Graham Nash: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

- While I sat on the floor watching Graham Nash play The Hollies' 1966 hit "Bus Stop," I caught a glimpse of the same transistor radio I had as a kid when that song filled the AM radio airwaves. It was surreal and beautiful.
Nash has a voice that resonates and cuts to the core. When he played the title track from his forthcoming solo album This Path Tonight, I was moved by the clarity and quality of his tone. His lucid songwriting displays the deep introspection that comes with age; he's 74 and as insightful as ever. Along with guitarist Shane Fontayne, Nash played music that felt memorable, touching and as thoughtful as anything he made during his time with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
This Path Tonight is available now:

Bus Stop, 50 years old. Still sounds as fresh as when I first heard it.
Written by Graham Gouldman of 10CC and Wax fame. With his dad. When he was still a teenager.
But while you're waiting at the bus stop, don't stand so close to me. It's a great song, tho.
Am 28 and I thought I have wasted a lot of time..but this legend proves me that Age is just a number, this man inspires me to take out my guitar and write the songs I always wanted to. Thank you Graham Nash.
Never too late.....Music will free you........
Aditya-I feel the same.
@ddjdd wfgggb lol
Aditya: I loved the song you wrote "ruk ja o jani wali".... keep singing it...
28? You mean 28 years old? Wow, yeah, you're old.
I'm 63.
It is so refreshing to hear an artist perform a 50 year old hit like it was a new release. Thank you Graham.
Apr 2019
I grew up listening to MTV Unplugged. I am not
taking anything away from MTV Unplugged.
BUT NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert is better.
More natural; more sublime.
Peace, love and RNR!
I had the pleasure to see Crosby and Nash in concert a few years ago and they sounded as good as ever. This Tiny Desk series is the best thing since MTV's Unplugged. Thank you NPR.
Saw these guys 34 yrs ago, 1985, outside of Chicago. Raining down hard, but inside, warm and mellow vibes. Crosby was obviously not well with his liver/health issues and missed a portion of the show, nevertheless, it was great.
My husband and I saw CSN at a lil casino hall venue almost 20 years ago, they were phenomenal! Great memory.
I realize this is 5 years old but it is new to me. I'm a life long musician and more recent also a song writer. I was blown away by Myself At Last. Wow! Beautiful chord changes and great meaningful lyrics. More people need to hear it.
Sittin' here, stupid grin, just loving this. Just freaking amazing. I wanna be Graham when I grow up. What a man, voice, activist, humanist, singer......holy shit.
Saw them do this live at The Saban. Just like this. True talent. Don't need all the production when you sound like this live.
"Myself at Last" had me weeping tears of beautiful anguish. Masterful music from these two musicians. Wonderful.
my father is the spitting image of Graham Nash in the younger days - everything even the hair couldn't be more proud .. Graham Nash has still got it the talent the voice and everything..
A legend can play a new song between 50 year old classics and not miss a beat. Awesome
Graham Nash: Better than ever song-writing. His passion has not ebbed. I will cherish the new collection of songs.
Such a beautiful, emotive musician, and so well supported here. Songs For Beginners is an album I never get sick of.
I had Songs for Beginners on 8-track, would go to bed listening and then wake up to it still playing. I can play Be Yourself now, after 46 years, can't quite hit the high notes, but a great accomplishment none the less
'oly cow! His voice at 74 is still amazing, this explains why I got hooked on CSNY music since the very firest time that I heard them...and he was much younger!
Absolutely! I saw him do a solo gig in late '15 and he covered it ALL perfectly.
Graham Nash is one of the best musicians alive and one of the best ever. I love his Album "This Path Tonight" so much especially the beautiful Song "Myself at Last".
Me too 👍
Graham and Shane sound so good together. Mr Nash is in fine voice, sounds as good as he always did
I find that I can only take this wonderful broadcast in short takes, there is so much feeling and pure musicianship there, Thank you, Graham from the Hollies to CSN&Y to your solo path to the moon!
Nash gets old, but the voice is just the same. This guys FABULOUS!!!
Wow. He sounds great still. Glad to see his voice has held up.
Saw those two perform live at "Burg Herzberg" Festival this year. It was the last day and after 4 incredibly hot days the rain started falling in the middle of their performance. It had something very pure to it. Amazing crowd, amazing musicians.
One of the things I love about watching great musicians are the gorgeous instruments they play. Especially acoustic guitars. Crosby, Nash, Richard Thompson, the fine guitars they play make me happy.
Been a Nash fan since I first heard The Hollies way back in mid-60s. followed his career through CSN and beyond. What a treat then to come across this Tiny Desk Concert with Graham, an acoustic guitar and a second guitar and voice. Very nice. When I heard the first strains of Bus Stop I was hooked for the duration of the video. Loved it all...
Glen Parker
Avondale, N.S.,Canada
That second guitar is Shane Fontayne, who slayed it when he played the incredible solo in Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors. It's on you tube, and it's unforgettable. 🎶💙🎶
Graham is truly a gift for us, thank you very much
Bus Stop takes me back to being in Junior High in Kansas City, MO in the late sixties and very early seventies.Sleeping in a pup tent in the backyard under a huge black walnut tree. I had a little transistor radio I got from Sunday School attendance, and in the dark of night I could pull in radio stations from New Orleans, Chicago, San Antonio. Hearing these sixties tunes and fifties doo wap and such.
Why won't they make recordings just like this. Forget about the studio and the multi tracks. This is as good as music gets
+Rich B
Because producers today think that's the way it has to be done. That's what they were told and they have the technology and by golly they're gonna use it.
Rich B Well, studios and multitracks are good. the trick is to put these guys in a studio with the multitracks rolling away, and have them play live right there. maybe throw some backing vocals in later? bass? keys? you get the point. But what really kills the music is stuff like autotune, cut and paste, dynamic range compression (an important tool, but much overused, especially on masters). I feel like this is how you make the best, most pure music. a mix of good gear and Recording techniques, and excellent musicians. forget technology.
Great idea....
kyle saloka I disagree.. sure you might as well do it properly if your multitracking. I would love to hear more musicians being captured live.. if you need a harmony, get another vocalist in etc.
@@jimmy5634 Put a chunk of the blame on Phil Spector. He started doing all that layering and "sound on sound" noise in the early sixties. It may have worked ok on some of the girl group records, but muddied lots of other music badly. Imltho.
Wonderful to hear these two great musicians....Graham Nash is still hitting the notes with a voice that has been so clear, pristine, natural and a Gift to humanity....Cool! Thank you.
Shane Fontayne played "Stairway to Heaven" at the Kennedy Center Honors a few years ago. His solo was magnificent! 🎶💙☺🎶
This is the best music channel on CZcams.
Agreed
Yepp!
+Leonardo Henrique Right on! Long live National Public Radio. 03/19/2016
Amen to that!
+Leonardo Henrique Don't forget KEXP!
"Myself at Last" - what a song!! Man, he's still got it!
I love The Hollies! Despite the changes in the line up. Their music is timeless. I’m here in March 2020 . This is priceless 🎉🎶xx
I just heard Graham Nash in concert this past weekend. It was excellent. 50 years on and he still is making beautiful music. We are very fortunate.
Been listening to Graham for over 50 years and it is still like day 1, I am always grateful to him for solving my perplexing problems, and doing it with some of the best music at that. I will be Graham's brother forever,we do speak the very language of the heavens. Thank you bro for all you have done for the world and me
Mr. Nash.....simply put....I think you are the best ! Thank you for all the years and the wonderful music !
...rolling down this lonesome road, to find myself at last...
I found myself at last :-)
Beautiful happy song.
This takes me right back to my youth. my oh my. We were young and in love with life itself. Thank you for the memories. XXXX
This version of Bus Stop is by far the best I have heard, by far. including the original. There's just something about the Crosby and Nash style vocals (dare I say it) that gives it a rawness.
had me at "We enjoyed it"
Graham Nash what a legend. I'd also like to show some respect to Shane Fontayne, he's toured with so many legendary artists such as Graham and Bruce Springsteen and being the guitarist for The Kennedy Center Honors and he's also a great singer and songwriter himself!!
Thank you so much for your love and support. The su of wonderful fan like you keep me going and strong
Fabulous songs, both new and old!

Just raw talent. 2 properly grown up blokes, and a couple of guitars. Beautiful.
I have so much love and respect for this talented man.

Simple but not…straight forward beautiful melody…miss you 1960’s…especially the Brits!
Well said!
Love the Tiny Desk Concerts. Nash still sounds great. On Bus Stop, would have been nice to give a shout out to the original songwriter - Graham Gouldman, of 10cc fame.
I'm so excited to have found this tiny desk. l discovered Grahan Nash thanks to The Head and the Heart's cover "our house" and now l cannot stop hearing them❤️love from Peru
Great for ever. Nash is one of the greatest genius of the music in every time.
Love that little Lowden Nash is playing.
I sure am glad I stumbled upon this tonight, good stuff.
myself at last - first time I've heard this, and it is a beautiful song.
Great songwriters are continually inspired ... and continue to inspire us as songwriters.
I'm here in 2019 too. I'm wearing an identical flannel shirt as Graham. That last song is a winner. I wish CSN would get together one more time.
UGH THIS ALBUM IS GONNA BE SO GOOD
I cant believe my ears and eyes ... Holy Smoke ... this is so deep and true a true Legend !!
Its amazing how they come up with that... the arrangement of the words and music in such a way of spirit, manifesting such truths, beautiful songs.
A living legend! Thanks NPR, your channel is simply the best!
Thank you Graham. I loved hearing this. You're still so good.
Nicely done guys....just amazing....I'm enjoying your music as much as you are playing it....
So many emotions... tears rolling down my cheeks. I think Graham Nash is incredible good, as his companion,,,
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.....todo una época. Esto no es pare rejuvecernos.
This speaks directly into my heart, especially Myself At Last. Thank you Graham Nash for your lifelong commitment to the spirit, the sound, the voice and the truth.
Beautiful honesty and warmth thank you
He is timeless
Our Universe is Laughing & Crying in the best of ways 💯
Very nice! We caught these two at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe PA a few months ago. One of the BEST shows I've ever seen. We had the chance to chat with them right afterwards and that made a great night even better. Shayne copped ALL the right parts, on both guitar and vocals. An absolute brilliant sideman and WAY humble.
Like Harrison in the Beatles this guy never got the recognition he really deserves, why did CSN or The Hollies leap out of the radio and grab you, his voice was their secret weapon.I'm not knocking the incredible Steve Stills or Dave Crosby but without Nash it would have lacked the magic.
+SuperStig23
Alan Clarke did most of the lead vocals. He was truly the "voice' of the Hollies. Graham did some of them but he mostly performed the high harmonyies.
jimmy5634 true. And Graham Gouldman wrote Bus stop and said it was one of his proudest moments. Still, I loved this series and hope to see more.
SuperStig23 Really ever hear of Buffalo Springfield?
Exactly what I was feeling. He was always in the background.
@@jimmy5634 It's Graham's harmonies that Stig is referring to
Gorgeous harmonies as ever!
Thank you NPR for such a wonderful artist at the desk . Nash is even better unplugged on his own . Such a musical genius over the years.
NPR is the modern day MTV Unplugged
Fa true!
This
This is a song I loved and actually believed in love forever, until I found out it isn't. Great sound, think I was about 12 when this song came out. Nash is a wonderful singer.. memories, thank you.
True natural talent like Nash keeps most of his voice into age. It's a sign of how much they always had in the tank I think.
Wou, I'd never head of this guy. Fantastic music, I feel like I've been loosing out.
Oh my gosh yes!!! first song and I'm hooked. So, so good.
Did not know he was with Hollys. This song takes me back to my childhood. Just takes me back. lovely
The best video I’ve watched on CZcams today. Thank you, NPR.
So beautiful:) 24 and so thankful my mom raised me to love this beautiful music
Hope my 9 yr daughter will say the same about her mama and daddy when she's 24. 😉
"Everyone I've ever loved has been some kind of test"
Killer line.
Also true...for ALL of us.
It’s been raining in the North of England for a while so we get called a rainy city here in Manchester.Bus stops and umbrellas are useful connections if sharing is your thing. The Hollies we part of our thing in the 60/70’s….so imagine a surprise to find a transforming Graham Nash appear in a close harmony group along with two Americans .Hooked interest immediately and part of my thing since then.Thank you ,grateful.
Great songwriting, storytelling and melodies, Graham is amazing.
Thank you, Graham, your voice is as beautiful and distinctive as ever. God bless.
In Christ,
MA
Two chaps, two guitars and stories told in song. Simple genius and centuries old. Priceless
A True Legend , great stuff
Excellent Graham and Shane:)
