7 years later, your videos are still helping a new brewer!
Also 8 years later, helping a new brewer. This is what I wish everyone would understand, that accurate information will ALWAYS be valuable.
9 years later helping a new brewer amazing man with a nice personality
Thank you for the video .Very well explained.
10 years now
11 now👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Finally, a hydrometer reading vid that actually explains how to read a hydrometer! You did this perfectly and is the most informative explanation I’ve found, thanks so much 👍 Watching in 2020
Your videos helped me 8 years ago! Started brewing again and knew where to look, thanks Craig from ,Tasmania Australia
Just started home brewing and this really was a great help understanding how the hydrometer works. "There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count and those who can't.".
Your videos have helped me a LOT. I am a new wine maker and wannabe beer maker. I think I can comfortably try beer now after watching your videos. THANK YOU for taking the time.
I tried to figure out a hydrometer several times and finally decided not to use one with my beer kits. Even when I started doing whole grain brewing I didn't use them because I was following a recipe. Now that I have mature fruit trees and a family can only eat so much jelly, wine naturally came next. It seems like a hydrometer is all but necessary in the wine making process. Thank you for this video. You are the only person that has explained this in a very simple way that was very easy to understand.
12 years you made this video and now 2021 I first saw it. Excellent one.
I love your videos, i hope you don't let the idiots who post negative comments get you down, you have a lot of true fans who are grateful for your knowledge and friendly banter!
Peter Parker Nobody on planet Earth could have said it any better. Craig rules!
well beer rules!, Craig just makes it easy for a newbie like me, I think the most informative video creators on youtube!
Peter Parker
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time and posting these videos to help out guys like me that want to give home brewing a shot but knowing nothing about it, the knowledge and experience you have gained over the years. I cant wait to get started!
A decade on and this is still the most useful video about hydrometers on CZcams. Thanks a million!
I've just started home brewing and I gotta tell you your videos are the most informative and detailed videos on this subject. Thank you sir! Cheers.
Excellent job Craig! I have been home brewing for about 6 months now and truly havent been confident in reading my hydrometer until now! Great work!
Found your video just in time! I'm a seasoned home brewer (3 years now), and I`ve just started using a hydrometer.
Wine`s my gig, but the info is still very, very useful!
Thanks so much.
Cheers
This is the 4th video I am watching with regards to understanding a hydrometer. Finally I get it. Thanks for the upload.
Nice video. You've kept it clear and simple like most of the viewers who have looked for information on the use of a hydrometer. Thanks again.
good ol' craig, never fails to amuse, but at the same time one of the most easiest to follow and understand 'instructional' video makers on youtube :) - keep up the good work!
Thanks for these videos Craig. It's good to see someone with knowledge without being snobby about it. I am fairly knowledgable about the process of brewing beer, and still learn something new from these. Thanks again, and happy brewing!
I love your videos Craig. When I first decided to home brew, I happened across one of your videos and have literally watched every single one since. Thanks for taking the time to make and post these, they're an unbelievable help!
I bought the Cooper's Home Brew Kit and I have fallen in love with home brewing....The directions are simple. Yet, it does not give detailed description on using the hydrometer....your video has been very instrumental and quite educational...Thank You...this is my 2nd video I have watched of yours and I will continue to seek other videos..
Cheers....
Thank you so much for a simple explanation of how this thing works. It was driving me nuts until I saw this video that clearly shows how to do the readings.
I'm getting everything together for my first brew day tomorrow and I just wanted to let you know that this and another of your videos have been a huge help in clearing up some of the lingering questions I had. Thank you :)
Just recently got into homebrewing beer and never could get around to learning how to use a hydrometer. (just used taste, visual cues, and approximation) I could have gone to some other website thru other videos, or text based, However, Craig here explains it in a calm one to one dialog which is very easy to pick up and understand. (with some added humor I should say) At the end, I find myself very informed and not so intimidated by such scientific tools of the trade. A very good video!
Just purchased and received my very first home brew kit ( Coopers European Lager)..... very keen to get started, but was struggling with the technical stuff, regarding the hydrometer.....Thanks to your video I now feel able to start..... Thanks :D
Thank you. Excellent video. Starting my first Home Brew Kit. I have watched a few video's trying to figure out Hydrometer readings. This is the best, I've learnt loads. Cheers.
Excellent tutorial. The most informative part for me, being a new brewer, was this quote: "You could put sugar and water together, add yeast, and get a beverage with an alcohol content."
That statement has just opened doors for me in a way that may be difficult to understand. Thank you.
Hi Craig, I just wanted to say that I enjoy your videos and I appreciate you taking the time to make them. I'm a relatively novice homebrewer and your detailed explanation of concepts are very helpful. I've recently made the switch from extract to all grain BIAB and I'm loving it. Cheers!
I just discovered your channel a few days ago. You have been very helpful in my beer making adventures. Thank You!
Thanks for taking the time to put these tutorials together. I’m about to start home brewing and I’m using your videos to guide me along and to better understand the processes. It’s really a great thing to share knowledge...🤝
Oh thank you for making a tutorial on hydrometers thats ACTUALLY USEFUL! I think what makes this helpful is that you actually discuss what "gravity" is. Cheers!
Craigs videos are great, easy to follow, just enough explanation of whats going on to help make it interesting and not boring. Negative comments are just rude - dont watch if you know it already, dont whinge if you feel its too dumbed down. Im in Northern ireland and Craigs made my brews much more tolerable, far more use than local halfwits attempting 20% lagers and other muck. Keep up the good work Mr Farraway!
Cracking vid Craig, informative and accurate, and well presented.
Absolutely love the 2nd blooper when you turned round to the table!
I daren't admit to how many times I replayed that bit!
Best hydrometer video on you tube.... I went through allot... this is the only one that I never fell asleep through...The last experiments you did really put the puzzle together...
I love your videos, very clear, often amusing, helpful teaching! Cheers, from New Zealand! (Ian, first time brewer, following your instructions!)
Great video and a very informative presentation. I've been brewing wine for a while but have been winging the alcohol content. Bought a hydrometer recently to change that and then stumbled on you. Brilliant BS free to the point explanation. Thanks Craig.
Thank you so much! I have been reading how to make wine online for several years. When I'm to do other beverages and finally came back to wine. No where could I find except in this video, What and average reading for the brew or alcohol that you were making might normally be. They only said 1.00 for water. How does that help me know if my reading is correct? Answer. It does not. You gave REAL info on the range For the initial reading! ...and the boat analogy made SO much sense! I know how it works! . Doing a happy dance. I had tossed this in a corner, think ing.. I will just wing it. Its fermenting now, so I figured I would search one more time! Just thank you. I will now go back to the video...
Just got my first homebrew kit, was a bit worried about using the hydrometer but this has cleared things up.
cheers
Thanks for another great video, Craig. You have a knack for explaining things so others can understand them. I am going to the home brew store today and, while I'm there, I'll finally buy a hydrometer. I haven't been using one because they looked intimidating until now. Thanks again!
Hey Craig thanks for your efforts, I am a novice brewer, I started brewing 30 years ago (wish I was joking) and have started brewing again, your videos are extremely helpful and detailed, thanks for the effort, makes my efforts a lot less painful.
me and my misses only started reading about this two weeks ago, our first wine making kit comes in 5 days so total newbies and this is a great explination
Thanks for your video Craig. I'm a first time brewer trying to time my cider's transfer from brewing vessel to keg and think I've got it with your help! Here's hoping it tastes good.
Very useful, I'm a first timer You helped me a lot with my wine, next is beer. Thank you for your videos
what a guy funny and a great way of teaching a new brewer about the hydrometer. Thanks so much fella
Excellent demonstration - I was struggling with readings and you have clarified evertything
Nice video Craig. Very informative as always. Thanks to your videos I will be brewing for the first time at the weekend.
Hey, great video. Very instructional, made easy to understand. First time I viewed any of yours. Going to try to make wine from my bumper crop of grapes this year. Thanks a bunch! George from CT
Thanks for a very informative video! Me being a first time brewer, I found this extremely helpful as the first time I looked at the hydrometer, it may as well have been double Dutch! Thanks again!
Thanks for this video! I got here from coopers after having some serious confusion abt how to read my new hydrometer. I actually read it kind of backwards and assumed it would be at 1.040 at the end and start at 1.000.
So when I got my reading before it was time to bottle the beer I thought the yeast was messing with me when the reading was abt 1.009. I had resigned myself for some very light beer when I stumbled upon your video which clarified things for me. Many thanks!
I like how technical you are with the details.
novice brewer here...thanks for explaining the SG and hydrometers..it makes it easier to understand now..and as a aussie brewer, i support your coopers brewing..lol...cheers
Well done Craig, just started brewing and need as much help as i can get.
I just got a hydrometer (for hard cider) and needed directions on how to use it. Your video is excellent and the most helpful so far...I thought the "boat" example was good, too. Thanks!
Craig, I love all of your videos and I have become a regular on Friday nights in your Jtv room. Regarding how to read one's hydrometer, I used water as a base and my 1.000 reading was above the meniscus. It was also on the instructions that came with my hydrometer. So you were correct when you wrote in the video to 'read the instructions'. Cheers! 17
thanks for this. I appreciate the detailed info and for helping us new-to-brew guys understand this critical part of home brewing.
This is a great explanation on how to use a hydrometer. Very clear and detailed. Thanks.
great channel. I been doing this since school and this is the first time I got to understand HOW to use this gadget. At the moment ihave brewing cider from pure apple, woodfords 'nog' a norfolk brew and vimto a friut squash that is being fermented out. Thnks for great vids hope to see more.
cool video Craig. Tnx for taking time to help me understand my hydrometer. And by the way.. I love that you shoot at home rather than a studio. I feel more relaxed about my brewing that way. Mark
Craig is nothing short of legendary! Brews like a boss!
been brewing for years! enjoy your videos...i like your editing! very nice! I can tell you enjoy this!
I love your videos, very instructional. They are helping me to improve my wine making . Ty very much for your efforts
It's 2019 and this video still saved my life!
Finally understand what I am looking at on my readings, thanks from a new fan!
Great video, as usual. Your explanations are very detailed and your analogies are perfect. I liked the boat example in salt water etc. Never heard it described like that.
Excellent instruction. Just got one and had it in my hand while he talked. Made it very easy to understand.
Thanks craig! You've helped me a lot with all your videos.
i am just starting to discover the world of homebrew after retiring this vid really helped thanks.
I honestly don't see why anyone would want to give your videos a thumb down. By far the most informative and thorough brewing instructional videos I've come across on youtube.
Keep up the great work, my friend!
I'm a well-seasoned wine maker, who has watched this video a few times.
THANKS CRAIG
clearest explanation of how to use a hydrometer ive ever seen, great stuff craig Cheers
I think this is a fantastic video. Thanks so much for your time in putting it together! A valuable resource and I hope you keep it up permanently!
Craig you're a legend! Love your style ... informative, genuine and real .. Learnt lots ... chur chur brother!! Good man keep it up ... from New Zealand!!
Thanks for your help! I did not understand how to read the scale on the hydrometer or the importance of taking these measurements. Now I get it. I have not seen this info in books or instruction explained quite the same way.
I really appreciate you taking the time to make your videos. I've watched most of them! thanks again.
Totally new to brewing and this has helped loads. Thank You
i have been home brewing for 5 years and still learned something new
Greeting from Sweden Craig, love your videos. Very helpful and informative for a beginner brewer!
I love this video, so many other videos were being confusing. This video explained it really well ! Thank you !
really good video, easy to understand for a wine / home-brew beginner.
this is the best i have ever seen about hydrometres that i was looking since my work is highly related to hydrometers since i use it to determine API of crude oil
Hello. New brewer...Many thanks for the Hydrometer lesson. Very clear and presented. Cheers and thanks
Best video I've seen on hydrometers. Thank you
I don't understand how anyone could give a thumbs down!!! Great information and thanks for your time Craig
concise and informative 10/10, make more instructional stuff you have a talent for making it watchable, us newbees need all the un cluttered help we can get, thanks (Steve)
My man, you are the bomb. You really helped me out on how to read the hydrometer. Thank you so very much.
Very Informative. I'm new to brewing and you have answered alot of my questions. Thank you!
Really great video, love the effort you've put into it!
I am going to try wine making, thanks for taking the time to do this vid. I thought it was great.
Added comment before finished!! As I said, nice vid. Clear and instructive. Thanks very much Craig. Looking forward to watching more. Cheers from Scotland
Thank you! Very infomative. I bought a hydrometer for my husband and he doesn't know how to use it. I'll take great pleasure in showing him :-)!
Awesome video man. Just got my hydrometer in the mail tonight. Time to stop jerryrigging my wine and get down to business. Thanks again!
Enjoyed the Video, very good explanation of what and how to use the Hydrometer. The word you were looking for is a Meniscus for the curve of liquid.
I appreciate the video. It cleared up the "Alcohol %" portion of the hydrometer. I was making the mistake of reading it after the yeast was pitched. Bloopers are always good too!!
Hello Craig , so far found all your videos ot be very useful to a new beer brewer. I have even downloaded some of them to watch later. This particular video was a good one as most newbies would have no idea what to look for .. I wish I had your space for making brews though . I have to use bathroom shower to clean everything as fermentation bin wont fit under kitchen taps. Keep up good work . Best wishes Paul
Craig tube u are brilliant .. I've learnt alot and u have given me the inspiration to do my own home brew I'm starting a coopers larger to start with tonight actually.. I will let u know my results .. keep up the recent uploads.
Thanks for this I was searching to find how to use these and settled on your explanation! You're a funny guy 😂
Thank you much, very useful for a fellow just starting. I understood what is about now. Your fresh water/salt water boat analogy was good. It floats my boat.😎
Thanks ! Good job...I want to start making wine and beer. Your video helped me a lot to understand the the Hydrometer and it's use. Cheers!!!!!!
Thank you very much. I needed someone to explain how to read the hydrometer. It has so many numbers and I didn't know which one I needed to use for beer. Now I know! thanks!
Great video for a beginning brewer. Thanks!! Keep them coming
This was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks a million!
THanks, I've had one of those hydrometers for a while but only just used it my my last batch of wine. I just made a batch of blueberry, and one of peach-strawberry. They came out awesome - especially mixed with ginger ale and sprite respectively. You almost have to add some sweetness back to it or it's too dry.
