- How to diagnose and repair an old motorcycle PT2 with a Honda CB750. I take you through the full diagnosis process in part 1 so now we get started on the repairs by removing the bad ignition components as well as the carbs for rebuild.
I use my ultrasonic cleaner and soda blaster to get the carbs back to new before reassembly and take care of other odds and ends throughout the bike as I go. Once running I sync the carbs, bleed the front brakes, and go for a quick spin only to find that there is another ignition issue yet to diag. Through more testing it is found that I had a major voltage drop through the kill switch which had very dirty contacts upon disassembly. A bit of cleaning and we are all set!

- I use a 30l unit like this one. Buy the biggest you can as it will quickly pay for itself. You will use it far more than you think! (amazon affiliate link where I get a small commission if you purchase)

- I run mine normally around 50c for non painted parts and 35-40c for painted stuff
- I have been using mean green cleaner found at many stores as it doesn't darken aluminum or oxidize. For my 30l tank I use a half gallon at a time along with a few lines of Dawn dish soap.

In 1971 I had some money for a motorcycle. Went to a dealership and found bikes in my 1300 dollar price range. There was a 500 Triumph scrambler and a Honda 750 on the showroom floor. In a fit of utter stupidity, I road off on the Triumph.
man i wish you lived in my town. My CB750 needs your lovin...

Respect for your diagnosis and fix-it skills. I'm a new (old) rider who values the restoration of what were basically fine machines that can still have a lot of life in them. Wishing you and your clients continued enjoyment of the process and the end product.
Thank you much! I think you will find all of my content pleasing in that regard as I try to really show a lot of repair specifics and tips/tricks.
@@BrickHouseBuilds I think so too, which is why i subscribed.
Mighty fine bike restoration . Love this stuff. I'm into new but old school is cool too. I had a 175 Scrambler about the yr. of this 750 .
I am glad I am not the only one with this mindset. If @BrickHouseBuilds did not have a channel, I do not think I could have taken on my 82 cb650sc project that i have. The whole honda community has been amazing.
Awesome upload once again. You could hear it come alive. I loved the real first start and not scripted start. This is how it really works. Thank you and sick skills sir.
I appreciate it! If you watch my channel you will know there is nothing scripted. I show the good and the bad
Just came across your channel and this bike... and what you did. Congrats!.. I got a 1971 candy gold ... FREE.. got it running 5 years ago.. and it sat 15 years prior. Can't believe the cb750 ... what a bike from back then!
Thanks for your expertise on this bike !
Thank ya Quinn!
My Dad bought a new candy garnet brown CB 750 K1 in June of '71. I was 13 and this bike was like a dream. The looks, sound and power had me mesmerized. I would stay in the garage for hours cleaning it. Right next door, the neighbor had a BSA 650 Lightning. The guy down the street had a '69 Rocket Three. They'd all take off on a Sunday morning and the sound from all 3 could be heard a mile away. For me , it was a wonderful time. Thanks for refreshing my memory!
Happy to help!
When these first came out I went to the Honda dealer to pick up a bike of my own and there was a brand new K1 sitting waiting for a mate of mine to pick it up. The dealer had just put ArmourAll on the seat. The guy turned up with a mate and they both jumped, took off like a mate thing, and the mate slid off the back seat and took out both of the rear indicators before they had even left the dealership. It sounded awesome and was so fast!
I bought a brand new 1970 CB750 K0 Candy Gold back when I was 17yo. 50 motorcycles later I now ride a 2021 Honda Goldwing tour DCT. I'm thinking I should buy an old CB750, but when I see all the work and expense in working on an old bike maybe I'll just watch videos like this.
There is nothing wrong with a nice reliable modern bike! I spend all my time working on stuff and zero of it riding so you are getting the better end of the deal!
Its lovely to get these old girls fired up, when they have not been going for a number of years.
Great to watch.
Thanks again Terri! This one sat since the 80s I guess which was much longer than I originally thought
Darn it I'm riding a new-to-me CX500 these days and now you make me want to pick up a CB750.
Can't go wrong with either!
Glad that break dragging on the test ride was easy to free up I'll remember that blader screw tip Thanks
It happened in a convenient spot for sure.
I have had good success with 14 gage copper house wire for the hard brake lines to push out the snot.
As a guy in his mid 20's with no bike experience who wants to ride a vintage motorcycle, these videos are incredibly helpful
Hey John thank you! Thats exactly the goal to show you that you can do this stuff. With a few tools and good info you can tackle a lot
Buy one! You only live once! ☺ 👍
Oh the memories. The sounds of that bike bring back many good memories. I had a 1977 Honda 750K twenty years ago. My bike had a Kerker 4 into 1 header and a larger jet kit. My bike really hauled. I never should have sold it…oh well.
I had a Kerker 4 into 1 on my '78 KZ1000 too. Just a great sound! It was really satisfying until I had to do my first oil change and that header blocked the drain plug. I believe Kerker implemented a 'swoop' in later years to get around the plug.
After all these yrs. I still have my 75 750F. Just finished her 4th from the ground up rebuild. Rocking 1015cc and a 4-valve head with Tracy designs body work wearing candy red paint. My Girl!!!
Excellent, feels nice when u bring to life back one of those babies…👍
Thank ya! I definitely love doing it!
Thanks for taking us along looking forward to the next one
Glad you enjoyed Gary
Thanks for your video's very helpful. This summer, I plan to un-storage (I am sure that is a word) my 1974 - CB750K4. Your parts, manual contacts plus assorted tips and tricks are extremely helpful to better understanding, what to look for and how to deal with a long storage issue(s). With luck, I hope to have my K4 operational by the end of summer. But, first my Yamaha 1966 YL1 100cc Twin. Many thanks.
Awesome! That will be a fun project
I am neither a rider or mechanic, but I love your content. It's great to see the skill, care and attention you bring to your work.
That means a lot thank you! Glad its brought enjoyment!
I love these old 4’s. Nice job!
Thanks Bob, very much enjoyed working on this one
Love the resurrection of the classics. Please keep 'em coming....
As many as I can find!
A true old school bike lover.
Dang i miss my 73 burnt orange 750 looked just like that one changed gearing on mine and a chromed 4into1 pipe little upity up on the jets not a 900 kaw around could touch it 😆 Lord i miss it😭
Couple of great videos, really enjoyed watching those dude 😎
Glad you enjoyed them! Great bike to make some videos with
You're a good hand! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Following.
Thank you and thanks a 2nd time for watching Joe!
Really enjoying your channel , just subbed . Keep up the good work bringing these old bikes back to life .
I appreciate it and happy you have been enjoying the channel
Fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed!
Enjoyed the video and RIDE SAFE!
Very nice, the classic CB750 like that it's like gold...
Another fine repair!
Thanks Richard!
Awesome job. My dad had a 1976. I remember taking it for a joy ride once while he was at work, at around 12 years old. It scared me half to death, in a fun kinda way ! Lol
At 12 I would have ruined my shorts lol!
@Brick House Builds I did. Enjoying your videos son. Good work. Keep them coming
Ah, part 2! Great job diagnosing the issues with this classic. Good idea to epoxy those covers for sure. Thanks for the video!
Well I appreciate you watching!
Top notch bike tech Jed. Good on ya m8 !
Thanks David! Hopefully you saw the first episode too
Really enjoy your vids. Glad I found them.
Thank ya Will!
Great video as always man!!
Thanks again!
Love that style of CB705Four, 💗👌 Just never had the money spare to get one! Another good CB750Four still on the road 😎 👍
🤘🤘
I had a 1972 CB-750K . I bought it new in Tampa, FL at Honda of Tampa for $1,730 cash. It was a great bike. I would love to still own it.
Would be fun to this day
@@BrickHouseBuilds It was great to see you bring that '72 back to life.
To see it and hear it when you rode it was pleasant for me.
Memory lane .
I'm impressed with how much you know about repairing and restoring bikes.
I love them so much.
I presently own a BMW RT-1150 Boxer and it's great. My fourth BMW.
Good hearing from you.
Take care,
Jimmy in Savannah, GA.
Another thumbs up. You are a craftsman!
Many thanks!
This is one of those cases where you gotta keep the bike original. That thing is clean!
For sure! Its a real survivor so it was nice to just keep it going. I would have preferred OEM coils but not worth the cost for this specific scenario
Thanks for the videos. I learned quiet a lot just now. I have an old 1980 750f I just got from a friend. Soon as the weather starts to warm going to start restoring the old bike . Cool seeing you get the old lady running better again
Thanks Jim and I'm glad you found the videos helpful!
Great work on the kill switch 👍. You got it running really nicely.
Thanks Martin! I wanted to highlight that part to help others think through the issue and test to find it. Bike runs like a top now!
Great video, of a legendary bike. Very informative, and a pleasure to watch. Thank you.
Well thank you much and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Just found your channel and subscribed. Excellent video on the diagnosis. Just went through a similar voyage with my '75 CB400F that I bought out of Minnesota. Man that is a beautiful Honda 750! Haven't seen episode 1 yet, but hard to believe that tank is clean enough inside to run, but apparently so. Looking forward to more videos like this. Now time to check your library for past episodes!
Well thank you. Please watch ep1 and then my barn find cb750 revival playlist as that one is fantastic
Great video as usual!
Thank ya!
First time seeing you chancel buddy and I in joyed watching it. ill keep on watching.
Thank ya Patrick!
What a beautiful 750! Really lovely survivor bike.
It really is. Was a pleasure to work on it!
Excellent! Love the play by play! Your channel is really cool. 😎
Thanks Jamie! Glad you are enjoying the videos
Thanks as always B.J.! I really appreciate getting this from your perspective, troubleshooting electrical issues 😡 but you seem to have a knack for it, not too surprising though your wiring content is really good.
Thanks Doc. You just have to understand where the power is going and look for what may be holding it up. Its like water, it wants to flow
Really good content! Makes me think about checking the contacts of the kill switch of my 1979 Z1000ST. Keep up!
Thanks Roland! Going through all of the electrical connectors and contacts on any older bike is time well spent.
Fantastic. Had a 4. Great bike. Good skills. Very impressive.
I appreciate it David!
great job.....I love it....old bikes back on the road..... 🙂
Exactly!
That sure brings back memories, I had that same bike when I was 17. Of course back in the 70's making chopper/bobbers out of them was all the rage. I had mine painted a black pearl (no emblems), I put on pull back handle bars, four into four drag pipes, hog wheel, 8" over fork tubes, bobbed the front fender, painted the cylinder fins wrinkle black, ect, ect. Haven't thought about that thing in years. Thank you!
The 750s were actually a very popular platform for choppers. Ive revived a 70s Jammer framed CB750 chopper and that was such a cool bike. I see these come up for sale about once a month with extended forks and similar mods that have just been sitting in sheds for 40 years
Brings back great memories ... my very first bike bought used $1250 in 1974 same color too!! Sweet! Thanks and fantastic work!!
Thanks Rick!
Hi! These videos are great! I certainly enjoyed watching them and gives me a bit more insight on my bike. I purchased a 1979 CB750F Super Sport two years ago, which was a no runner. I had a partial restoration done but no engine rebuild. However, did have the engine checked and tuned. Got it running as a daily rider, however; I've experienced similar issues with the high speed running as you had with yours. Watching your video have given me other options that could help resolve my issues. Thanks again!
Norm.
Im glad you like them! Hopefully they help with tracking down those potential issues
Excellent channel!
Much appreciated!
You did well to find the miss fire issue regarding the switch. Congratulations. I would have never thought it possible and that’s why you are the paid mechanic. 👍 Richie.
I've seen it a few times with these old bikes. The contacts just get gunky or break. Always an easter egg hunt
I love your videos you inspire me to do what you are doing !!!
Well thats awesome! Glad they help inspire
Sweet ride, and great demo of the whole job - love it! Thx
So tempted to get one ... hmmmmm
Thank you! They are great classic bikes so you would enjoy it for sure
MUCH RESPECT ,YOUNG MAN ! LOVE IS- A 750/4 !
Thanks David! Definitely check out PT1 of this if you haven't already. Its where I do full diag
Love those old 750 fours, so fun to fix and ride. Nice survivor bike and you did an excellent job with all the repairs. Learned some good diagnostic procedures that are going to help me be better at troubleshooting issues. Haven’t ridden a cycle in a while, maybe get me one and ride this upcoming season. Really enjoy how thoroughly you inspect, clean and repair all systems on these bikes - you can repair mine anytime.
Thank you! Hopefully you saw part 1 with this bike as that was more diagnosis
Your channel was recommended to me. I watched I liked I subscribed. Keep it up fella.
Welcome aboard! Glad you like what you see!
Nothing more pleasurable than watching a master at his craft!
Just subscribed and will check out all your other vids.
Keep ridin', BJ!
Many thanks Johnny!
So I’m guessing CB750 riders don’t forget to turn off their indicators… love that they beep at you😂 I’ve picked up some cool trouble shooting tips and tricks on this great video👍
Yeah lol. First thing to go on any ive got lol
Excellent 2 part video series- new subscriber. Thx!
Well I appreciate you watching both and am glad you enjoyed!
Beautiful survivor that now runs great. Break down of the front brake was interesting for sure. I’ve been itching to get a bike, but my better half has other thoughts. Looking forward to watching another one of your entertaining videos. Be safe out there!
Thanks Tom! Yeah, thought the brakes would be ok but they didn't last.
Just shared some of my long term runner experiences on part one but forgot to mention the tendency of the original oil filter bolt to get its head chewed up. My dear old now departed dad welded a nice big steel nut on my original and an aftermarket version became an essential buy in those far off crazy 70s. 6000 miles plus on my CB550 saw the indicator switch contacts wear out too. Oh’ by the way, the first item to get ditched was the indicator beeper.
I was just thinking about how irritating that beeper might get. On the other hand, can't even put a number on the amount of bikers I've seen running a blinker for miles and miles after a turn. Luckily my KTM has a self-cancel feature or I'd be in that boat too. Perhaps we should bring those beepers back?! Very forward thinking of Honda from a safety perspective!
can't WAIT to see it with a black Windjammer fairing !!!
But why??
@@BrickHouseBuilds LOL, if you have to ask why, never mind, you'll not understand
Dang brother, I'm hooked on your gearhead great channel.
I appreciate it!
Hey BJ. Those carbs don't look that bad, relatively speaking 😁. Three years ago I had to restore a set of Mikuni BS 32 CV's from a barn find Suzuki 750 that had sat with ethanol gas in the bowls for twenty years. There were just thick blobs of semi-solid green goo left in the bowls and the brass jets had all eroded away so even the screw slots were almost completely gone. No saving those ones. Thank the M/C gods for suppliers like Jets R Us for supplying the right replacement parts for old carbs!
Cracking job on this bike and very thorough on cleaning out parts runs very good now and sounds great 👍🔧🔧🔧👌🏁🏁
Thank ya Peter!
Excellent demo 🚓
Thanks Jim!
My brother I think had the same 72 model and color... He really took care of his.
Love the channel.. I've learned a lot of your mechanical abilities and if I get another, I owe to you. Keep on Rollin from Arizona
Definitely check out part 1 if you haven't yet as I show how to diagnose and get to this point. I'm actually in Tucson as we speak!
Second time I've watched this video.. Enjoy watching you* work on the bikes, & eventually getting them running again.. Lots of time, work & effort, in getting those old bikes running smoothly again.. Lots of skills & knowledgeable talent, make watching your videos over again a pleasure.. "Thank You* for posting & sharing much of your hard work with everyone.. Hope all is well with you*, family* & friends*.. 💯🎥🎬👍👌✌️💖💞💎💎💎💎🇺🇲
Thanks David! This bike is still one I see often as the new owner lives near me and rides it daily which is fantastic to see!
Wow,those carbs are cleaner than the board of health and appreciated the polish job 👍
Hahaha thank ya
That was fun to watch.
Thanks Stew, be sure to watch PT1 if you haven't seen it as I go through the diag process
@@BrickHouseBuilds I did, thanks!
Fabulous stuff, takes me back to the 70s when I owned a few Hondas,500,550, not this particular model. Unusual to see the original 4 into 4 exhaust, most people changed them because they rotted out from the inside. Great bike, had its own character, still looks lovely. Terrific videos, thank you.
Thank you much glad you liked the video! Definitely watch part 1 if you haven't already as well as my barn find cb750 series that's currently underway.
@@BrickHouseBuilds Yes,I watched part 1 too and have just begun the barn find videos. I love watching these machines being repaired and restored, fascinating and nostalgic. Will continue to tune in to your stirling efforts,a new fan from the UK.
@@gf301 Awesome and thank you again
So wonderful to have you so knowledgeable and skillful with your excellent diagnostic skills, bringing these old darlings back to life! Love the videos and repair jobs. Makes me believe that old bikes can survive the passage of time, with care that you give them. diagnostic and actually logical though. Well done Sir Machine.
Thanks so much!
Had that same bike in 1986.
Great video btw❤👍✌
I appreciate it
Hello there, another great video, thank you.
Just can’t seem to get enough of these old Honda motorcycles. There seem to be quite a variety of them for you to pick up easily in the U.S. Most of them over in the U.K. are quite expensive considering the work involved in getting them back together.
I like the methodical approach you have and as usual with old bikes a few surprises before the end!
Thanks again, ( sorry can’t see your name) best regards Kevin.
Thanks Kevin! Definitely check out part 1 of this bike as thats where I do the diagnosis for the required repairs. This is a customer bike that was just in for service so not mine.
great video
Many thanks!
Excellent well done
I appreciate it Michael!
I have a lot of admiration for people like you who can fix these bikes! I
Well I appreciate that Terry thank you! 🤘🤘

Vintage bikes. LOL
They were my youth's. And I loved to work on them then. Now, forget it!
Oh sometimes I enjoy newer stuff dont fret. Just more passionate about reviving and maintaining old bikes
You know your shit!! Great job.
Well thank ya!
I remember seeing one of these, age 8, in my mum's home order catalogue (remember those?) and I thought it was the coolest thing I ever saw I my life...
Im too young to remember those. I remember many catalogs but no rad cb750s in them
@@BrickHouseBuilds John Moores catalogue sold everything. The 750 Four was being used as a prop in the motorcycle gear section. This was 1972.
Yes I'm that old... 😔
Another great video! Guess I'll be looking for a CB750 this summer. Maybe be able to find one at Vintage Days....
Well there you would pay top dollar. Just check Facebook marketplace or Craigslist
Love anything involving the Honda 750 the bikes iconic saying that do like the 400x4 super sport but the saying is if your planning a multi mile trip there and back make sure it's on a honda 90 enjoyed the start up on the cub 👍great content and posts very informative keep up the good work 👏👏
Thanks Frank!
nice job
Thank ya!
I had a 72/ 750 back in the late 70's and at cursing speed it would go up and down on the rpms just a little. After cleaning carbs and no change I took it to Honda mechanic --it was the rubber tubes inbetween carbs and head that had small cracks in them. Just to let you know if you don't already.
Yup cracked manifolds will do that. Air leaks can be tricky. I always inspect those.
So cool🔥
Very cool bikes indeed
Great video and great work. If I was the owner I would definitely replace the seat cover. It’s a survivor.
Thank you. Hopefully you saw pt 1 where I did the DIAG portion. I actually have recent videos with this bike as well where you can see how much the owner cleaned it up
great cb video, thnx. keep them coming, if possible also for 500/550 model (thinking of getting one of those).
Thank you! No upcoming 500/550s in the schedule. I have a vast backlog of bikes to say the least. You never know if a service job will pop up though
I would most certainly have changed the 50 years old brake hoses. Usually you say 5-6 years before replace, so 50 years are long due.
Besides that i can only congratulate you with your fine Honda. My first motorcycle back in ‘79 was a ‘72 Honda 750 too, only that mine had a rebore to 928 cc. I later had a F1 and a K7. I still ride motorcycles. Have a DL 1000 Suzuki but are thinking about getting me a Honda 750 before i get old.
I agree on the hoses but I talked with the owner and its on the list of future potential work to be done to the bike.
Im actually very much wanting to try a Vstrom but since I have a KLR650 it doesn't make sense to add a DL to the stable. We will see though. I appreciate you watching
Great work!! Think it need some time to clean the debris carbon.. To help it., my only tip is STP Full System Cleaner,.. That stuff are immediately working.. Check also air leaks in box.. Only a fraction of a leak will make the bike stuttering.. Big Thanks for letting us follow you on the adventure!.. :-)
Thank ya. I had been through the aixbox off camera to seal any potential leak points. I also always inspect intake manifolds for cracking and leak potential. I had these manifolds in my heated ultrasonic to soften them up before using again.
Awesome!
🤘🤘
Back in the day it was the bike of my 20 something self's dreams.
Oh the memories. From 72 to 76 I was a certified Honda Mechanic. The CB 750 was a dream machine. In 2009 I rode a 72 CB 750 I rebuilt 3500 miles over the Bear-tooth Pass in Montana. She was smoother and sexier than my Sportster or Vic Crossroad. 90 mph all day at 45mpg. That's one for the boomers you millenniums that can't survive without your damn phone...
Yet this "millennium" can fix your bike, show you how to operate your phone, and record videos on it that you enjoy watching?
@@BrickHouseBuilds But can you survive without it???? :-)))
Very cool
Glad you enjoyed!
