Also, even though it might feel sad that the judges are being harder and taking away points for every single little thing, itâs actually better. Itâs because if the judges consistently take away every single error, no matter how big or how small, they are able to more accurately rank the best routines, best gymnasts, teams, etc. when a judge judges very hard and is consistent with taking off as many errors as possible, it eliminates bias. The whole point of judging is the rank the routine/gymnastics in order of best to worst as accurately as possible. People think that gymnastics is about getting perfect scores, but what it really is about is out scoring every other competitor (which seems like the same thing, but itâs not)
What if there are 9 judgeâs instead of 3 but they can only deduct points if 3 of them write the same thing, meaning you canât deduct points if only a single person saw it.
There are two sets of judges. One set adds up how much difficulty was done. The other set adds up the form deductions. They have their own shorthand and now computers too. It wouldn't be possible for one person to do a thorough job.
Itâs like baseball, the old 65 year old umpires canât actually see where the ball is going. They just guess, nobody can actually access this in real time, they just guess lmao.
This isn't a diss against gymnastics but I think this shows why parkour and tricking are gaining more popularity. They're just focused on doing what looks cool and entertaining rather than trying to make something look perfect, to the point, its indiscernible to the general public
I would argue it's also helped by how much you can branch parkour into - hiking, running, trail running, climbing, gymnastics can all be something you can branch into, while you don't see many gymnasts become great parkour...ers? Or climbers etc while we're seeing parkour experts push dynamic Bouldering farther than almost anyone short of Chrispy Shawarma in the 90's. Gymnastics seems to just stay as gymnastics while other spots interact a lot more.

Scoring a 10 when they score out of a 10 like in Levels 1-10 & college womenâs gymnastics is possible still - as weâve seen this season. But to score a perfect score with open scoring is very hard because it requires perfect execution score which no one has achieved a 10.0 execution score. Simone came close in US Nationals I believe but even she got deducted a tenth of a point.

And posted the 10. The gym ERUPTED. The only perfect score I ever witnessed.

I do TNT( Trampoline and Tumbling gymnastics) and I finished my round off triple back handspring, and saluted to the double mini judges, not the floor ones.

All of the previous perfect 10's from the Olympics "Mary Lou," "Nadia," "Milosovici" and the rest actually had errors. In one routine, you will see several low landings, leg separation, hops and the rest. They used to overlook those things.

My question: are the judges capable of doing any of these stunts. Genuinely. And Iâm not a gymnast and I know they have to be picky but I canât fathom the control you have to have to do all these skills only to get .5 of a point taken off for your legs being apart 1 inch.
Can judges re-watch the performance on video in slow motion or something before giving their score? I mean, no matter how experienced they are, there's no way they catch at what angle the legs where at any time or how far an athlete was off the axis or whatever they are rating.
it's actually pretty easy to spot those things when you watch it from the right position even for casual viewers, let alone for trained judges with decades of experience.

Iâve seen compulsories (level 1 - 5) get 10.00 all the time I believe the judges are so much more strict the higher level you go

10 isnt even a max score in D1 compulsories. But yes you can get a max score because there generally is only 1 judge that may miss things.
