    it is an idea to place a rubber bumper against the wall where the feed mixer is located. Then the feed mixer can be positioned closer to the wall without damage, making it easier for the loader to load.

    Very interesting watching load ingredients. Notice they very precisely allow just the right amount of each ingredient to drop into the loader.
    Thanks for the great video. Appreciate you took the time and effort to show so much detail.

      It's important to be accurate with each ingredient, our guys do a good job putting the right amount of each feed into the mixer. Thanks for watching!

    You should think about a push off bucket much more persistent and easier on the loader

    Excellent video, feeding must be almost a full-time job by the time you've also moved feed from the bunks and opened bales.
    Your farm is a credit to you and your team.

    interesting how all the cows are so quiet while they are eating. Just 1or 2 were mooing. I watch videos from other farms where they are always very noisy (maybe they are complaining because they don't like the food ...)

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před rokem +1

      I've thought about trying that, but we need the mix time to size the baleage. We could only premix 4 ingredients because the rest is wet feed, we might get a little more accurate but I don't think it would save us much time.

    Do you ever add water to any rations, and do you ever feed unusual byproducts such as candy etc? I saw one dairy that was feeding skittles, I assume they were rejected

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před rokem +1

      We don't add water, we get moisture in the mix from the silage, baleage, wet distillers and beet pulp we feed. We don't feed anything too unusual.

  • @r.scotthill3082
    @r.scotthill3082 Před rokem

    Why the aversion to feeding shelled corn to the high groups? Don't you need the energy? Have you ever thought of going to a self propelled TMR mixer? less travelling, more accurate measuring, less wasted feed, less overall time feeding???

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před rokem

      We feed earlage to our high production pens instead of dry corn. Earlage is more economical for us. I like the simplicity of a pull type mixer, very little that can break. A tractor can be changed out quickly if it has issues. I don't think there are any self-propelled mixers that are similar size to our mixer available yet.

  • @bertjordens9666
    @bertjordens9666 Před rokem

    how do you adjust the rations when there is to much left-over? Especially when its a rainy day, your corn and alfaalfa will be much wetter. If you change then procentially the dry products are changed to unnessecary.

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před rokem

      Each pen is adjusted individually if they have too much or not enough feed left over in the morning. If it rains, it's up to the feeder to over feed the silage to compensate for the added water.

    Why don't you use concrete bunkers ?

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před 5 měsíci

      I prefer drive over piles for silage, I think we have less spoilage and can do a good job packing the entire pile. At some point, I'd like to have bunkers for our smaller earlage piles.

    Why is the ground corn not used in the Milking cows but in the Close Up and Fresh pens?

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před rokem

      In the high production pens we feed earlage instead of ground corn. Earlage is a little more economical for us. Ground corn is more consistent so we feed that to the close up and fresh pens to keep those rations very consistent.
