    Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) czcams.com/users/postUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

    Robert you need to run A/C hose between the two units and get rid of the copper line. The vibration between the two units will crack the copper line or worst the coils in the units.

As far as drivers being lucky to get home every couple of months that's on them if they work for a company that doesn't care about their drivers. As for myself I drove OTR for 40 years and when I wanted to go home I went. I never thought of myself being married to a truck or company. I very seldom stayed out more than two weeks especially when I was married. When I wasn't married I would stay out several months at a time. Hey Robert , I just installed one myself on my KW, instead of using the copper lineset that comes with the unit I got a custom R410A rubber hoses made to handle the road vibration. Those copper ones will not last. Also, instead of using those screws to hold the inside unit docking plate I used 4 locking nuts and bolts . It looks nice though.

    I've seen a few comments regarding the copper lines being coiled and how they're going to prevent the oil from returning to the compressor. NOPE! I've installed several of these mini-splits on homes and even the manufacturers recommend coiling the excess at or near the outdoor unit to save the factory flares which are considered far superior to most flares that an installer can make on site. That's why the line-sets come in fixed lengths with both ends having flares and fittings preinstalled. It's a misconception that oil is returned to the compressor by gravity. It is not. It is carried by the freon.

    Hey Richard nice install and that looks like finally for real going to keep your truck cool and warm, But you really need to take the wires out of the panel box you installed and use romex connectors to bring the wires into the enclosure because of the vibration. Your truck will go on fire when the wires short out. I have seen a truck go up in flames their really is no time to do any thing but get out.

    Protect the insulation on your cooling lines as it does not stand up to the sun, rain and wind. Get some additional insulation like rubber insulation that you put on water pipes that you put over the insulation. The original insulation dies in a year or two. The unit itself, at least in my experience, is good.

    I always soap bubble the flare joints when checking for leaks. Also leaving copper coiled up may cause oil return problems. Eventually leading to failed compressor. I am wondering if the error code was caused because the valves at the condenser were not open. Compressor tried to run and caused some sort of voltage drop. Due initial current draw. (LRA) i do ac down in fl if anything i can help just ask.

    I know this video is a year old but got some questions. First how is it holding up? I plan on doing this and removing my carrier hvac system and just using the generator to power it. How does it cool when it's 100 outside? I'm planning to use the flex rubber lines.
    My next question is did you remove the whole under the bed hvac unit? I would love to get that room back...

      This is still doing great. Mount to cab not headache rack. I left the unit under the bed. It cools the back of the truck great when it super hot out. But you will need to put some window shades in to help the front.

    In Kenya i’ve once seen a pickup truck with a split ac installed on the bed/ behind seats

    Did those copper lines stand the test of time? About to install one of these on my rig and wondering if I should replace the copper as one of the commenters suggested.

      Lines are doing fine. The first time we did this we attached to headache rack and that killed it. It now lives on the back of the cab on air ride. And is still doing great! Copper lines and all. Just keep them tied up.

    Would it have been easier or cheaper to have the truck ac lines connected to the apu so the apu is turning an ac compressor? I've always thought that's how they worked?

    • @SouthGeorgiaHotShot
      @SouthGeorgiaHotShot  Před 2 lety

      Usually the Apu comes with its own ac system. Mine was free, so it did not.

    I saw in the comments that you move the condenser from the headache rack to a cab mount. Did you have trouble with the lines or the condenser. I think I will move mine off my headache rack

    Just wondering if that ac unit will put up with the vibration and jurking that will be put on it, attached to a semi?

      I'm hoping with air ride and the rubber blocks it will be ok. Time will tell I suppose ☺️

      It will be fine. I put one in my fifth wheel works great 👌

    At around 28:30 you mention the adapter you need to hook up your HVAC gauges and vacuum pump as 3/8 inch. It's actually 5/16 inch adapter. I got hung up with this on my first installation too. Maybe someone already mentioned this in the comments but I didn't read them all.
    As an aside, can you comment on how it's working out for you particularly having the indoor unit so close to your bed. Does it get too cold?

      @SouthGeorgiaHotShot  Před rokem +1

      Since this video we’ve moved it to the cab instead of the headache rack. And if you sleep on the top bunk it’s cold! But I love it cold 🥶

    Did you even think about the cab airbags and mounting to the stationary headache rack and the flexing on the lines, won't last long buddy.

    Set the rpm of the engine right? Requires a specific rpm to maintain the 59.97hz.

    • @SouthGeorgiaHotShot
      @SouthGeorgiaHotShot  Před 2 lety

      yes the rpm of the engine determines the voltage on this one. Some use some type of voltage regulator. This one does not

    How about installing under cab using flexible hose lines?

    Guessing the original brackets fell victim to fatigue from vibration and flexing. There's probably some physics formula to explain it, but I slept through that day in class.

    • @davidgriffin14
      @davidgriffin14 Před 2 lety

      Maybe the a/c brackets will do the same!

    • @shadowchaser6362

      It may be due to the main truck frame twisting on uneven terrain and engine torque, my best guess. How is fatbutts doing?
