  • How to make the best Australian Herring fishing rig (Tommy Ruff) step by step. If you plan to go fishing for Australian Herring then watch this step by step instruction on how to make the best Australian Herring fishing rig. This is the rig I use when I I go fishing for Australian Herring (Tommy Ruff).
    Tommy Ruff is the old name, the new name is Australian Herring. We use ball floats, berley springs and 2 hooks...easy! Ball floats are heavier that pencil floats, which means you can cast out a greater distance.

    Your rig is what experts use to target garfish and tommies. Your hook selection is spot on as anything smaller will allow those little fighters to escape.
    Keep up the good work!

      Thanks! Yes we have had some luck with the garfish as well using this kind of rig.

      Thanks! I am not sure that a lot of people make their own rigs with all the pre-made ones around.

    Awesome. I have a couple of rigs which are store bought but I'd prefer making my own and shall make some while the weather is crap. I use a magnifier light on my fishing bench to help see

      What kind of magnifier light have you got? I want to buy a decent one..

      @@fishingsister Not sure of the brand as I have it for years. It's like a desk lamp but a circle with a magnifying glass about 6" in diameter in the centre

    When tying the uniknot, arrange the loops into the figure eight shape before pulling tight, the coils in the knot formation will then lie neatly next to each other! 🎣

    Hello sister! What kind of burley do you use? The one at the shops?

    • @fishingsister
      @fishingsister  Před rokem +1

      Great question. We make up our own burley from bread , curry powder, and fish oil. Sometimes, we also add in the fine burley you buy from the shops.

      @fishing sister My wife has 2 cats, so when she is not looking, I take a bunch of cat food, grind it, and mix with fish oil...

      @fishingsister  Před rokem +1

      Yes. I have heard that before too. Does it work?

    • @kalunvinka
      @kalunvinka Před rokem

      @fishing sister To be honest, I am not sure. I use it for ruffs, and I always bag limit with ot without... I get bag limit because I keep them in the freezer and use them as bait when I go fishing for big stuff.

    Do you put the split shot on both hooks or just the leader hook? Thanks

    • @fishingsister
      @fishingsister  Před rokem +1

      Hi, We only put the split shot on the bottom hook. You don't want to weigh down the top hook as that creates tangles. Good luck with the fishing, let us know how you go.
