- How to paint a Holiday pet portrait -the black lab with Suzanne Barrett Jutsis
‘Tis the season, as they say and for me as a professional artist, this is my busy time painting lots of pet portraits. In this video, I will be painting the portrait of a sweet black Labrador named Marlow for the Geasa family in TX.
As you watch this time lapsed painting demonstration, I will take you from start to finish on this black lab’s portrait. First, I will do a thin wash of paint consisting mainly of paint thinner and then do a wipe out, creating the form of the dog on the substrate. Once I am satisfied with the wipe out, I will then do a value study using only dioxazine Purple. I will then begin to load layers of paint till I eventually arrive at the fine detail work.

The Domed Eclipse Filbert I was using can be found on this link....it's a wonderful little brush, great for both application and blending.

I also used several of the Eclipse long Filberts of various sizes, you can find them here

I used to have a dog that was a black lab, and this really represents a real dog portrait so I think this can help me with a reference of how to draw my dog
