What a bike she is!!! I truly enjoyed this R1200R. Like mentioned in the video I didn't really expect to ride this one... But Boooyyyy am I glad I did get the chance. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of riding literbikes on public roads I have to admit that the R 1200 R makes quite a lot of sense out there. I really dig those boxer engines. I love how this bike has massive amounts of power but still I never felt overwhelmed by it. I'd describe both its power output as well as the overall rideability as 'very manageable'. This machine offers quite the attractive compromise between long distance comfort and sportiness. You can ride this thing for the whole day and thanks to the rather relaxed seating position your body won't mind. And as soon as you feel like putting the hammer down the semi-active suspension, quickshifter PRO, and powerful brakes will easily let you do so. I can't say anything about it's actual ground clearance though. Like mentioned I stopped leaning further down as soon as the hero blobs scraped the tarmac. The day before I got into trouble for scraping the Multistrada's pegs and panniers and since I didn't want to risk more penalty payments I contained myself lean angle wise on the R1200 R. Up to the leans and speeds you see in the video the bike behaves very well mannered though. No nasty surprises. I'm fairly confident to say that it could take quite a bit more even without losing its shape too heavily.
Definitely try this one should you ever get the chance! And no, as you can see I was not smart enough to switch off the ABS. Is it possible to switch it off anyway?

This video is what convinced me to hold out until I could afford an R1200R and im so glad I did. It's such an amazing bike. My favourite by far (and my last bike was an s1000xr!)

Schaaf, as in the part 1, the sound even from stock is really nice, the adrenaline when I watch your videos just goes up with your riding and the roads man, I fucking love to ride on those roads.

You use too low gears.. The first gear of a boxer engine is only useful to start, believe me colleague! That kind of engine doesn't need to be kept at extreme rpm to go fast.. You can go faster if you keep the engine in the medium range.

I was shifting way before entering the red levels but apparently you are the expert. I'll try to adapt. Or wait, no, I won't. Because I enjoy the squeezing out way too much :)
I know you like the squeezing out way.. ;-) I drove an R1200R previous model for 40k km and I got some experience with the boxer engine, great engine!! However, you're definitely a better driver!
but of course it's also because I don't really know any bike other than my own CB. And the little CB needs the squeezing out. And it's hard letting go of this habit. Except for when on real powerful bikes haha
Yes I know.. Now I need to change my habit because I sold my R1200R for a KTM 1190 ADV, a completely different engine that maybe need to be squeezed out..

That was a very spirited ride and i loved it. As for 7:19 "I never skip". I loved the sound of the stock exhaust on this bike almost as much as the two triumph triples. I really enjoyed this video, peg scraping or not. As always Ride And Speed Safe.

Awesome video and awsum boxer sound. I got 2 questions for you, Schaaf: Would the r1200 be your favorite adv bike, or is it when compared to the others you've ridden? +RidinDutch Do you mean the R 1200 GS or this one, the R 1200 R ? :D Since you're asking here I'm guessing you mean the R1200R, right? I'd be happier with the more agile Multistrada. And the blurring happens because of legal reasons.

very nice ride, very nice video. i've already put 30k km in 2 yrs on a bike like this. one question, pls. did u adjust your preload or did you leave it on single rider setup ? setting it on rider plus pillion increases the bike clearance a lot. maybe handling too..
I left it on single rider. Especially because I'm very lightweight. Its ground clearance would be more than enough for my skill level if the hero blobs underneath the pegs would get removed! Thanks for the advice though

no false neutrals! I used the front brake only because this bike has linked brakes
That bike is awesome, but it looks to me, as all BMW's with R at the end, kinda aesthetically challenged, incomplete. Feels good to see a proper ride on a nice sunny day after freezing commute in this crappy weather.

WOW!!! You can ride that thing and what a lot of torque this bike has!!! I am in the market for a new bike and this one is on my list but also the new Yamaha Tracer 900 GT. Totally different bikes but both beautifull machines. Currently riding a BMW R1150RT but want something lighter and sportier. Aarrgggghh....I can't chose!!

this definitely is a fantastic compromise for quick riding and comfortable touring if you like those boxer engines. Every bike out of the sports touring section could be good for you too though

thank you! In my opinion it does take some fun away while adding some at the same time. It's more fun having to revmatch yourself because it makes the riding more challenging in general but the perfectly timed rev-matches coming from the blipper function just sound so damn awesome :D

Ich kann nur fahren, was der Bekanntenkreis hergibt, mich auch lässt, und was nicht mehr als 10.000€ wert ist. Die teureren Bikes (1200 GS, Multistrada, R 1200 R, XDiavel S) waren Ausnahmen, denn die kamen aus dem Highbike Testcenter und waren versicherte Leihmaschinen :) Aber sollte ich mir einen solchen Ausflug wieder leisten können, würde ich natürlich versuchen, eine der beiden zu ergattern ;)
Kann mich zwischen den Beiden einfach nicht entscheiden :D

Have you ever tested a superbike like the honda fireblade or the bmw s1000rr???
So far I never tried a big supersports out on the road. I've been on a big Fireblade and a Ninja already but only for 15 minutes each. I had some fun with the Daytona already though. Showed me that I'd probably wouldn't enjoy the big supersports out on the roads. Way too much unusable power.

A few friendly suggestions Schaaf. I think you should have 2 versions for each video if it's not too much to ask. One version with pure riding and no text interrupts. And a second versions with commentaries. I also find the sound each commentary makes quite annoying. I watch your videos purely for the ride experience and the immersion in the video is disturbed by the commentary and that clicking noise. But that is just me, and these are my preferences. Other than that I truly enjoy watching all your videos.

These captions are 90% of the total work needed for these RAWs and I thought people would appreciate my opinion since they often ask for it. Apparently only very few do. Man, I can really see how that could be a very dangerous road for a careless motorcyclist.....steep embankments, tons of trees , narrow road, bicyclists etc.... And roads like that, the shadows can play tricks on your mind and make you miss OR see things that aren't there.... Nice skill. In the U.S., that road would be littered with busted up bikes.....

Idealerweise und bestens verzögernd - spez. bergab - bremst man mit der R 1200R LC NUR mit der Vorderradbremse, sonst kommt das ABS außer Tritt, weil wg. der KombiBremse das Hinterrad schon (ziemlich optimiert) mitgebremst wird.
Ich habe NUR mit der Vorderradbremse gebremst.

I'm not harming the bike in any way besides scraping off the feelers underneath the pegs. A properly warmed up engine should never have any issues with higher revving.

Moc pěkná jízda. Trochu by mě děsilo to ABS. Taky mám R1200R (jen chazené olejem), ale ABS mi bere jen za deště, nebo kdy brzdím na štěrku. Když jezdím po okruhu a je sucho, tak se nikdy nezapne. Možná to je tím, že mám paralever a ty už ne.
S tím quickshiftem se jede o dost snadněji a rychleji. Já musím mačkat spojku. Už se mi stalo u podřazení, že se zadní kolo zaseklo a pak se motorka podemnou nepříjemně rozvlnila.

War ja so halb als Scherz gemeint, aber ich hatte das Gefühl du wärst noch schneller auf diesem Broken unterwegs als auf dem F800R und hast noch enger die Kurven geschnitten bzw bist noch näher an den Autos vorbei gezoomt. Aber sowie RJ sagte, du bist und bleibst King of the Mountains.
It’s a good but simple trick - always in a gear lower than required- not that fast but sounds like it is. Turn the sound off and see for yourself.

Schaaf aber irgendwie kommt es im Video rüber als ob der QS vor allem beim hochschalten sehr ruckartig arbeitet. Kannst du das bestätigen?
Das liegt mehr an meinen kompromisslosen Schaltzeitpunkten. Ich bin's von der schwachen 500er gewohnt, bzw. macht es mir enorm viel Spaß, richtig viel zu schalten. Und da knall ich den nächsten Gang dann auch gerne wo rein, wo es eig. kaum Sinn macht bzw. im Vorfeld schon klar ist, dass da ein Ruck durch's Bike gehen wird. Ob der Schaltautomat selbst ruckelig ist oder nicht, dazu hab ich zu wenig Vergleichswerte. Aber der Quickshifter auf der Daytona zB arbeitet deutlich geschmeidiger.

danke für den Hinweis mit der nicht-altersgerechten Einblendedauer der Text-Inserts. Ich les die Teile beim Erstellen eigentlich immer probe, aber meine festgestellte Lesegeschwindigkeit des selbst Verfassten dürfte nicht ganz aussagekräftig sein haha :D Ich versuch, mich in Zukunft anzupassen. Wobei die Inserts teilweise auch "dramaturgisch" getimed sind, da wird's dann schwerer. Aber, als Übergangstipp: Einmal Leertaste drücken pausiert das Video, der nächste Leertasten-Drücker setzt die Wiedergabe fort :D
Ich muss mich im November dann noch eine Runde auf die CB hauen, im Dezember ists Pickerl nämlich nimmer gültig! Danke für den Besuch!

@@Schaaf A big motorbike in frontal colision with a car, obiously its going to be worse for the biker... but i can garantee you that you will create injuries to the ocupants of the car and may be death if its an old car. So, you are not alone on the road, and no you are not taking risk for you only. That will be on the track. I mean i like your videos but some videos are little extrem for open road, and incoming trafic too, in roads that are on the middle of the forest, very dusty and trees, rocks... you never know whats on the next corner. Im not going to talk about what i work but my works say it all. We see it so often. Ride safe, like your videos, peace!!

You have a lot too learn about shifting gears?...puh...
obviously, I'm not very experienced. But it would be helpful to get constructive feedback as well.
Try not to downshift when you hit the rew limiter, thats why the backwheel somtimes get you in trouble.... even a slipperclutch cant take that shifting
the backwheel didn't get me in trouble a single moment in this video. It's literally impossible to downshift while being in the rev limiter. Any more decent advice?

Aber du fährst das Ding wie eine 4-Zylinder, immer zu hohe Drehzahlen und lastwechselnde Momente und das bergab!
Der Boxer kann das alles auch gleich schnell und viel geschmeidiger 1-2 Gänge höher und der Sound leidet in keiner Weise, im Gegenteil
Genau den Jaufenpass bin ich auch in 09/16 mit diesem Bike runterfeuert.
Danke für den Hinweis!! Ich denke aber trotzdem, dafür, dass ich mein gesamtes Leben lang nur eine CB500 pilotiert hab bzw. dies noch immer tue, da hab' ich mich gar nicht so ungeschickt angestellt, auf der komplett fremden und viel zu schweren 1000er :)
