  • In this video I hit the streets to show you just how smooth my sequentially fired fuel injection works with the factory siamese intake port head on my 292 Inline Six engine. Some said (and still say) it would never work.
    The engine is a 292 bored .040 over with Ross Pistons, and a Crowler Stage 2 roller cam (535/.541 Lift 213/222 Dur). The head has larger 1.94 and 1.60 valves with Comp Cams Beehive valve springs and Comp Cams roller rockers. ECU is a Holley Dominator. The TB is a Holley 1000cfm universal unit. The MSD dual sync distributor was customized with a new stem and reluctor wheel to make it work for a 6 cyl. MSD coils. LS3 42lb injectors fired sequentially (NO! It's not batch fired!)
    The transmission is a 4L60 with a Sonnax 2.84 first gear and 1.55 second gear. Shift kit and other billet or hardened pieces that aren't needed behind a little six. It's also running a Corvette stall converter (2050) because the engine likes a little bit of RPM with that cam in it.
    As of the making of this video the truck has been on the dyno twice. First video here - • GM 292 Inline 6 Tuning . After the second time with the tuner the final numbers TO THE BACK TIRE are 246 hp and 287 ft lbs. She's going back again next spring for some more tweaking. Probably won't make anymore power, just need to smooth out the cold start and a couple of other areas.

    I came back to this video as it's squarely a great example. Bought a '69 Chev truck with this motor package sitting stock and have a real thing going for the improvements. I was going to ask you upon the fuel injection before I realized you wrote up details in your description.
    Thanks for showing your excellent work! Man those are great #'s out the BACK. Fine stuff

      Thanks, I will. We would be good neighbors. Pete from Washington. I like that you stay humble on your work. These trucks are not especially heavy. Pavement power. The good 6 has a special body to it. Gotta have 1 to know about this.

    Well I certainly am impressed. I've been a Chevy 6 fan since I started driving in 1964. Owned quite a few stovebolts, both 216 and 235, as well as 194-230-250-292. Even had the oddball 215 version of that they put in small Pontiacs. They were such good stuff, smooth, enough torque, and reliability was a given.

      I appreciate that. Since this video was completed there have been some further changes. The intake ports are now divided and a much better tuner worked his magic on it. It has been a learning experience for sure, but we'll worth the time and effort.

    Really Nice truck, awsome work.
    I'm building a 292 too, for my 86 C10, here on Brazil we have a 12 ports Head, from our rebadge Holden, the chevy omega, with factory upgraded 250, engine stock with distribuitor less, sequential fuel injection.
    My engine will run with a Crower Solid Flat tappet Cam, 248 / 236 (0.050) 114 Lsa/ .585 .556 lift, 10:1 compression and a K27 turbocharger with 15 psi on 100% Ethanol... Really long time to built up, greatings from Brazil.

    That’s pretty awesome what you have accomplished, all you need now is to put a transmission in with a overdrive gear to get those rpm’s down to increase your mpg. She’s almost perfect.

    Who would go to the bother of being so crass as proclaiming that a piece of technology wouldn't "work" in some applications? Yes, I often get the uneducated commenting on the setup of my 292... Americans seem to have a weakness for big displacement V8's even when Offenhauser used to run four cylinder, turbocharged engines at Indy producing 1500 HP. Back in the 1960's. There's a video of a twin turbocharged 261 from the 1950's that exceeded 500 HP. The 292 can easily approach 400 HP with modest boost... and I've seen a admittedly well-built naturally aspirated Jeep 258 deliver 391 HP. They pulled all the parasitic load off but set up the engine like this gentleman's. Plenty of literature on how to drive inlines 6's well beyond their original design. How much money do you want to spend?

  • @johncooper9976

    How did you do the coil per cylinder? I have a 250 with a good cam, Ross pistons and offy. 600 holley, it better smoke tires and then some.

    nice build and video, I wanted to ask how to you like the efi system would you do it the same again.

    • @SquaredAwayGarage
      @SquaredAwayGarage  Před 10 měsíci

      Since this video of my driving was made, there have been some changes. The intake ports in the head have now been divided among other small details, and I found a competent tuner. If I was going to start from scratch again, I thing I might do something different with the cam and crank signal. What I have now is very compact, tidy and clean, but I think maybe there is room for improvement with more resolution (meaning instead of 6 teeth for crank position, have 36 or 42).

  • @aaronglendinning9265
    @aaronglendinning9265 Před rokem +1

    What distributor is that? I didn't think msd made a cam sync distributor for the 6?

    • @SquaredAwayGarage
      @SquaredAwayGarage  Před rokem +1

      You are correct. They do not. I started with a dual sync for a sbc. Custom reluctor wheel and stem. But MSD was nice enough to help me with some details to make it work.

    Is that a 250 water pump? Did not see the coolant bypass? I have my coolant bypass removed and reduced down and connected to a intake heater. Have a 3 core aluminum radiator and the electric fans hardly run.

    • @SquaredAwayGarage
      @SquaredAwayGarage  Před 7 měsíci

      That is a 250 water pump. Drilled the block for the bypass. With the fuel injection, I don't need to jeat my intake. I'm running a 4 core and can maintain 180 degrees in the middle of summer heat pretty easily.

  • @chadmiller2224
    @chadmiller2224 Před 10 měsíci

    I counted in my head and got your 0-60 at 6.5 sec give or take. Thats not bad at all for an old square body. That would smoke the 305 v8 trucks and probably most 350's on an 1/8th mile probably. Like I said I wasn't using a watch or anything, just the old " 1 one thousand, 2 one thousand" method. I saw a good looking 76 2wd on internet yesterday with a nice looking 250 I6 with a 4 barrel. Primer gray. Guy is only asking 6500 I believe , which sounds too cheap to me.

    • @SquaredAwayGarage
      @SquaredAwayGarage  Před 10 měsíci

      I can tell you for certain that my 87 TBI Silverado with a 350 in it only made an advertised 180-190 hp. This 292 would run circles around that 350. As far as price goes, all sorts of things factor in. Right now the biggest thing affecting price is that people are feeling the pinch on their wallets right now. The "toy" market is soft. There are a lot of nice old cars and trucks for sale right now, and not a lot of buyers.

    • @chadmiller2224
      @chadmiller2224 Před 10 měsíci

      @@SquaredAwayGarage you're right about feeling a pinch in the wallet. There is a mint condition early 80's model Buick Regal up road from me I'd love to have. But guy is asking to much in these difficult times. I told him I could agree with his price if it was a turbo Regal but not a regular one. But it is still a beautiful car with chrome spokes that almost blind you going by.
