Challenging Fishing, Mount Camel Beach, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia
Fishing Mount Camel Beach, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia is a challenging beach fishing location. This is a great Australian Salmon fishing spot and falls within the allowed Australian Salmon Fishing Championship fishing locations. We caught Salmon, Australian Herring and mullet which was enough for dinner. If you are Australian Salmon fishing South Australia don't forget to give this Australian Salmon fishing spot a go. If you cannot catch any Australian Salmon there are plenty of Mullet, Australian Herring and Flathead fish you can catch for dinner. So Mount Camel on the Eyre Peninsula is worth a fishing trip.

    Hi sister, if you are staying at venus bay, i recommend a salmon session up behind the shacks at venus. There is a nice sheltered ledge there overlooking the entrance to the bay. We had heaps of salmon on a squid float type rig with pillies about a metre below the float. A very visual way of catching salmon. We also had dolphins surfing in the water below us, cheers , geoff

    Love your show… and the locations you visit 😊 But you need to measure your fish properly. Measure to the inner centre of the tail, not to the end of the tail.. That’s formal and professional way to measure 👍 … you’re stealing a few centimetres 😉

      @fishingsister Před dnem

      Thanks Ben! We have been very lucky to travel to the places we have been so far, and there are so many more to visit 🙂. Re the measuring - there seems to be two schools of thought (no pun intended). I always go by PIRSA here in SA who say on their website measure from the tip of the upper jaw to the tip of the tail but I know there are different methods around and maybe interstate too. Thanks for watching 👍

      Hi the csrpark is just above the beach so an easy walk onto the sand. We like to fish the far end of the beach which is about 10 -15 minute walk. Not far. If I am walking in I leave my big bucket in the car and use my mesh burley bag to carry the fish back in. I dont often get large fish there but I guess you never know! Hi guys still enjoying your videos, we live in Adelaide and will be going to the Eyre Peninsular soon . Can we camp there at venus bay in our van where you caught the salmon. Just want a quiet place for a couple of days and some fishing. And we also take our rubbish with us. Cheers Steve and Deb .

      We don't remember seeing any campgrounds there. Port Kenney caravan park, or Coolie Park Eco Retreat has bush camping. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos👍more to come.

      Yes I made that up so I could quickly find out what I'd caught and if I could keep it (being a novice 😉).

    None of us locals see your rigs as overkill. I see 35lb line and No.2 hooks as average normal basic size. Those who use braid use 50-80lb, which is fine for metals but no good for sinker fishing due to abrasion against the sans. The average for me is 50lb mono and big hooks - but I'm after the 10lb plus fish so there is that... I use breakaway sinkers, that way the spikes just fold away. Circle hooks were developed in the long line fisheries. Very good on the fish if you want to release them with minimal hurt. Those beaches are beautiful but very dangerous if taken lightly. Sharks patrol every gutter sooner or later. The big salmon are in close because the big predators are outside the surf line pushing them in... Great session, that last fish is what we generally go for off the beaches from Wanna all the way up to there and further, I don't think it matters where you go along that coast, always find the big ones eventually.

    people on the West Coast eat their salmon but you got to bleed the right away snap the neck and pull the head back .Commercial salmon fishermen used to cook them right away but they always coated them in Grayvox powder first then fry.Lot of Eyre Peninsula folks smoke them in home made smoke boxes which can be okay as well most ends up as cray bait though.Head on up to the wild west to Fowlers bay i remember about 20 years ago when i was a Tuna fisherman my boss came up with the idea of carting the sections of the tuna farms up to Folwers and assembling them on the beach rather than tow the whole farms at 2 or 3 knots from Lincoln by boat saving a weeks towing.The farms were 30 meters in diameter so as we built them the outer edge of the ring was that far from the beach as we launched them and in about 3 or 4 ft of water ....there were shark fins everywhere milling around the ring as there was heaps of Tommies etc congregating under them never seen so many bronzies in my life (except at Bollingbrook while live baiting one night) .There are Tommies (Tommy Ruffs /native herring ) up there as big as small salmon and are excellent eating cooked over the coals of a wood fire ( favorite west coast thing is fresh tommies on a slice of bread right off the wood grill NO fillets that's for wimps whole fish gutted and scaled pull the flesh off the bones with hands or a fork salt and pepper ...now that's good eating) the western end is where the salmon/tommies beach and bronzies are there is or was a jetty in front of the township can also fish from there and blue crabs as well.On the western end of the bay around from the township if you have a boat is a lump just under the surface of the water there is snapper by the bag there as well as a few other species.There is also a seal colony which is bad news up that way as it means white pointers i was on a boat that sunk there in the middle of the night in a gale while trying to get back to the tuna boat that was anchored a few miles from shore and almost drowned.... the guy who owned the kiosk told me the next day there had been a huge pointer cruising backward and forwards past the colony for weeks not good news as the boat that sunk was carrying a ton of frozen pilchards in 30 kg blocks so i was treading water in a blood and fish oil slick in the middle of the night while another tinny was searching for me .also further west around the point is where i believe they used to go after mulloway .cheers.

      Wow you sure have some stories to tell 😃. We have recently spent some time on the West Coast at Streaky and around Elliston. Probably the best fishing I will ever have! It was amazing. Didn't get up to Fowlers and Dog Fence but will go there one day for sure

    You can also collect them from a boat using razor fish tongs in over a meter of water to get some real honkers ( big ones) best to go on a day when there is little or no wind same as blue crab raking it makes it a lot easier to see them i have also crabbed and razor fished in the middle of a still moonless night by lamp light with great success .Recipe we used to use for pickling razor fish was 1 part seawater to 3 parts white vinegar add some salt and plenty of white pepper some also add pepper corns or raw onion or garlic or chili , taste your pickling brine and adjust to taste refrigerate right away and leave for a few days .The hearts will firm up and the brine should look milky white when you shake the jar.I used to eat all the razor fish then drink the pickling brine in the days after it is beautiful.We used to eat them raw as we were fishing for whiting LOL to me they are better than scallops and i never understood why no one tried to raise them from spat and put them in a commercial aquaculture farm .

    Hello Fishing sister, I just started following you. Do you think I can use a salted cockles with no.6 hook and can fish at waitpinga beach? I only started fishing and loving it so far. I caught tommies, trevally, parrotfish, pufferfish, crabs, etc. and wanted to catch a salmon.

    • @fishingsister

      Sounds like you're doing great so far! I like to use salted pilchard to catch salmon but when they are hungry they are not that fussy apparently. I use bigger hooks like size 1.0. Good luck at Waits. It is a hard beach to fish but so beautiful 😍

      They are so much fun to catch.! The water can be very turbulent so keeping bait on your hooks us a big challenge. I tie my pilchards on! Lots of people use lures as well but I love using bait.

    The best thing about your channel is how you’re teaching everything at a beginner level from site selection, winds, to all the names of the various bits of the tackle which gets a lot of the beginners like me confused and can be overwhelming and can put people off as it seems so complicated, but you make it so simple and enjoyable. Cant wait to go out there and start fishing
