Mello’s dub voice is actually spot on. David Hurwitz did a great job of capturing Mello’s aggression and short - tempered attitude.
Every voice actor was perfectly chosen its a miracle
I think Death Note's ending would have been epic if Near died & Mello returned in the final episode to confront Kira (Light) & Mikami.
Mello should have already written down his name in Death Note (before kidnapping Kiyomi Takada).
Mello to die couple days after the meeting date (between Light & Near).

I agree. I actually really like Mello, but yeah he does seem underrated. Especially seeing as how he plays a big part in the plot in the later half of the series, and he even worked with Near to bring down Kira in the end, too. Thanks for watching!

Underrated character
I agree. Oftentimes, we don't hear as much about Mello as some of the other characters, but I do really like Mello. He, Near, and Matt get so much more time in the manga, I wish they could have given us just as much time with these characters in the anime, too. Thanks for watching!

Both mello and near is really underated but once your understand why they won and why L didnt chose a successor its because L knew that the only way to beat Kira is when both of them work together and thats what happen they solve how the death note works, the shinigami and even made Light confess that he’s Kira so thats why i think L knew everything, even his death he escaped it so many times found a way to dodge it like a boss, but yeah Light still got him but in the end L knew all about it and he already made arrangements to it for not choosing a successor because like i said he knew that the only way to beat it is when near and mello work together

I love the idea of Mello and Near as representatives for chaos and order - and how they have to come together to catch Light.
Mello was very similar to L, except that he sometimes simply showed his human emotions. Sweet-loving, driven, passionate and intelligent. One of my favorite characters

Sure, in some ways Near was the perfect successor to L. He's methodical in the extreme and dead-pan most of the time. But Mello was also the perfect successor, more perfect in some ways. He took the case very personally, got involved physically, and even had L's same love for sweets. His actions and deductions were bold and necessary to solve the case, which is why he and L both died. In some ways, Mello followed in L's footsteps more.

I agree completely. Mello was the perfect successor to L. It’s not enough to be smart To win you need to act. If it weren’t for Mello’s initiative and aggressiveness to the Kira case, There’s a chance Light would’ve won in the end.
@@Matthew-jn4zm Not just "a chance", Near himself admits that if it wasn't for Mello's unexpected kidnapping of Takada, then Near and both the task force and SPK would have been killed in the warehouse and Kira would have won. I love the irony that Mello is the only reason Near survives.

Mello was smart, but his willingness to act what played an essential part in the defeat of Light Yagami, aka Kira. Even Near acknowledged in the end that he couldn't beat Light or surpass L without Mello's help.

More like being unable to sit in place for 2 seconds. It shows how extreme impulsiveness can ruin even the most calculated plans.

yes, and in the manga, siddoh helped Mello to kill US commandos which were sent by light, and the US president to kill Mello. These scenes are not in anime.
“But tell me, Yagami... you’ve never killed someone before, have you?” will always be one of my favourite lines from Mello. I can’t explain why but it just sounds so cool lol
It was even better because that was After Yagami told Light "from one murderer to another", he said it so convincingly
It's basically an understanding of human nature, someone who hasn't killed anyone before ofc would be reluctant to do so in that very moment.
I have to admit, Mello is gorgeous.

Just for the people who didn't notice this:
Lidner regularly informed Mello about Nears plans and the status of their investigation. After she told Mello about the plan to meet up with Kira himself and confront him, Mello was the only one to consider the fact that Kira might've seen through this plan and made his own preparations. Mello therefore came up with a plan to assure that Kira would be caught: He kidnapped Takada so that the second Kira would take action in form of getting the real notebook (Mikami went to the bank, ultimately leading to Gevanni discovering that the notebook has been exchanged). In this plan however, Mello was under an enormous risk of being killed, as it happened in the end. Thus, together Mello and Near were strong enough to capture Kira (with L's help of course).
I'm writing this because I feel like some people don't give the credit for that to Mello, but instead blame Mikami for his mistake.
its not that people didn't notice this, it's that the anime completely butchered it and it's much clearer whats actually going on in the manga
i still feel like his and Matt's characters were rushed, n that's coming from someone who read the manga, i felt so disappointed, but at the same time i understood why

Mello never intended to work with near, the issue was that he didnt have the infrastructure, a clean figure nor a proper team like near to expose kira in the end. Thats why when he kidnapped takada he said "This is the only thing that can be done" he knew ultimatley all of that would benefit near but it was the only thing that he could have done to contribute in the case in the end as he stated in that scene. Thats why in that scene when hes talking with linder he seems unhappy and down, since he knew that he had no choice but to do this and help near something that he never intended to.

Near was a hollow little man. Never persuaded by passion. Just kinda analyzing and making judgements like a machine. I see the value in logic and proper judgment but there is more to life than just a cold analytical wit
It's so cool how you can hear the change in his voice from when he was a kid to adult hood you can tell he was just on cusp of puberty and his voice was in the middle dropping but not quite there yet ahhh 🥰

Mello deserved way more screen time I loved him far to much it was like 2nd L death when he passed
Mello had a lot more time in the manga. In fact, Mello, Near, and even Matt too, had a bigger role in the manga. We were given much more time with Mello and Near. We saw and learned so much more about both of them. And Matt was seen actively helping Mello spy on the Task Force as well as spying on Mogi and Misa.The anime cut out so much of the second half of the manga. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, they should have given both Mello and Matt the same amount of screen time in the anime as they did in the manga. Both were given a much larger role in the manga. And Near is actually one of my favorite characters, but it's the same thing with him. I think more people would like him too if the anime showed Near as he's seen in the manga, as well. As much as I love the second half of the anime, they really left out a lot of manga material that I wish they would have included.

Actually Near was originally supposed to be named Mello and Mello was originally named Near. The names accidentally got switched in post-production. By then, it was too late for them to change it back for the manga. I believe the creators also ended feeling like it worked better this way as well. Thanks for watching!
Just realized that Mello eating chocolate is supposed to be a tribute to L. Since Near acts almost like L to a T, they needed a way for Mello to simulate L, so eating something sweet was the way to go.
It’s also noting that he chomps off the chocolate instead of carefully taking off a piece - his ruthless chaotic nature
There's a lot more traits Mello shares actually
- they both are skilled trap setters ( constantly throws Light off guard by doing things he didn't expect)
- they both have a similar lust for victory to satisfy their ego
- both do a lot of Christian references.
- in the manga they even walk like each other.
They were so post to be L’s sons when the manga was barely being written, but they changed it. That’s why they are so similar to L

@@RaheemToofaani I like Near and L, too. They're my 3rd and 4th favorites. Light is my least favorite, but a great character.
I freakin' love Matsuda! For one, he's the most relatable character in the show. Matsuda isn't the only one with character development, but he's one of the characters with the most and best character development. From when we first meet him in episode 2 until his epic scene in ep 37, he grows a lot as a character. He's also the only member of the Task Force that is able to see both sides of the Kira debate. He understands why some people support him, and how it is good for the world in terms of crime being reduced. Yet at the same time, he's a detective, and he wants to catch Kira. Not to mention, that he's just so innocent, cute, and funny. Honestly, some, (not all, but some), of the funniest lines or scenes come from Matsuda. Also, everyone treats him like an idiot, but he's actually a lot smarter than they give him credit for, and he proves it. He gets them a couple of big breaks in the case as well, especially during the Yotsuba arc, and he's the one to shoot Light and nearly kill him at the end. I loved Matsu from the beginning, but that made me love him even more, lol.
Matsuda is my #1 favorite character in the show. Aizawa is my 2nd favorite, then Near and L.

Ironically he was too much of a softie that it came back to bite him in the ass as a result.
Ironic because he is the most ruthless looking compared to N and L, when in fact they wouldn't have done that if they were in his place lol
He had nothing to lose and to live for either, he felt guilty because of Matt's death and Mello said himself that he didn't want to kill Soichiro, so he was carrying many crosses on his back.
He looked pretty depressed on his last talk with Lidner and he even wasn't eating chocolate anymore, unlike the other main characters he is just... human.
You could guess that he didn't wanted to live anymore and if his final action would ultimately bring down Light, he would take that chance and use it as a redemption for himself.
Did you expect Mello to know that she has a piece of the note in her bra?

Mello (Michael) is better rivel for Light, since he is pretty simmilar to him in his personlity and IQ (I would actually make mello a little smarter), and he represents everything that light hates, Mello sides with the underworld and Mafia and for the little we saw, he won't be pulling his fists when facing lights unlike Near and L who most likely enganged Light in a fair way without going to moral extreams. Mello doesn't have a moral compass, just like light and he would do anything to win.@@user-qg3nj1sv8j

L never let emotion cloud his judgement he just didn't have enough evidence plus the fact that everyone defended light

I used to really like Death Note when i was 10. I completely forgot about it though. The only thing i remembered about it was my pure hatred for Mello because my friend had a crush on him and i was jealous that she liked him and not me. Lol. This was 7 years ago.. This video sure brought back memories ! It was a ride. I did not remember a thing about this anime lmao

I just realized that had Mello hid his face, he probably would have never died.
for example after he found out that Soichiro had the ability to find out his true identity, he should have never taken off the helmet in the first place when kidnapping Takana. He shouldn't have trusted anyone..!
True but If he would’ve survived he probably would faced some serious jail time for all the crimes he committed.

@@rimadas1910 Well, Kidnapping Sayu is one of them lol. He also set up the plane hyjacking in ep 28 and not to mention he killed most of the SPK agents on Nears team with the Death Note.

If Mello was smart in the kidnapping he'd keep the helmet on and denied her request to cover herself while undressing. If I suspected she had anything that could kill me, I'd even giver the full course body cavity search. Behind the teeth, under the tongue. Absolute thoroughness. Then mello would have lived.
That makes sense, but he was sacrificing himself to help Near, so he expected to die. Thanks for watching!

Yea I know. Only reason he died was because he decided to be decent and let takada cover herself up. But in the end near had respect for Mello and admitted that he wouldn't have won without his help. Mello will always be remembered by the fans and near himself

The reason was because Mello's main goal wasnt to live but to capture Kira.
Light would have never written down Takada's name unless he was sure her kidnapper(Mello) was dead so he can cover up any relationship between Kira and her, and to destroy the pieces of the Note book which had Mello's name written on it.
By sacrificing himself Mello ensured Light would write down Takada's name so Light would have no idea that Mikami also wrote her name.
Mello is way better in the manga.Actually both Near and Mello are better in the manga

Overall Mello just feels like a wasted potential. He has a interesting personality but is mostly show as a irritated spoiled brat
Right? He was an emotionally driver terror but effective and thoughtful.
In the anime he just feels like a presumptuous angry child who's just a player because he's got a gun.

Similar to Near Mello was done dirty in the anime. I honestly was shocked by how much of his content from the manga was cut cause that content showed how important Mello was in taking Light down and he's a good character in his own right. Hell the fact that one of his cut moments involved him and Light having a tug of war with President of the US still blows my mind. Also helps he gets some more scenes with Matt and Linder who I'd love to see how her and Mello met cause they definitely have a history I wish they delved into more.
