls are, just like crows, considered symbols of death and assuming this is true, he's going to be one of the people who carries the trials since owls represent wisdom and knowledge, as well as him being known for carrying around a notebook which will carry some sort of significance in either scenario.
Part 1 since putting them all in was too long.
Regarding Daimon Matsu: it seems that the equivalent of Monokuma in this game will be the two characters we see at 1:45. Given the whole Book of Genesis theming, as they are a man and a woman, they'll probably be called Adam and Eve. As the snake caused the fall of Adam and Eve, Daimon will probably "beat" these characters in some way (as in revealing their true identities and/or turn them against the mastermind)
Also, regarding the 1:45 characters, we can see they also have animal attributes on their attires (white cat(?) ears for "Black Eve" and black goat horns for "White Adam"). Maybe they'll act as Shirokuma and Kurokuma but not as fully benevolent nor malevolent as the latter. Maybe "Eve" will act at first intimidatingly or even aggressively with her machine gun but will eventually befriend and open herself up to the remaining students, while "Adam" will be sincerely benevolent in the beginning but end up acting in antagonistic ways (especially given the evil symbolism of goats in Christian culture).
PS: Regarding Daimon and Eva, maybe they'll just have a rivalry similar to that of Hajime and Nagito's. While the snake tempted Eve/Eva, crows can also eat snakes. Maybe, as you said, Eva will seemingly not take the class trials seriously and lie all the time so Daimon may expose them, indirectly helping him to reach the truth at the same time.
@@kroutkas5507 Actually, the names of the headmasters are Tozu (the ram) and Mara (the panther). Not entirely sure of the symbolism of the animals or the reasoning behind the names so do what you will with that info.
