  • Ep. 23 of Gun Table Talk. In today’s episode, I will be going over another iconic weapon of the Civil War the 1842 Springfield Musket (smoothbore). I will be going over a brief history of this particular musket and some of the wars that it was used in all the way leading up to the Civil War. This particular musket was a major game changer as you started to see flintlock muskets convert into the percussion system. With the upgraded lock system It saw great usage even for traditional military tactics. This reproduction was made by Chiappa (Italy) and imported by Traditions.
I do not consider myself a historian, so if you feel like I got something incorrect or left something out please let me know in the comments down below. This video will not be demonstrating the loading and firing sequence that will be for a range video later down the road.
Thank you so much for watching!👍🏻

A soldier had no say in what arm he used they were issued and that is what he got . That being said Some Regiment commanders preferred smooth bore muskets over rifled musket but by mid war the smooth bore was a behind the line arm ( prison guards and home guard units ) especially in the Union army
