All I remember was the ad for the PS1 game...I remember waking up at 5AM sometimes and watching DBZ. It was a different version than what was on Toonami.
Man I loved this show. My favorite show as a kid (I still have the soundtrack and listen to it). I reached out to both the voice actor for Kongo as well as the lead singer for the theme song and neither have any idea why the show was canceled. Just sucks because this was a really good show.
I've had the lyric "One day, out on his own" stuck in my head for over 20 years - and I'd never seen a second of this show until I looked up this video. I heard one commercial, *ONCE*.
I could never understand the lyrics way back in 1998 when dinosaurs still ruled the Earth. So I googled them, and at some point in the last 30 years someone figured the out and transcribed them. There seems to be an extra verse too? When you monkey around, Good and evil are bound Came from out of this world Magic monkey unfurl One heart beating in stone One starts learning from zero One day out on his own Magic monkey my hero Monkey Magic Come on monkey Monkey Magic Come on monkey Come on monkey Monkey magic right now When I see you again I will call you my friend Came from out of this world Magic monkey unfurl One heart beating in stone One starts learning from zero One day out on his own Magic monkey my hero Monkey Magic Come on monkey Monkey Magic Come on monkey Come on monkey Monkey magic right now One heart beating in stone One starts learning from zero One day out on his own Magic monkey my hero Monkey Magic Come on monkey Monkey Magic Come on monkey Come on monkey Monkey magic right now Monkey magic right now
I will always associate this show with vanilla ice cream, it was a treat my parents only occasionally bought that I only really had on weekends which is when this show aired. Tuned in, got my ice cream and enjoyed a morning that didn't involve being bussed to a child's prison called School. The funny thing is, this was on right when Dragonball Z was getting big, the Ocean group dub was what was on Toonami and some of the guys from there did the voices for this show. I remember flipping out when I heard Vegeta's voice coming from one of the characters and I think Piccolo's voice actor at the time too.
The vanilla ice cream comparison is spot on. It's another one of those brief, flash in the pan moments where its "I'm a kid, and I'm happy just to enjoy life as it happens." as opposed to very straight-forward: -This show is epic! -My LIFE IS EPIC and everything is PERFECT. The show was great, not necessarily epic. Even seemingly-epic, first-string quality and very long lifespan shows are not perfect and one of the main, best things about life is actually the memories of when the past was technically better than it really was and one should keep striving for their best in life and to at least get ongoing kicks off of having at least tried for better moments and not to get stuck in your own B.S. Yeah, I just double checked how long it lasted (at least the U.S.A. - English dub,) ONE season amounting to a horrible, mere 13 episodes! No wonder why I BARELY remember it! F-sakes. ...also, school is only as bad as the kid somehow figuring it somehow needs to be. lol.
I remember enjoying this as a kid, but I'm kinda shocked they just stopped making it. Ended on a cliffhanger if I remember correctly... I'm also shocked to learn that it wasn't made in the US either.

This came from an old 70’s Japanese tv show also called monkey magic with live action actors playing the characters in the 80’s and 90’s Australia had the dub of it but us American kids got the anime version in 98
@_ pobert-eii _ yeah. I mean, it was a fun game, for its time, but still. Although, I never was able to get past the second level, if I remember correctly.
@@masterag4068 Apparently, not just to you, my friend!!! Trust me, this is also a serious toe-tapping, headbanger if ever I heard one! And it makes my ears very happy, indeed! 😉
I've had this song in my head for a long long time man I'm so old I was in middle school when this came out.
I remember watching this in 98, it came on 6:30am on sunday!
All I remember was the ad for the PS1 game...I remember waking up at 5AM sometimes and watching DBZ. It was a different version than what was on Toonami.
It was on around 10 : 00 on Saturdays or Sundays for me too. I was in Lake Havasu, AZ at the time.
I remember getting up so early to watch!!!
My god, those were the days.
Indeed good times that are surely missed. This creates nostalgia for sure!!
Still loving this in 2019.. a mighty blast from the past.
Same here in 2021 my friend. I even bought the soundtrack. This song has more than 1 verse!

This is the first time i listened to this song again after 20+ years
OMG, this was the first version of Journey to the West that I saw when I was just a 4 or 5-year-old kid. So nostalgic!
Maaan I used to watch this right after OG Dragonball at like 5 in the morning

Lol I cannot have one unique life experience
This song has been in my head since late 90s. I'm surprised I remembered it so well.
Brings back some memories, as well as this awesome theme song that will stay in your head until the day you die! Lol
Dude, I never even watched this but I distinctly remember the slappin intro theme 12/10.

I'm here because my favorite audiobook, He who fights with monsters, brought me here. I remember watching this when I was younger.
This is one of those fever dream shows for me. Glad to see it was actually real.
Good old 1998. I remember this coming on every weekend morning about 6

I came back here after hearing Kageyama Shien said the word Monkey Magic when playing Dark Deception. Very nostalgic.

What is this?
And why does this song slap so hard?
So This Is Basically Sun Wukong
Is it bad that I thought Alakazam the Great was Monkey Magic? (like the older version of this cool series?)
This was based on the same orgin story as Dragonball.
childhood
Yall my brother said I made this up but I TOLD YOU
Yeah I love dragon ball
I love ut
When I was little, I use to confuse this with Dragon Ball.
Thats cause its a clone of Dragonball. They wanted top use the hype in the late 90s :)
😭😭😭😭детство
This game was weird...
The theme song did not age well, honestly.
Nah it’s great. Well at least to me that is.
MasterAG406 that’s understandable. Not gonna rage over a difference in opinion, lol.
I think it's amazing

Still feels like a knock off of Dragon Ball 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ especially with the dragon looking just like Shenron
Dragon Ball Plagio 😆
Terrible intro
@BuddhaBot, well this show was based of the story called Journey To The West and Dragon Ball was inspired by Journey To The West so...
