good news! I just ordered one of these and it came from the factory with a taper insert! The taper actually feels great to me. So looks like they listened and fixed it right out the factory.

Hey Will, Love your videos. They have helped me understand the differences in bats so much. Do you think the Icon in -8 is just as good as the -5? My 10 year old is currently swinging -8 CF for travel ball and -8 Select pwr for little league.
I have always wondered this what are your thoughts on contact hitters just swinging 32/29 and still having control and a little more pop?
I just got a cat 9 comp at end of the fall and I’m gaming it the whole spring super hyped
Iv been swinging that bat at dbat and I love it but I they did add their own grip to it but I love the bat it is very very forgiving and I love the feel of the barrel
Hey Will, it would be awesome if you answered this, but I comfortably swing a 33” the goods and I was looking at a 33.5” Warstic bonesaber hybrid how do you think the swing weight compares as well as sweet spot and power with the different sizes? Thanks again!

What Bat taper should we use to make this modification? Should we use the standard looks very similar the one you used or she would use the Flared and it will be close to the BonesBR

I think I like the Rawlings icon the best and it's more durable than the CatX Comp
I use to slide rubber tapers over the knobs of softball bats. They never came with a tapered grip in my day.
I can't recall the brand, but they stretched right over the original grip. I HAD to have a taper! I swung with two fingers buried under and top hand covering over the bottom. No taper.....no bombs.
Probably a knob cuff. I have then on all my bats. Even on my anderson.
So I I just bought my son the ICON. I also did your same modification. He loves it. It's a very hot bat.
Did you used the flared or the standard Bat Taper?

Our local shop said they have had several Rawlings Icons being brought back because they broke. Also seems like the Cat X is more fragile than last years Cat9 Comp…. What have you heard?

Bro always drop a lizard skin over the old grip tape. It helps reduce ring ups, most kings triple grip their bats. Hence, the term “trip grip”.

i find those plastic tapers arent worth buying. so much easier to just use that black tape you had to put on it and make your own taper, cause it can be a lot smoother and you can do it exactly how you prefer

You gotta remember Usssa bats aren't made to be swung by grown men . For the amount of swings he put on that bat with his strength would be the equivalent of a 12 year old using it for a season+ if not longer.
So you gotta drop $400 on a bat and then another $20+ just to "fix" it?
