ABOUT THE GREAT
EMMY® NOMINATED The Great is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest reigning female ruler in Russia's history. A fictionalized, fun and anachronistic story of an idealistic, romantic young girl, who arrives in Russia for an arranged marriage to the mercurial Emperor Peter. Hoping for love and sunshine, she finds instead a dangerous, depraved, backward world that she resolves to change. All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military and get the court onside. A very modern story about the past which encompasses the many roles she played over her lifetime as lover, teacher, ruler, friend, and fighter. Incorporating historical facts occasionally, the series stars Elle Fanning as Catherine, Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow.

As Catherine becomes more ruthless/strict, her outfits becomes more and more extravagant. Just like the real Catherine
I agree. I also think her clothes look distinctly more French, maybe implying she is getting more extreme with her Western European ideals.

I agree, the fact they have black people in Tsarist Russia I feel is a huge inaccuracy, but then I remember it's a satire and the actors still do a good job, so I'm good with the inaccuracies, plus there will always be inaccuracies in a historic drama.

« historically inaccurate » but historical fantasy. The fact that they’re using a famous historical figure is just to grasp viewers attention.
This is one of those shows that truly deserve to have more than one seasons. Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult are absolutely brilliant in portraying their roles. It’s like their characters are genuinely well suited for them.
The show has two seasons already, and the second one ruined the show
Still on season 1 but judging from the trailer it feels like the story won’t progress much. Seems like she still has the same goal she had since episode 2

@@3xl783 I think just the opposite. Count Orlo has been turned into a nothing of a character because he's brown, and Peter is still alive -- for no good reason -- because he's white and people love to love white men on screen.
This is a brilliant show. The writing, the costumes, the acting.
Very few shows make me laugh out loud the way The Great does

But Nicholas Holt is greatly underestimated, because he perfectly gets used to his roles
I freaking love Elle as Catherine. She’s so entertaining. The entire cast is top notch in their roles. So happy Hulu brought this series back

It’s because there’s no logical reason to explain him remaining other than they want the popular actor. From a story perspective, it makes zero sense and utterly weakens Catherine as a character. They can be historically inaccurate and not ruin the strongest female character in the show and turn her into a sexist stereotype

It should have been cancelled. They ruined Catherine as a character in the end of season 2. She will never truly feel like the fierce and powerful leader she’s meant to be after being totally humiliated by Peter

This show is honestly really enjoyable. Ever since i randomly stumbled upon Season 1 its been a fun and crude watch. The chemistry is amazing with the characters and it actually makes me laugh quite hard at times. Inaccurate or not its a very GREAT show 😂
