    Also when you use the grinding compound you will notice on the video when he cleaned it the valve had a line bout in the middle of the valve angle. That is a good sign that the valves are seated good to go ahead n put them in. I haven't been in the small engines in 20ty some yr's n my lil son is turning 8 and I went n got about 6 engine's one of them a Tecumseh 8hp that is supp already built with a lot of compression, piston, cam, lifters, valve's, rod already changed with a 1 inch shaft. I didn't know till recently they had fuel injection for these n I have seen some put turbo's on some. I would like to see a video like this one that starts to finish with it, some are using the mega squirt with some briggs, but I haven't found too much info on them. But great video!!

    if you put a camp in one of these engines I have seen on the dynocams website that it is recommended you to weld the lifter bore. Is this necessary if you don't plan running the engine at high rpms?

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 7 lety

      depends on the cam. High lift, aggressive ramp cams put a lot of load on the valve train. A mild cam like the 94ss doesn't. Its more about durability and longevity than 'necessary'

    or what are the ways by which we can increase our compression ratio?

    • @KartFab

      +Satyam Priyam Roy changing the connecting rod won't change stroke. Changing crank will. Increase compression by: Boeing larger, bigger piston, deck block, mill head, thinner head gasket.

  • @kcraig51
    @kcraig51 Před 7 lety

    Lapping valves only works at startup. Correctly done valves and seats have a 1° difference on the angles at ambient temp. At operating temperature the heat difference between the valve and seat causes them to expand differently, taking up the 1° difference.

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 7 lety

      Hmm, you are probably right. But id rather hand lap valves that are all buggered up and pitted, than take it to a machinist that will charge who knows what.

    I have a sigma 212 and put on a stage 1kit on IT and I fell air coming out some whare near the carburetor I do not now why and the kit only gave me 2 more miles per hour is this right or do I need to do something

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 6 lety

      the engine's flywheel has a fan on it, so when the engine is running, it blows air over the engine,so you should be feeling air coming out all over the place when its running. Stage 1 kit only gives you more flow, which gives you more power (NOT RPM INCREASE). If you want to achieve higher rpms after the stage 1 mods, you need to remove the governor, and install heavier valve springs, and possibly a billet connecting rod to support those RPMS with proper oiling.

      Do a bit of searching. Id check extra carefully for any sort of indicaiton or marking on the cam and crank gear. Worst case scenario, you would need to get a cheap degree wheel (or even print one yourself and stick it on the crank), then look at when the lobes are letting the valves open and close in relation to TDC. Good luck

      +Jarred Random so here is what I know: the dirk bike slide type carbs work the best. A 22 mm mikuni slide carb is good for the 212cc predator, and the 32mm is good for the Honda gx390. Measure the intake valve and go 2mm less in diameter for the Venturi size of the carb. Mikuni and PW are good ones to go for. Not sure about walboro but they are used s lot as well.

      @KartFab  Před 7 lety +2

      I second that. However, assembly lube wont drain off the parts as easily, so if you wait a long time between assembling the engine and starting it up, that could be a problem. Assembly lube (or even break in oil) has special additives that will protect your cam lobes during break in. So moral of the story? Unless you are getting a high lift cam with an aggressive ramp, and heavy valve springs, you probably don't even need assembly lube. One trick some people do is they use their regular/stock valve springs during break in (2000 rpms for about 20 mins) , then swap to the heavy valve springs and dual valve springs, then change the oil.

It will kick back on you if you don't pull hard and don't pull to compression. Just yank it HARD. If you still get kickback, consider installing a snowmobile handle for pull start so it wont hurt if it kicks back. If you still get kick-back, you need to go to the gym and not pull it like a sissy :-)

      I still dont understand how your valve would be hitting the spark plug, unless you put in the wrong spark plug, modified the head somehow (stock gasket, not milled?). Or put in a different cam that caused the valve to lift higher. If i were you, id pull the sparkplug and check it against the users manual. Some spark plugs are longer than stock, and fit in the hole, so i would suspect this to be a likely cause if no other changes were made.

      I don't think so. You can always advance timing 2-4 degrees,, put a dirt bike carb that has a venturi that is within 1-3mm of the intake valve diameter, and do a high flow exhaust. Internals, probably not.

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 6 lety +1

      well, there are a few ways. Most people get a flywheel puller check your flywheel for threaded holes, (i actually use a harmonic dampener puller from autozone free tool rental) its the one where you can thread it in from three spots. Then pull your flywheel. A lot of engine places sell "timing keys" which are just keys that have had a tiny bit of the key shaved off. That is the quick and dirty way. If you want to be LEGIT, you get yourself a timing light for about $35, and a piston stop, and a degree wheel, and you measure what your timing is set to after measuring top dead center. Typical timing is about 22-25 degrees before top dead center, and advancing the timing about 4 degrees is plenty. You also might want to check the dimensions of your valve springs, you dont want to float the valves. You might see if you can get some heavier valve springs.

      that cam is for extremely high rpms, so the lower rpms (you know the ones you will be usually in when on a mini bike or go kart) will suffer greatly, again, I would only go with a cam that has a target max rpm of 6-7k tops, the lower the max rpm of the cam *(typically) the less torque you lose. Just my 2 cents.

      why would you get that carb? Its for methanol, and its just a standard carb. If you are going to be going with a higher rpm cam, and you arent trying to pass tech for racing, then you should be looking at a dirt bike carb (like a mikuni 22 mm carb) you will need to figure out jetting and whatnot. Speaking from my limited experience, though, you really would need some good tuning skills for methanol. Gas is a lot easier to tune.

      empty all the gas out of the tank, clean the tank out, clean the fuel line out, and clean out your carburetor. When you give an engine full throttle and it dies, it will run with the choke on, doesn't go fast, and backfires..... those are all symptoms of running lean (which is almost always caused by a dirty carburetor).

      @KartFab  Před 8 lety

      had to search for the comment just barely. I cant get to all comments, but i just read it and addressed it. Yes i will be doing a live axle go kart build video, and will actually be converting the one wheel drive go kart that I built for the free plans kart into a live axle go kart. Basically you need to get a live axle kit, and weld on the axle hangars (there are two of them), then the axle bolts right up to the hangars and you secure everything else with lock washers etc. The other things I can see as problems are 1)adjusting brake location, possibly welding on a brake caliper bracket 2) engine position may need to be adjusted 3) steering not as sensitive with live axle. So with all that said, you are going to need to weld pr get someone to weld it for you to make the conversion happen.

      ok so i looked into it. Top ring should be chrome faced. You can tell the difference between top ring and second ring as the second ring should be black faced. Top ring should have a 90 degree (flat) surface that mates against the bore. The second compression ring (black faced) should have a slight angle on the edge that mates against the bore, the edge that touches the bore should be down (e.g, when installed the bottom edge of the ring touches bore. Check out the factory service manual for a honda gx200 (thats where I pulled the info).
