Corbin Carroll is Sophomore Slumping... Here's Why!

  • Corbin Carroll broke out as one of the young superstars in MLB last year, but 2024 has been a disaster so far. Carroll was the NL ROY, an All Star, and helped lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to the World Series in his first full season last year, so expectations were high for 2024. But he's had a frigid start to this season, and that's because now that pitchers have seen him for a full year, they've found a hole in Carroll's swing. In this video we'll talk about the adjustment pitchers have made to shut Corbin down, and what he needs to do to adjust back and get back on track.

    Lmao in mlb the show if u throw him up high and in fastballs he can’t hit it bc his swing is too long, who would have known it was so realistiv

      I'm not buying that. No way he goes an entire MLB season and the pitchers never noticed his swing was too long. That guy was MVP caliber so he received extra scouting and extra attention from game planners to prevent him from beating teams.

    He’ll work through it. I don’t know enough to know what it is so I at least I’m praying as a dbacks fan he does. But you can tell his slow start has been bugging him and he’s been working at it. He also plays every night and Torey moved him towards the bottom of the line up, he got his groove slightly, then was batting lead off again so the faith is there. Great hitters figure it out and he’s got the work ethic to get through it. We just need his bat to have some consistency because between him, Gurriel, Suarez, and Gabi’s struggles we cannot fabricate runs like last year

      Yea and if the whole team keeps struggling then they’re definitely not going to make the playoffs but hey not every team always makes the playoffs but some teams just get really lucky and make it twice!

      This is an epic drop off. It really makes you wonder if he was using PEDs. He's not the only one. Several players around the league have shown a similar type of decline. The excuse that he just isn't hitting the fastball doesn't make sense. Nobody makes it the majors if they can't hit a fastball. The real question is why has his plate discipline deteriorated or why has he not been able to catch up to them? PEDs work by improving your vision and your speed/ power. He seems to have declined in all of these departments. The Diamondbacks are on MLB TV tonight and he's not even playing. That's not good. I'm not a Diamondbacks fan but I wondered how he could hit so many homers last year even though he's so small. I don't know if he's using or used to but his decline is suspect. With so many other players (See Bo Bichette of the Blue Jays) experiencing the same thing it seems as if the MLB shut down a major source of PEDs and instead of going public with it they just kept it on the DL as not to destroy the rep of the game. For whatever reason baseball seems to get treated more harshly when their players use PEDs compared to other sports.

      @@user-tg8xx1qw6h lol interesting, that definitely took a turn to left field I was not expecting PED claims💀💀. I’d be pretty shocked if there was some merit to the argument. Sophomore slumps happen and for Corbin I think last year he profited from playing on a team under the radar and could catch some people by surprise. A big difference I’ve noticed is last year he swung on the first pitch a lot and it was generally meatballs. He struggled going deep into counts, this year the first pitch stays inside, which he’s always struggled with, and leads to 1 pitch fly outs or he goes deep into the count and struggles which I pin to experience. Hes piecing it back together though. Also he’s only missed 2 games this year and we have an afternoon game tomorrow so he’ll be back in the lineup

    He's never really been the same since the shoulder injury last June. He was cleared by the Medical staff the next day to play. But he winced a # of times in games after that. He did not look the same, Carroll did not elaborate at all on the injury, nor did the coaching staff. But his confidence seemed shaken pretty much the rest of the 2023 season. Played well, but he was getting OB via the Walk, sacrifice etc a lot to keep his avg from dropping like a rock. He's got to open up as a Player. likely this is who he is, but i suspect he'll be more open to what's wrong not only to himself, but to the Media, and even Staff as he gets on his career and matures. AZ Fans sure hope so.

    I read an article that his exit velocity is down 10mph on average from last year. Putting him in the bottom 3% of hitters in MLB. Thats terrible.

    His swing has changed from last year. He’s not staying back on his swing. That’s causing him to pop up and not get hard contact. Maybe his shoulder is bothering him or he’s worried about it. That’s the main reason for his struggles

  • @timboslice8928
    @timboslice8928 Před měsícem

    Look at his swing in 2024 instead of keeping his bats straight with his arm, he is leveling the bat behind the ball. the best way to describe it is his arm and the bat almost have a hockey stick look to it

  • @mssbball
    @mssbball Před měsícem

    Part of it is also because he’s short and umps call balls above the zone for him strikes. He got a ton of called strikes above the zone last year so he’s probably trying to compensate for that but it’s obviously gone too far

    Honestly like he’s my favorite player and seeing him do this bad after a really good season kinda upsets me I like I know sophomore slump and every thing but it hurts me and it would hurt him if I said this to him but right now he’s kinda bad (Corbin if your read this don’t take any offense I still believe in you😁👍)

    I love Corbin but I hate his swing the only way I can describe it is flat I know it’s not a bad swing obviously he won rookie of the year last year but I’ve always hated the way it looks and I knew it would lead to a lot weak ground balls when pitchers figured it out. He just needs to tweak it a little bit and he should be back to normal

  • @eddie-nk4jk

    His swing mechanics are poor; I predicted this demise. Swings with one hand, swing does not have batspeed , instead its strictly driving with a stride and one hand on bat LOL. As soon as he lost a bit of batspeed its over for him unless he drastically changes his mechanics and that could take quite a while. His injury likely effects this and is even caused by the one hand swing stressing the shoulder. Also he has a lot of meaningless jitterbug movement. MLB requires simplification, less is more. Look at Volpe in his rookie year and now, much less movement and better hitter.
