    This is the best Elvis ever voice wise. He was incredible on these sessions.

    It's a beautiful set. I spent 2 nights plowing through it when it was 1st released! Elvis' voice is AMAZING on these recordings. This time in his career was great not only because he was healthy and inspired, but the songs he was recording explored his entire range of talent; the world was truly his oyster! Pre British Invasion American Rock N' Roll at it's finest.

      Absolutely! I just wish he could have somehow recorded more songs in this era, but that's probably a bit greedy, lol

    From memory, Red West also supplied some lyrics for Plantation Rock, though he did not get a songwriting credit.

      I think the story is that Red West and Charlie Hodge originally submitted a track called "We're Gonna Have a Good Time" for Girls! Girls! Girls! Elvis then asked for part of the lyrics to be used and adapted [presumably for the bridge section] for "Plantation Rock".

    This is my favourite "Sessions" release so far ( although I don't own them all just yet ) a remarkable set, glad John mentioned "Suspicion" and "She's Not You" both well known songs of which I will never tire of and thanks to Jamie for all the inside information. As a drummer I can honestly say it's quite difficult to play along with another drummer unless you have rules about who's going to hold the beat and who's going to play the fills if both try it normally becomes a mess so well done D.J and Buddy! as always thanks for the video.

      Thank you so much - and you're very welcome! Looking back at how they blended, DJ was generally the "beat" drummer with Buddy on brushes or fills. A pretty amazing combo, for sure!

    A great sessions chaps, I just wish they would have done the following year 1963s the lost album sessions in the same way as the previous three years studio albums! I’m sitting here at home in UK, awaiting the Blue Hawaii box set to be delivered…can’t wait! cheers guys!

      Hi, Mal! They did collect the 63/64 session material ("Devil In Disguise Sessions") but do you mean by placing the songs with their movie soundtrack sessions?

    Wow guys your conversations on the music of Elvis just gets better and better I could listen to both of you for hours on end . I do not have these sessions and was wondering how much better are the masters compared to the 1993 masters From Nashville to Memphis box set BMG/RCA. ? I was also amused by the whole Ed Sheeran plagiarism case Thinking out loud does not make me think of Let’s Get It on and I think the right verdict was handed down . But I just wondered what the estates of Red Foley / Arthur Willis - Old Shep 1935 think of Just For Old Times Sake by Roy Bennett/Sid Tepper 1962 ? from of course That fantastic album Pot Luck many thanks John and Jamie your the best cheers Carl .

      @EAPSociety  Před rokem +2

      Hi, Carl! Thank you so much, so glad you're enjoying them! I'd say these are a lot better than the 60s masters, honestly. That set has some sonic issues (all of the masters boxes has, though the 70s is the best of them, imo). And that's a very good question on those two songs, I honestly never thought about it until now!

      @@EAPSociety Thank you for your reply I must get the Pot Luck sessions and what is amazing about sessions is sometimes another take turns out to be even better than the master . l love some of the early takes on From Elvis In Memphis or if it is a live recording sometimes it can be a preferred different arrangement and vocal performance. I think my favourite version of The Next Step Is Love is from opening night at the international 1970 it has a great feel and slightly different arrangement to the studio versions thank you Carl .

Because alot of us ELVIS fans can't afford the FTD releases, just one every once in awhile because we are on a fixed income ( Disability or social security ) so while it's fun to watch your videos, sometimes wish you would do videos on his after death releases from RCA/Sony and LEGACY. Right? It's just such a great picture - and I do agree on the original mostly, though all I see is Toby Kwimper, which (imo, anyway) doesn't work as well for Elvis as himself. 😁

    Another great set and a fine album of strong material. That said, after seeing this, I must ask again why 'Little Sister/Marie's the Name' wasn't on the SFE sessions? They were recorded in Jun of '61, just a couple months after the SFE album sessions and nearly a full year before Pot Luck. Also, the Legacy edition of SFE and the FTD edition both have those two there. Where am I going wrong? lol

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  Před rokem +2

      Actually, I have a good answer for this now: since "Kiss Me Quick," "I'm Yours," and "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" are in this session and are on the "Pot Luck" album, they'd have to split the session up to move it to "Something For Everybody" - and since there aren't any songs from SFE in that session, it's just easier to place them in the "Pot Luck Sessions".

    • @MisterMasterShafter1
      @MisterMasterShafter1 Před rokem +2

      @@EAPSociety - For some reason I was only thinking of the two cuts I mentioned being done in Jun '61, but they could've put all five on SFE sessions. I'm just really curious about this, not tryin to be a wiseguy. lol. Would eliminate a disc also from the large PL set Jamie mentioned.

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  Před rokem +2

      It's all good, I totally understand the thinking - it can be weird when things get reshuffled from how we're used to seeing them - especially given the time difference you correctly point out. (this is Jamie, btw 😁) But if they did that, then people would ask why 3 songs from "Pot Luck" are not on the "Pot Luck Sessions," especially since the two songs weren't on the original "Something For Everybody" album.
      What's going to be interesting is how they tackle the 1969 sessions, since I wouldn't want the songs split up between "From Elvis In Memphis" and "Back In Memphis" - or crazier yet, the 1971 sessions and how many albums that entails, lol.. At that point, I hope they just go by session dates and call it a night. 😁

    • @MisterMasterShafter1
      @MisterMasterShafter1 Před rokem +2

      @@EAPSociety - Your point is well taken too! It's indeed all good. This is why we're here! Your other point about the '69, '71 and you could add the '73 sessions, which stretch all the way to the Promised Land album in '75, if I'm not mistaken. 😄That'll be ten disc sets like you said.

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  Před rokem +2

      Yep, absolutely! And you're right, the 73 sessions and the 76 sessions fit that same thing, too! I say bring those ten discs on! 🤣🤣
      Seriously, though, they should just say (for instance) "December 1973" etc, just to keep the sessions together. That way, they can delve into those songs deeper in the notes and artifacts. I honestly wouldn't mind booklets of just the documentation on full pages so we can really go through it all.

  • @Cpayne30
    @Cpayne30 Před rokem +1

    After watching this video, I went and bought this. I've enjoyed it immensely - the sound is perfect and there's a lot of great takes to be found. A couple of things I would like to mention: Would it have hurt them to put Steppin Out of Line on disc 1? It's weird to have all the album tracks except one. Something for Everybody Sessions has I Slipped... twice, so Steppin' would be fine here. Yes it isn't from the sessions, but since the set is called Pot Luck, it should have all of PL on it. I was also slightly disappointed that some takes fade out but I guess they had to pair it down to 5 discs somehow.

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  Před rokem +1

      Cool - so glad you're enjoying the release! On the fades, some of those are actually on the original tapes, iirc, so there's not more audio to be had, sadly. On "Steppin' Out Of Line," I definitely understand the frustration, though they'll be putting those on the "Blue Hawaii Sessions" set, so having them here would be too much duplication.

    • @Cpayne30
      @Cpayne30 Před rokem +1

      @@EAPSociety I wasn't aware that the fades were on the tapes- that certainly explains a lot. I wouldn't want the full Steppin' session on here, just the master take in the album order. Because in a weird way, its omission doesn't allow the set to be definitive (IMO, the goal for the series)....whereas the classic album has it. It's not a big thing, but it's something they should consider.
      Unrelated question, but I wanted to see what you think of the cover for the upcoming How Great Thou Art set....I love that photo, but I think it needs some more text!! Looks a little weird being just the picture and "2-disc set."

    • @EAPSociety
      @EAPSociety  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I can understand that - I see why they didn't, but it is frustrating from a completion perspective (even if it will be on other things).
      On the cover, it's definitely sparse, but I honestly don’t think much about the covers until they arrive, lol - they could be in paper bags and I'd be fine with it as long as the CDs play with no issue, LOL

    • @Cpayne30
      @Cpayne30 Před rokem +1
