+DeltaNorth But... I never said this song was in Norwegian. Just that Norwegian sounds good with songs like this. Heck, I don't even know what language this song is in.
English lyrics, translated by yours truly: You can, if you want to No one can choose for you, they can only sow doubt There are so many paths to take Many goals that can be reached if you dare to believe that you have what it takes We all have doubts Questions about choices. Is this what you want? There are so many accounts to take in Many threads that pull in different directions The fear of missteps may black out everything We all have doubts But the most beautiful thing you have is a bright shining light and it resides within you A compass that brightens your night They know nothing They don't have answers, only you do There are so many paths to take Many goals that can be reached if you dare to believe that you have all that it takes We all have doubts But the most beautiful thing you have is a bright shining light and it resides within you A compass that brightens your night Because the most beautiful thing you have is a bright shining light and it resides within you A compass that brightens your night
Merethe I am one of the 88 American Soldiers who stood against in excess of 1500 Russians at Checkpoint Charlie on October 27, 1961. We stood our ground, We had great commanders Colonel Wayne Winder and Captain Norman Schwarzkopf and Lieutenant Willson. We were told that there was a good chance we wold not survive the night but our deaths wold give you and other innocents the chance of living in a Democracy. I am so very proud and happy we stood our ground.
Here you go :) (Needless to say it flows much better in the original language) English Translation: You can if you want No one can take your choice Just plant doubts There are so many ways to go Many goals that can be reached if you dare believe that you have what it takes We all have doubts Questions about choices Is this what you want There are so many considerations to take Many strings going opposite directions The fear of mistakes can black out everything We all have doubts But the most beautiful thing you have Is a light that shines brightly And that live inside of you A compass that lights up your night They know nothing They have no answers It is only you who have There are so many ways to go Many goals that can be reached if you dare believe that you have what it takes We all have doubts But the most beautiful thing you have Is a light that shines brightly And that live inside of you A compass that lights up your night But the most beautiful thing you've Is a light that shines brightly And that live inside of you A compass that lights up your night The Norwegian expressions sound a bit odd in English, but the song is about believing in yourself :)
Pasan Etternavn wow, I listened to the original version without the lyrics beforehand and felt like it was a song about believing in myself and pushing myself forward through tough times. And this version with the lyrics just so happens to confirm it

This has to be the true definition of music as a universal language right? Without being able to speak a word of the native language I was able to work out (pretty accurately) what this song is about just from the feeling of the music and the way the lyrics are being sung. Some songs just... touch you. Like you hear it and know that there's no other song that can touch you and reach your soul the same way. Call me crazy if you want to, but I've spent years listening to instrumental music by Two Steps from Hell, Ivan Torrent etc and I always had a feeling that there had to be another song, one I hadn't heard yet. I searched for it without even knowing what I exactly was looking for. Then, by pure accident, I found Compass through a Let's Play of Fallout 4 and I knew that this song is what I was searching for. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've heard so far. When it starts on my phone I have to stop doing anything else, close my eyes and *listen* . It's amazing.
Oh I really feel you. This music always touched me in a very different way, and I also cannot do anything but listen to this beauty when it is playing.
The Scandinavian languages are close to the Germanic languages, which also includes English. If you speak English you can glean some words derivations and see how they're actually remotely related.
Scandinavian languages ARE Germanic, North Germanic to be specific. The remaining living Germanic languages are West Germanic. And because I speak three of those West Germanic languages, it's not that hard to understand the others.
OMG - WOW , I’ve let this masterpiece from TSFH elude me for 7 years , Instead of me wondering how the hell could that happen , I instead get to listen to it for the first time - Oh the joy in my heart .
5 to 6 years ago, i heard the vocal and non vocal version of this song. Although they were not the first TSFH song that i heard, both of them is my favourite among TSFH’s song. During these years, when i was lost/no idea how to face the future, this song just like “compass”, gave me power and direction, even though i dun know the meaning of the lyrics. Music is so magic that, we dun need to know the meaning of the lyrics, just listen and you will feel it. Thank you TSFH, really enriched my life and mental
For some reason this song makes me think of walking through a forest during mid-late fall. Smelling the smell of burning fire wood and feeling the breeze. I honestly use this to help me be at peace and fall asleep.
What guides us across the mountains and valleys in our lives? What gives us that little voice in the back of our heads? It seems like there's something telling us to follow it, even though we don't know where we'll end up. You may find yourself asking: "What am I following?" or "What's my destiny?" or "How do I get there?" The answer lies in your actions. It's a destination that you have a great desire to reach, but it's getting there that's the tough part. There's always something trying to keep you from pursuing that destination and trying to get you lost. Sometimes, you may find yourself lost, exhausted, or frustrated, but why should that keep you from reaching that goal? "Why should that hinder me?" "Is it just a dream?" "Am I really supposed to achieve it?" Only you can decide that. Don't let your questions stop you from running your journey. Pursuing the unknown is what can get you to your destiny just in time to meet it. Don't let the mistakes of the past distract you from what lies ahead, because looking back at the past will only make you stumble on the obstacles ahead. You cannot take your eyes off the destination you want to reach. What you learn from the past is important, but preparation for the unknown is what will allow you to get there. So brush off that dirt you stumbled into! Save the questions for when you reach that destination! Follow the *Compass* of your heart. Let it guide you to your destiny!

@@hugocounio5943 For your information I am french and I mentioned mistakes because I based the translation on the english lyrics, not the norwegian ones. Il me semble que Kompass c'est plus pour "boussole". Ca devient compass en anglais mais c'est boussole en français. Après c'est un détail, le travail est cool
This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I love the lyrics, especially because they fit perfectly in this Scandinavian language. It is the first and probably the last song that made me smile so much. I know Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix are actually gods. I really miss the love button... So I just wanted to say amazingly performant, perfectly magnificent and excellently miraculous are incredible understatements.
My most favorite song from Merethe Soltvedt! I usually listen to it, on repeat, while driving across a mountainous region of Colorado, usually Boulder, Blue Mountain, and Genesee. The song just fits with the mountainous regions for some reason!

this song gives so much power even if im feeling horrible sometimes and feeling weakness into my body and mind this actually resets it and let me think of the positive side i love it
I played this while reading the last few chapters of my favorite manga. If this was already mind-blowing, it now has a totally different meaning for me. Thank you for creating such a piece of art.
I can't believe I just heard the normal song (without singer) so many times and I totally missed this one... listening this song without the singer was already powerful for me, I felt what the lyrics where saying but just without her, and when I found this one, with the singer and lyrics, made it infinitely powerful... I started crying right away after reading the lyrics... I was feeling what the lyrics were saying without the singer... So powerful...
Listening to this i fell in love with my table, carpet, ceiling and that flower in the corner. Overhelmed with emotions, feeling like a knight in shiny armour kissing a princess..
I could listen to this voice singing all day. My wife is an excellent singer as well and I love listening to her sing. It is part of the happiness that she gives me. You also sang "Stay" and that song makes me think of my wife and brings tears of happiness to my eyes. Thank you for pursuing your gift and sharing it with the world.
Oh my God, Merethe, you'll kill me! Every song with your voice becomes a blessing straight from heaven! Funny thing is I don't even believe in God, Heaven or Hell. How crazy is that?!!
I hope TSFH does more tracks like this in the future. It's a good contrast to their normal epic trailer music that still feels very much written in their spirit.
Who cares what year and what language in this hybrid symphony, as long as it brings me apiece of peace and serenity in inner heart. That is the point. STF scraps this beautiful melody into her YT among a colossal stack of Thomas's books.:)......a music lover and collecter........................STF.....................
i think its best its not translated. yes i said that. ALL of you not understanding. It's about how it makes you feel. not about what they are saying what so ever. i have no clue what this beautiful voice is singing about. they are just are singing, nor do i ever want to understand the lyrics. I simply know; it makes me feel great :)
What tune, and very inspiring. If I didn't know better, I'd say the lyrics share an idealism with some forms of buddism, reaching into the self for answers serves the best purpose towards one's character! A lovely voice to deliver such a message.
What intrigues me more than how this song was composed to make it too beautiful to be true is which part of this song made those 41 people to give it a thumb-down!!!!!
My absolute favorite TSFH song. Thank you, Thomas and Merethe for thus beautiful song. It got me to start listening to your music a year and a half ago. Even though at first I had no idea what the lyrics to the song were at first, I understood the message instantly. Got me to look up the lyrics and explore TSFH music. And ever since, I've never looked back.
I can't understand a word she is singing but I get more emotion and understand the song better than most of the songs I actually can understand... and it feels freeking good ^^"
Lukas Hartl The whole song is in Norwegian. Its about believing in yourself to accomplish anything :) Im sure you can find the full lyrics here in the comments.
TSFH doesn't make you listen. It makes you feel.

Don't worry dad, I was excited too when I first heard it.
The language of my fore-fathers is surprisingly... Beautiful.
I think both versions of this are the most beautiful song that Two Steps have ever composed.
This is much better than the unsung version. This has so much more to it. The oter one was nice, but missed the certain force behind TSFH that I love.
midlifecrisi hates Google + Yeah, I actually prefer this version a bit. To the point that it's basically the "theme song" to this story I'm writing.
Till this day i had no idea that there is vocal version

La peur de l’erreur peut tout noircir
Nous avons tous des doutes
Mais la plus belle chose que tu a
Est une lumière qui brille
Et cette vie en toi

Est une lumière qui brille

I played this while reading the last few chapters of my favorite manga. If this was already mind-blowing, it now has a totally different meaning for me. Thank you for creating such a piece of art.
Which manga?

Amazing. Can't stop listening
Very nice... Touch my heart. Two steps from hell is really great.
this is the most motivatoinal euphoric energising and breathtaking song i have ever heard! chills down my spine
I burned this on a CD and the CD is now gold plated
+Kazuto Kirigaya oh please i bought the CD its GOD plated
just kidding i don't have money.
I tried duplicating your technique three years later. I pulled a pair of Kamina glasses out of my DVD burner.
I burned this song on a CD that was already gold plated now it’s diamond plated

I'm blown away time after time by the work of Thomas Bjergersen
This is so absolutely beautiful! It brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it!

Amazing. Can't stop listening, although I only understand the word 'compass' xD
So do I.
Absolutely divine.
Angel Voice.. Thanks Merethe.. One of my favourite..
THE MOST BEAUTIFULL SONG EVER.
Listening to this i fell in love with my table, carpet, ceiling and that flower in the corner. Overhelmed with emotions, feeling like a knight in shiny armour kissing a princess..
Good drug you got there, mind sharing some mate?
+Danial Akmal Hahahahah you killed me dude x)
+tricky sounds like you are high as fuck lol
Great music & amazing background! Thanks a lot. All thumbs up and thanks for sharing!👍
Simplesmente, divinal, esta melodia enche a alma de alegria. Maravilhoso. Bravo.
Quando sento questo brano svanisce l'attrazione terrestre, VOLO come un pensiero divino......
This made me want to learn Norwegian.
What a great music selection! Perfect for study, relaxation
My heart melted when I first heard this...
*starts bawling eyes out*
Oh my God, Merethe, you'll kill me!
The very first notes are enough to make me cry. It is the same everytime
Motto für eine ganze Generation: "Wir haben alle Zweifel"... Großartig!
I can no longer take pleasure in any music with less quality than this... perfect masterpiece.
I'm Thankful, I discovered this gem ❤
I don't know the language. Yet this song comforts my heart like no other song
A masterpiece!
Thanks Two Steps From Hell 🥰
It's in Norwegian, and agree, beautiful despite not understanding a word.
Jag älskar Two Steps from Hell
It would be awesome to hear norwegian language more often in your songs... it's soo beautiful! Love it! 3
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love Thomas Bergersen music since 2013.....Why cant I download such beautiful songs....
Listening to the this song especially the voice, gave me this feeling I've never felt before.
3:25 😢😢😢😢noooooooo❤❤❤ oh lord
Who cares what year and what language in this hybrid symphony, as long as it brings me apiece of peace and serenity in inner heart. That is the point. STF scraps this beautiful melody into her YT among a colossal stack of Thomas's books.:)......a music lover and collecter........................STF.....................
The second song that ever made me cry
so what's the first song?
+DarkLight22 My heart will go on, while watching titanic :p
Too unfortunate u dont watch anime, u'd cry like, at leas 10 times
Am i having a sore eyes or is the music that makes my tears run down my cheeks without reason!? Wonderful piece of work by tsfh.
i think its best its not translated. yes i said that. ALL of you not understanding. It's about how it makes you feel. not about what they are saying what so ever. i have no clue what this beautiful voice is singing about. they are just are singing, nor do i ever want to understand the lyrics. I simply know; it makes me feel great :)
Honestly,I couldn’t agree more.
You sure you don’t want me to tell you? I’m fluent in Norwegian.
@@luxborealis plz do tell
@@luxborealis I think im ready now.
Its beautiful song.
I always hear this song!!
What tune, and very inspiring. If I didn't know better, I'd say the lyrics share an idealism with some forms of buddism, reaching into the self for answers serves the best purpose towards one's character! A lovely voice to deliver such a message.
Beautiful song! Beautiful voice!
What intrigues me more than how this song was composed to make it too beautiful to be true is which part of this song made those 41 people to give it a thumb-down!!!!!
I guess these people are just almost soulless
Relaxing music from strong emotions
When I hear this song the earthly attraction vanishes, I FLY like a divine thought......
I get chills hearing this, good chills.
