I had never heard of David Nadien before TwoSet sent me down here to watch this performance. Man, have I missed out; it's been a while since a single performance made me tear up.
Me too
Same here
I teared up from that short snippet on Two Set … glad I wasn't the only one.
Not that I've ever really KNOWN his playing well, I was shocked to see that TwoSet video. I can't believe more people haven't heard OF him, if not heard him, because he did recordings of the Suzuki material. Because of this, I and many, many others have heard his name since we were children.
@@Stormy77 Same ;_;
My right ear is so envious of my left.
lol good one!
thank you for reminding me my headphones are on backwards
Truth!!
Oh, my right ear doesn't get any of this. Sad!
😂 this bothers me so much. And when the rest of the orchestra plucks the strings I mostly just hear it in the right
One of my most respected violinists. Only a handful of violinists nowaday have that kind of vintage soulful tone.
I would venture to say NO violinists today have that kind of vintage soulful tone
Monica Heifetz didn’t rush he just played fast. There’s a big difference
@@metroidfoosion73 I would have to agree.
In those days it was music first, performer second. Nowadays the focus seems to be performer first, music second. A reflection perhaps, of a generation brought up on social media and its focus on self.
@@romeovashishthviolin9384 Exactly. Heifetz's playing was *never* unrythmic. And he understood that rubato doesn't mean "ignore the score".
@@Monica-rv7go heifetz never rushed. ppl just couldn’t ever keep up 😉
3:43 Even Bernstein was moved by his ethereal performance
his speech was so eloquent. i could listen to him talk for hours
A great master of the golden age of violin playing. I miss old school artists like Mr. Nadien, who without distracting contortions, grimaces, and extraneous movements, are able to move my heart with their elegant, soulful, inimitable playing. Thank you for posting this video.

@@davidrosenman1889 Strange comment! Heifetz, Stern, Oistrakh, Menuhin, Elman and many others were Jewish. (As was Bernstein)
I don’t understand this “modern violinists make too many distracting movements and faces” thing. You don’t have to look at them.
This wasn't even the solo I was looking for, but once I began to hear it, I couldn't get away. In the end I realized that it wasn't the solo I was looking for, but it was the solo I needed.
, ja, absolut!
Rest in peace, Mr. Nadien.
Oh my god, I discovered this from you. :( I had been actually thinking if he was going to die soon, even this year, when I first heard of him. My fears came true... No matter though, he did live a life most people could only ever dream of.
Those FBI agents must have thought his impossible godly powers on the violin could be converted into dangerous powers that would inevitably pose the most dangerous threat to national security. Bastards.
what are you guys talking about ? what fbi ?
it's possible that these "agents" might've fought in Germany or in the Pacific against Japan.... God knows what they could've been through.....
@@JacquesLuu Sad Whoosh.
@@kaischrank Whoosh for me, too. Pllllzzzz plz explain! 😣
I fell in love with david nadien after watching twoset..
Now this is someone who can bow
he's the embodiment of the 'use more bow' saying
His right hand is too goooood
"You paid for the whole bow..."
Thought the same, I was watching his bowing the whole time and do not even play violin - but am interested in violin articulation.
@@nilsfrederking62 I just love how non show offy it is. So understated yet beautiful. His bow does not need to shout to be heard
surprised a lot of people are unaware of who he is. If you play the violin and grew up in the 90s in America, you probably studied from the Suzuki books as a beginner, and his recording was what I grew up with. Great to hear him do the real repertoire!!
Anyone here after Twoset's latest reccomendation?
🙋♀️
Yeess
Mee
Yes. I had never heard of David Nadien beforehand.
Yes! I look for a good swan lake and i hear this
The "Bravo as always, David Nadien" at the end actually made my eyes well up a bit
Elegant, classy.. a great concertmaster.
No, the greatest concertmaster, but even more, really one of the greatest artists. Listen to the tone, my dear fellows
The bow changes are so free!
Now that I have discovered David Nadien, he has become one of my favourite violinists. His playing is all the more moving because of the absence of extraneous movements, grimaces and other physical distractions.
Just pure, simple and extremely beautiful music. Exquisite.
Too bad that lyrical service to music is no longer in style..🙄😥
Thank you TwoSet for introducing us to this amazing virtuoso
It's a shame there aren't more recordings of him on YT
Good morning, they actually are more recordings in this current moment, maybe not before, but now they are recordings of David Naiden.
Is he the most underrated violinist of the 20th century or what?!!!
Heard his Ravel Habanera:immense.
This performance makes me flashback my whole life, since my childhood, how fun and adventurous it is, all ups and downs, how we meet new people, loosing loved ones, all sad and tears, laugh and joy, our journey as human beings. And after all, David Nadien performed it superbly wonderfull
I don’t know why, but I am addicted to this.
Anyone who can relate?
Me, I wish there were more recordings of him!
By far the best rendition of this piece I have ever heard
Yes.....
I don't think their are any violinists today who could play like that. It's a style from the past that has sadly been lost. I would gladly exchange the great players of the past, when Heifetz was king, with the players of today. The last player I heard play with this wonderful style was Erich Friedman, I've never heard such a sound in my life. That was at the Wigmore Hall in 1975.
Thank you for sharing this rare footage of David Nadien. What a privilege to have the opportunity to watch this.
Beautiful sound, vibrato, pitch, phrasing. I feel like I'm hearing great singing on the violin. This is a good recording to clean one's ears out after listening to the horrid Dicterow solo in Swan Lake (also on CZcams). Thanks for posting!
yes! i have the exact same thoughts! hearing this is like listening to some really beautiful singing. it's lovely.
JESUS S. Re " horrid dicterow solo swan lake " ...you really had me burst out laughing there...I hear you...two worlds apart ! The former being truly lyrical old world vs latter aggressive style
@@depdeponyon3545 czcams.com/video/3oaBRhH7iZo/video.html
Ahahahahha I went to listen to that recording right after this one and can't agree more... His consistency with the vibrato alongside the warm sound, precise rubato which DOES NOT mess up the tempo and beautiful phrasing are chef's kiss!
Although I do have to say that the modern interpretation of Black Swan Pas de Deux tends to fit the evil side of the Black Swan better, making a very harsh and aggressive sound... I guess it's just the modern interpretation, perhaps back in the days Black Swan used to be more charming and illusionary, for which a sweet, juicy sound works the best and adds more depth to the interpretation...
One of those who knows how to make an instrument truly *sing*
This is so amazing, coming from Twoset recommendation. I missed out for so long. The tone is so sweet and speaks, amazing.
His vibrato never stops!! I love it!
Loved working with you David. RIP to an authentic master.
He makes it look so darn effortless and he plays sooo intangibly good!
Thank you twoset, damn i cant believe that I missed out for so many years. RIP, Mr. Nadien. Amazing Violinist.
I am a trombone player, but this playing makes me a violin fan. pure music.
David Nadien is the very eye of elegance and dignity, in this marvelous performance. God, I miss the old school of everything.
Absolutely RAVISHING! Just dripping elegance and sadness.
His left didn't stop vibrating for a single moment throughout this piece. 👏👏 Incredible
I've listened to this numerous times, and every time seems like the first. There is a very interesting documentary about an hour long with David on CZcams.
True beauty is infinitely renewable.
I had never heard of him before. RIP, David Nadien (12 June 1926--29 May 2014). Such elegant and coolly precise--yet beautiful-- playing.
i cry along with his violin. such purity of soul! thank you TwoSet.
The most profound , intelligent and aristocratic playing I have ever heard!
Agreed.
always come back to this. thank you, thank you, thank you. so beautiful.
The musicality is off the charts here, he was absolutely incredible!
leaves me crying every time, so beautiful
I hit replay on this execution so many times I lost count. Every once in a while I have to come back to this.
P.s. the old nyphil violin section here sound like a youth orchestra compared to nowadays.
But God we don't have people like Nadien anymore. They don't make anymore this kind of sound
This is the most haunting piece of music I've ever heard. It almost feels like the violin is crying.... a gentle, soulful cry that captures every inch of your body. The first time I heard this piece, tears just started flowing. This man was SO talented!
I don't really listen to classical music, but this man really moved me today. There are tears in my eyes right now.
Bravo as always, David Nadien.
First musical performance to bring me to tears. Flawless.
The best Violinist I ever heard and never get tired listening on his playing. Thank you Sir David Nadien.
Bro i m not even a minuite in and im crying why does the violin sound like its weeping
I love this guy's shmaltz... could listen to him all day
:-/ I never heard of David Nadien...
But this performance is very gorgeous, awesome.
Very clear and elegant...
From his violin, I know what is the beauty.
This was the first time classical music playing has made me teary 🥺💖 It's so sweet and beautiful and simple...
His bow control is so perfect, that it's nice to look at
He played so beautiful, so gentle, sweet and clear, the last time I really listened to classical music was years ago but I was really touched by this and nearly crying.
Fantastic player, RIP David Nadien
the tone of his playing is just so clear and emotional it makes me wanna cry
He is probably the most unknown great violinist of the 20th century. He had Heifetz like chops. He went off to do studio work because it paid more. True story.
Every time I go back to this recording, I am in awe of Nadien's intonation!! What a talent!
Jan 8th, 2021. Thank you, CZcams, for recommending, and to Mr. Kurganov, for sharing.
I could listen to this forever...
Damn, I almost forgot to watch it today.
I know close to nothing about classical music, but his playing gives me full body chills.
david nadien does that sometimes
So smooth, like silk.
i think Swan Lake may be one of my favorite Tchaikovsky scores it's just so.... heart rending.
Not only marvellously accurate but also a tasteful interpretation. No exaggerated emotion.
He played with our Seattle Youth Symphony a few times back in the 70's. A live Brahms Violin Concerto. It's on ytbe.
Flawless, noble rendition.
thank you twoset for presenting me new beautiful music
beautiful..twoset get me here
RIP David Nadien. You were AMAZING!
Bravissimo!!!!
Twoset brought me here and I didn't disappoint at all 😭
lol I've been listening to/watching this video frequently since a few months back (coming from TwoSet like many others) but I JUST realized it was your channel--thank you for making this lovely footage available to the world!!
I like that image of the violin solo of David Nadien being a pas de deux with the orchestra.
such vulnerable vibrato and gorgeous and exquisite singing! Lenny grunted at 2:43.
Viendolo desde Mendoza en cuarentena... Tremendo violinista..
3:05 am de un miércoles
oooh so beautiful! came here after 2set rec. wow
HE USES THE E N T I R E. B O W. WITHOUT LOSING TONE AT ALL...
That is insane!!!
Maravilla absoluta! Manos, sonido, afináción perfectas!!!!
Unbelievably beautiful rendition of a highest caliber !!!)-so grateful for your upload!
The oscillation!!!
May such music be heard by only pure souls. Amen.
I especially like the distinction you make about music making along with everything else you said. There are so many examples of my own musical taste that are just like that: I am aware that emotional urgency (and or other elements) are "over the top" but I am still swept away by it. I listened again to Nadien's interpretation in which I now sense a profound sensuality among other things. There's a lot to the way he does it. It's just so different than what I had become use to. Thanks!
My left ear really enjoyed that solo!
Amazing playing! Added bonus was having Gregory Peck in the orchestra 0:12
Superb.
I want this at my funeral...
琴聲悠揚、滑順細緻的演奏!
Smooth violin music
This is a real gem!
A special sweet sound from a lost era
I can sense the image of the black swan, deceiving the prince in this performance❤
So beautiful I'm crying QAQ
i happened to found this a few years ago, and I started learning Violin :) Thank you Mr. Nadien.
Totally exquisite!
Thank you so much for sharing.
RIP Mo.David Nadien ~
His Violin has some kind of british style.
The bridge is also pretty flat, nearly like a fiddle. Its absolutly perfect for his playing at 2:29
one of the best performances of the century!
Sono affezionata a questo balletto........ Grazie......!
-Complimenti!!-
fantastic! what an elegant taste!
Is this what you hear in heaven?
