Really good tutorial. Skates came today and I found the balance after 15 minutes riding slightly downhill with your words in mind. Pumping is next to go. ^^
These skates are awesome.
So awesome, congrats! 👏 Definitely check out our pumping tutorial: czcams.com/video/l1_xDF97Gvg/video.html Good luck! 🤘
Can you go fast with it or use them to go to school or something ?
@@lonelyberg1808 you can, you just have to learn how to pump, drop and stuff
@@maximxdd1635 oh ok thanks
First off.. that transition between the legs was clean af, and those skates look awesome.
I remember looking for a tutorial ~4 years ago, and I could not find instructions nearly as clear, clean, and straightforward as this. Thanks.
You're very welcome!
I have watched 20 tutorials and this is the only one that worked
That’s sweet, happy to help! Keep going and don’t be afraid to reach out 🤙🏼

Next video : how to ride on the hands
Hahaha, maybe someday!
There’s definitely a world record for “longest distance Freeskated in the handstand position
I just got a pair of these skates and it took a few days, but I can get myself going from a standstill, and ride around the block for a short time, still have to build up the muscles for this. The best advice I can give to others learning is, to not try too hard. trying to force the movements gave me a ton of bad habits to start with.
thanks for the video.... I bought Freeskates 7 years ago, but could never get to grips with them?! I will try again using your tips!!
Really clear tutorial for the beginners ! 👍
PS : I love the special bag for the skates 😆
Noëmie LACROIX Thank you! The shoulder bag was released very recently - Awesome feedback so far 🙌🏼
@@jmkride where could I get the bag
@@SchnellRYT It's on our shop. Link in the description. 🤙
@@jmkride awesome, thanks
Thanks for the tutorial! Can’t wait to try my new skates out!!
I already know how to ride but watching this, the tip about the toes together/toes apart for steering, I never thought about that for sterring! I will try that out next time I ride, I may have been doing it already without thinking about it
ditto!
Thanks jeff.
Yes definitely we will roll with u!
I tripped over a freeskate video on Instagram and two hours later was buying a pair from you guys. I haven't so much as been on a bike in ten years but I'm excited to start.
Awesome! You're in the right place to learn. We have an entire library dedicated to getting you riding.
This video is amazing, thank you for making this! Fifth day almost got it!
Great video. Thanks.
Simple and easy tutorial, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Discovered this existed TODAY. Just ordered a set from your website. So hyped!!!
🔥🔥 You're in for a journey man. Happy to have you along for the ride 😎
Can you guys do a video about slowing down or stopping? I feel kinda stupid asking this but really the only way i can stop on freeskates is by bailing and eating concrete.
Devin Papp-Rhodes We already made that video! It’s called How to Freeskate Downhill.
Thanks, Jeff💜
I just got mine today and I can definitely tell it puts a strain on muscles you don’t usually use
Totally! You will build them up
Just got my first pair of skates ! Tried them out earlier and damn, the learning curve sure is steeeeep. Totally enjoying it and the small achievements along the way though! Can't wait for the day that I'll have the skills to ride a round around the block!
Yes! Trust the process and know you are doing great! Small achievable goals and you will surely get it
Can’t wait to get started
Very helpful!!! Now i know how to teach others in a better and clearly way 💚 please bring up more tutorials! I would specially love to see how to make some tricks 🤙🏼
We love hearing that Yazmin! Thanks for the feedback, more tutorials coming soon.

Hello @JMKRIDE! Your video is really good! I learned freelineskating some months ago but what I really want to learn is how to ride with only one skate (only on one leg(?)). Could you make a tutorial?
I hope you'll read this and you'll understan. My English is a little bit trashy.
Excellent video 👋🏿
Thank you! 🤗
Thank you
He makes it look easy
Nice & Thanks :)
Was very helpful😄
Happy to help! ☺️
I'm so glad!
Having prior experience riding a ripstik pretty exceptionally, but no experience with something like a skateboard..would picking up free skating be a smooth transition with my experience of maneuvering on the ripstik? Planning to buy a pair of these within the next day or so, just curious of how much i should mentally prepare myself or focus on certain techniques. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏽
I'm on day 1. This is very helpful!
You got this!
I got a pair of some cheap skates off of amazon (not jmk) and I was wondering what the cardboard spacer was on these jmks and if that was something that is needed for these? does there need to be a slight gap between the plates and the trucks in order for these to work effectively or do i just need more practice lol. Thank you in advance!
Can you guys make a video on how to start on an uphill incline and how to skate uphill.
Wow this helped so much got a pair today my only problem is right when I get on the skates I just start turning
Nice tutorial
Juan Sánchez Thanks Juan!
so i got mine today and after about 5 minutes of trying them out by holding onto the back of a pickup truck my lower back began to hurt lol that experience was on and off. what does ring true is the muscle workout on the legs Jeff mentions. i feel like this is gonna be an experience similar to the one i had with the Skatecycle where it took me like 10 hrs to finally be able to ride the thing. that thing is a workout too lol
So cool guy, very good video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
I want one so bad, it looks so funnn
It is!
Awesome
great tutorial.
i`m curious how fast u can go with theses? Can you even go uphill? Are they usable for daily work route?
You can go pretty fast on both flat and downhill - they were designed for downhill riding.
You can definitely go uphill - check out our uphill video here: czcams.com/video/nqzmZK0Xj7c/video.html
As for commuting to work, also yes - Gabe, our videographer, used to use them for his daily commute to work. Check out this video, all about transportation on freeskates: czcams.com/video/bmii2g4JluA/video.html
Let us know if you have any other questions!
Is it important to use the right side to take off because i got used to left.
BTW im use to do snakeboard thats why
hey dude, thanks for the clear instructions! i practiced for about an hour today and went from being unable to balance to being able to balance for four seconds. so i guess my question is, how can i improve my balance so i can ride for longer? thanks!
It just comes down to practice! Over the days, months, years, your balance and endurance will improve gradually. Sounds like you've improved quickly - keep going! Hit us up on Instagram if you have more questions, we'd love to help you out.
Just got my first pair of JMK’s ... it’s hard af😅 second day in. Just gotta get the hang of it
You got this!! Any luck?
Hello in Latvia freeskates!!)))

It's a really good tutorial thx
Next time maybe a 180 it 360 tutorial
wout Braeckman Happy to help! And alright, we’ll add that to the list.
I’m getting some in 2 weeks
I am new to freeskates and just recently got the sense of balance on them while going down a gentle slope. Just starting to learn pumping now and was wondering if it is ok to start by making small pumps first as I still can't find my balance if legs are spread out to wide. Is starting with small pumps ok or would I be setting myself up for failure by doing this?
You can definitely practice with smaller pumps. Balance is always key and will help with your pumping. Keep it up!
My free skates arrived today LET'S GOOOO
aye let's gooo!!
Really gotta pick those up again, I struggled when I tried to pump for the opposite side.
Here's a video on pumping if you're still interested: czcams.com/video/l1_xDF97Gvg/video.html
You might to call it drift skates too in Asia that’s what they might call it.
Take time and always look have safety in mind use all your senses.
Keep it up bro from down under now all I need is time. Oh stick to basics and don’t give up!
Can i use these on straigth roads?
When you live in Florida so there’s no downwards slope 😂
Sven Lima r.i.p
Well your driveway maybe, fl houses are built *elevated* lol
True!
I'm realizing I've been skating goofy. I recall trying the other way a few times and feeling discouraged. That learning curve takes patience!
Yup, takes patience for sure. Learning switch is almost always more difficult than the original direction... but it's entirely doable! Check out this video for some helpful tips: czcams.com/video/tJX8NQ2rnQc/video.html
Nothing Is wrong with goofy it's the same thing! Whoever named it that way is a hater, just don't push a skateboard mongo (with your back foot), that's a problem
Do you have any recommendations for a brand of skates that are good for beginners?
Ours are great for beginners and pros. Other models may be more cost efficient but don't ride like ours.
Today mine came and after 2,5 hours i did my first move (not down hill) little Pump slow but i did it! My left leg that is my main one is not flexy like right leg bc i ride waveboard for 4 years and i have been using mainly right leg to get speed so rn im bout to work on that
This tutorial is awesome finally good source on internet!
Update: this is my second day of riding those! I finally can ride for a while on flat surface
My pumps got bigger and speed increased. After 3 hours of practicing my legs feel like they are about to fall off
I'll try to update evry day or if i make a bigger progress
Update: this is my third day. Today i wasnt in school bc of my cough so i went on to practice
I cloudnt do anything more on my spot so i decided to ride
I was actually riding! I still have problem to start and i can't place my right leg properly idk why but if i start and finally have a good leg set
I can ride, the worst part is starting i cant really gain speed to do pumps :c, but if i do i can ride for a while.
After yerstday my legs feels like they are going to fall off. It's only 10 am so i think im gonna continue this day uptades on evening. But im pretty proud of myself and i will keep going untill i learn how to free skate. Im getting these wierd looks from ppl when im riding... Is it the same in America? Im from Poland and i dont think that there are many ppl riding those but i feel stressed while they look at me
(U probably got epilepsy reading this sorry)
Question I started to learn with some cheap free line skated is it Normal that my leg that's behind trying always to go further back so i rly need muscle strange to keep them both together?
Yes that can happen when learning. You will slowly build the muscles needed to keep your legs together more. The cheap skates will make it much harder, but it's still possible
I know how to balnce push and everything now but whenever im cruising my left thigh which is the behind leg always aches. Any tips how to reduce this or will this automatically go away?
Advice: Skate more! Yes, it will go away automatically. Just need to build the muscles
This would have been really useful for when i had barely started
I checked your website on where to buy freeskates. What is the difference between the classic wheels and the wheels you use? From what I've observed the wheels that you are using its kinda round but the available ones are kinda flat.
Classic wheels have a "square" profile. Some riders like them for certain tricks. Pro wheels are more "round" and generally have a smoother ride and are really good for certain tricks as well
Does it feel similar to riding a ripstick? Would getting proficient on a ripstick be a good stepping stone for someone who might be slow at learning this kind of thing? (I’m getting old 🤓🤪)
I haven’t skated on a board since I was a teen (22 years!) and I wasn’t good enough for it to all come back to me like “riding a bike” I guess. But this looks like a fun challenge that would help me get in shape and something to do with my 11 yo son. Just worried about it being TOO challenging and giving up too fast (for both of us. Adhd problems)
Hi! It has a similar learning curve to riding a bike. It's a super fun challenge. It's more like a snakeboard than a ripstik. We have many riders who have never skated before on anything that ride. It's so unique and fun you can start fresh with zero experience
Hi, how free skates fare upon facing irregularities on the ground, such as cracks, crevices, small obstacles, leaves, twigs, etc.
You definitely want to avoid those things if possible. If you have a good amount of speed, most small objects shouldn't be an issue. Large cracks should definitely be avoided.
I'm "goofy" and I realized that I cannot ride the opposite way. Which means I cannot ride with my left leg in from.😪 how to I fix this
@@JuanSanchez-oz3mw thanks for the advice👍 because that's how I started to learn the first time around. How it works again
That’s called riding switch. It’s a bit difficult at first, but it just takes practice! We’ll make a video on it at some point.
Can we ride them on rough surface
I love your chanel♥️♥️
As with most wheeled devices, smoother is better. But it can be done
I just got my skates. Are my feet supposed to be aligned with the foot pads (square with them) or with the wheels (so that standing naturally causes the wheels to be in a straight line all 4 in a row)?
Aligned with the foot pads. When you're rotating your toes together and apart to turn, you have more flexibility to rotate your feet apart than together, that's why the freeskate plates have a slight duck-footedness to them.
Where did you buy your freeline
After watching this video, I now know why I keep falling when I turn. Thanks for the amazing instructions
Happy to help!
Same great vid
I already know how to snakeboard, will this help me pick up free skating easier?
It definitely should! Snakeboarding is probably the most similar ride to freeskating.
I do inline skating and surfskating, is this kind of like a combination of both? I think I need some of these 😆
It's very unique, but carving is similar
@@jmkride I live in the UK and most surfaces are pretty gritty and rough, how do these do on that kind of surface?
So duckfeet and pigeon toed peop will always be turning
Imagine showing up to the skatepark with these bad boys. You'll be the coolest kid in town.
minds blown every time!
Are these skates available in India?
And can we use it like waveboard /ripstick
please email kyoki@jmkride.com
Can you put on your pads on your knee elbow and wrist
Yes you can.
How about when you're on a levelled surface. Can you just "pump" to propel forward?
Yes! You can pump to go up steep hills as well - It just takes practice. Here's a more detailed explanation on pumping: czcams.com/video/l1_xDF97Gvg/video.html
I’m trying my best to learn this with knockoffs I got for 30 bucks. But there’s no roundness to the wheels. I’m getting somewhere but I’m at a stand still because I can’t pump with the wheels. If I got your brand free skates, with a more rounded wheel would it be easier to learn?
Yes, the rounded wheels do help with fluidity, but the biggest difference will honestly be in the bearings. Knockoffs skates are very stiff in comparison, and the JMKs are notoriously easier to learn on as a result. They’ll also last longer in general.
Also, we do recommend using a slight decline to get you moving. Similar to riding a bike, momentum will make it easier to balance. Hope that helps!
Ok got it, and I have been using a slight decline so it really shows the bad quality of knock offs. Thanks for the advice
How do you jump curbs or cracks?
Thenk you so much i couldnt figer it out i was trying to ride it like a ripstick
No problem 👍 Glad it helped!
Out of all the skate styles, longboards, regular, ext, which is easiest for true beginners?
Longboard since you have more area under you for stability. We have tons of riders who have never ridden any other device though
I wanna buy these cause ive only used a crusier but scared i wont get the hang of it where and should i buy them?
We have many tutorials to help!
I'm having trouble getting going.. I used to snakeboard a fair bit, is it meant to be similar?
It is actually very similar to snakeboarding, yes. What are you having trouble with specifically?
I love FreeSkates, and it it’s my dream to learn them. Though there is one past incident that I haven’t forgotten about and it’s been making me want to find out if I can sell my FreeSkates to someone. Here’s what happened. I was going to learn how to pump. I had somewhat learn how to balance so I wanted to test myself by going down a sorta 10 degree road. It was going well until, I fell. My leg hurt for days and I hit my head. Thankfully I didn’t hit it so hard or I would be saying this. Ever since that incident I haven’t touched my FreeSkates for about a month or two, and I don’t know what to do. My dad got me some equipment but I’m still scared of getting hurt. What should I do?
1) Make sure you have proper pads and helmet.
2) Take it slow. If you are going at an uncomfortable speed, you're likely trying to progress too quickly. Take your time, trust the process, and remember to step off early rather than hang on too long.
If you know, could you tell me more or less how long it would take to get me some custom freeskates? (I live in Italy)
They ship from Germany, so likely not long
What's that coloured grenn thing around the edge of the flat part?
Those are edge guards! You can learn more about them here 👉 czcams.com/video/0H2RjBKswUQ/video.html
it doesn't turn when I do toes in and toes out I got it set up the right way but both skates turn opposite directions what should I do and also it feels like forever but I still can't find my ballence
If u buy off brand free skates like from Amazon are they just as good or are they bad?
They are bad. Some are serviceable and you can learn the basics. But the wheels and bearings especially will hinder your progress.
@@jmkride thank u I’ll just get the ones from u guys
Right, now I want to buy a set... Can I find these in Greece?
joinmykrew.com
If i can ride waveboards, would it be easy to ride the skates? I'll get them to Christmas so they are already here.
They are similar but still very unique. We actually just made this vid: czcams.com/video/WyPlVDRKEFE/video.html
so helpful! but also stressful watchin this man just crouch down in the middle of an open street 😂😂
Haha don't worry, it's the end of a cul de sac that runs into the beach
I have question, is freeline skate easier than waveboard?
And is freeline skate faster than waveboard?
It's a little more difficult to lean with endless possibilities. Much faster than a waveboard
@@jmkride okok thanks 😊
If I'm right handed with foot goes down first?
Typically your left would be in front. However, many righties also ride goofy. So just see what works for you
I just started. But I'm confused: Strong food on the front or on the back? I'm right food but it feels better to have it on the front...
Whatever feels most natural to you - Do that! Myself, I put my dominant/strong foot in front, and there’s nothing wrong with that :) -Gabe
