- Barn Find Benelli 750 SEI - Unseizing The Engine! How Bad Is It? In this video I finally take a little time to work on the rare Benelli SEI I drug out of a barn last year. Having now obtained the correct socket to remove the park plugs I am able to inspect the cylinders and determine the cause for it being seized. Watch as the bike takes a big step forward with getting it unseized and having more hope for revival down the road.
The first episode where I found the bike: • BARN FIND Benelli 750 ...
Unseizing the engine on my 1975 Honda CB750: • Unseizing A Motorcycle...
Engine inspection on my CB750: • Barn Find CB750 Health...

The largest virus on CZcams is people telling you "You're Wrong!". Ill never understand why people cant understand that theres more than one way to do almost everything-- and that their way isn't the ONLY way.. the best learning is being able to understand all angles all the time..
I just found your channel and love the content- Thank You for sharing your adventures with all of us
Thanks so much and I obviously agree on that. I've had people get upset with me for the smallest things lol
I used to do the same thing back in the seventies and eighties with old Yamaha 2 strokes bikes.
No nonsense channels like this are the best 👍Just a guy that loves bikes, making content for people that love bikes too. This looks like it'll be a great project to follow.
Thank ya Dan!
I don't know who this guy is but he is making two people very happy here.my wife thinks he is gorgeous and I think he gets the best bikes in the WORLD!
Spot on man, no negativity at all. Exciting to see her brake free!!
Thank ya!
Not sure what anyone would say you did wrong. You went at it carefully and methodically. Enjoyed it and looking forward to seeing more.
Oh people g out of their way to point out anything lol
I love the way he uses the blowtorch because heat solves so many tight mechanical issues!
I’ve been waiting for this day ever since you discovered the beast lying on its side. You went about freeing the motor very carefully and methodically. Patience and experience are definitely two virtues needed when tackling this type of job. I’m happy to see this project will continue to completion. Ciao and namaste.
Thank ya much! Glad you're excited for it!
Liked the way your going.. I absolutely hate these hundreds of "will it run" videos on YT where guys are brutally tearing out cars or bikes out of woods, hooking on a battery on these poor engines and without any precaution just let them turn and run and break everything. A little love and intelligence is all its needs! Thank you, love to see this rare bike hit the road again - and in the way YOU like it! Best regards from Switzerland.
I appreciate it! Sometimes I'd be open to giving it a go to see if it lives but this definitely requires extra attention
For some of those older channels, you can see the cars left to rot again in the background years after.
This is quickly becoming my favourite CZcams channel! And turning it into a vintage racer lookalike is exactly the route I would have taken if I had that bike. And your skill set. And your shop. And time. 😂
Well done, looking forward to the next one!
Greetings from Sweden.
Well I very much appreciate that! Glad you have been enjoying!
I concur from UK. Too many channels concentrate on the ‘will it run after xx years’ nonsense. Then some them even ride the bikes home - despite turning up with a buddy and a truck!! But some them have jeeeezus on their side apparently 🙄🧐😎😜👀🙈
Peace
@@G58 some channels do so much "will it run after x years" only to have the things brought to lie in another field behind the workshop for what is another few years already...
@@426baron Indeed. Silly isn’t it?
@@G58 maybe not that silly... In a few years time, they'll be able to make a whole new series of "will it start ?"(again) with their own junk. More content with minimal effort, and some are already at this stage.
I have been looking forward to both this and the CBX. So I don't think you can go wrong working on either one. I really want to hear one of them run now. Great stuff BJ.
Same here. Not sure which will run first but id bet on the cbx
You sir have the patience of a Saint! More power to ya, I hope that you enjoy riding that vintage bike. I'm sure you'll have it up and running in no time.
Really enjoying your videos so thanks for putting them out for us all. Just an observation but I saw one of these bikes last year and the thing that stood out for me was listening to the tickover. The bike had 6 into 6 pipes and standing behind it listening the the pop of each cylinder from the individual tailpipes was fabulous. Thanks again for the videos I've seen so far as I have a lot of catching up to do.
A bunch of my favorite videos dropped today but this one is the gem, and the project I’m most looking forward to. And the direction you want to go with it is bellissimo👏 Of course I’d love to see a full teardown, but whatever you do with it will be great.
Thank ya! It will oooze cool Italian race bike vibes
Liked it? Hell yeah. I loved it! I have no idea what you're doing or why you're doing it, but it's still fascinating. I hope to get into wrenching at some point in my life and I'm sure I'm learning something. Thanks for taking the time to make these vids for us. Much appreciated =)
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanx for breathing new life into this machine. Hope to see it running in the next one.
I'm not sure how long it will be before I work on it again but still probably a long way from running. At least its a step forward!
Great job, nice to see the care you take with it!
Thanks Bob!
Very much admire your methodology - slow and steady works!
Thanks James!
Looking forward to seeing it run. Be following this all the way. All the best from England ❤
Thanks Graham!
Love your videos and the quality work that you do. All the best fella 👍
Much appreciated Mark!
The project sounds great. Can't wait to see more.
Glad you're excited for it!
I am very happy that I found this channel. Amazing stuff you do. It's really relaxing watching these videos.
Thank you! Happy you find them relaxing
Really cool that you’re revisiting this one, sooo rare 👍🏻🏴👍🏻
Definitely exciting to put some time into it
Great content, really grateful to be allowed to follow your excellent engine free-up and share your path taken in getting there.
Yes I think a period cafe type racer would be a great way to go. Thanks again for this excellent tutorial. Richard, a Brit in Brazil
Well I'm glad you enjoyed! I appreciate it!
You keep going as you are mate, all your projects seem to go very well to me, great video, really enjoyed it.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Many thanks Pete!
I had one in 1979. Bought it new. Problems with not running on all cylinders were solved after placing an electronic system. It is a very nice bike. Super sound from intake and six exhausts.
An upgraded ignition would definitely be on the to-do list
@@BrickHouseBuilds Hopefully you can get all the parts. good luck.
Thank you for posting your video, I'm currently working on my 1980 Benelli 900 Sei Mark 2 project, I've installed a bank of six Dell 'Orto 22mm carbs to replace the stock three 24mm units. I also have a modified 750 Sei Silentium six-into-six exhaust system, the 900 has a more vertical cylinder block than the 750, so to avoid the silencers hanging too low the header pipes had to be cut and rewelded at a different angle so that the silencers sit higher up. I also have Tomaselli clip-on bars, a Tomaselli quick action throttle and Paulo Tarozzi rear set foot controls. I have installed an oil cooler from a 1982 Honda CB650SC, Benelli sixes run very hot so an oil cooler is a sensible addition. I'm in no rush to complete the project, I just work on it when I feel the urge, the Benelli last ran in 2010. Benelli only built 1878 of the 900 Sei in a production run from 1979 until 1989, so they weren't mass produced, nothing else sounds like a Benelli Sei.
That sounds like an awesome project! I do plan to add an oil cooler so thats good info! Excited to get it going
@@BrickHouseBuilds Thanks for your reply, the CB650SC cooler, hoses and take off casting all fit directly onto the Benelli sixes. I mounted the cooler where the stock horns were, I relocated the horns either side on the rear engine mounting plates which on my machine are now stainless steel as are the front engine mounting plates. I'm looking forward to your future 750 Sei videos.
Dude. Love your content, recently "ish" found your channel. Enjoy the longer videos like this where your problem solving and getting it done. I tinker about with bikes but nothing like what you do. I Find it relaxing watching your videos after a long day at work.👌💪
Thank ya for the input. I purposely kept this one long to see how it went. Boring to edit but if people find it relaxing id like to keep giving the same feeling
Absolutely love the direction. Exactly what I’d do with it ❤
It's gonna be so fun!
Glad to hear the backstory on this bike. When I first saw it in the previous video all I could think was "how could anyone do that?" That machine was priced so far beyond my means back in 1975. I really hope your persistence and patience pays dividends. Good luck!
Yeah I couldn't give much detail on the full story but it all adds up.
The direction you chose for this bike is perfect given it's condition. I'm glad your saving it.
I think so too. If it were more complete and original I'd sell it to a collector
Indeed. If it was stock, it would be a crime, a sin even, especially given the rarity of them. I actively dislike most of the modern interpretations of the cafe racer: Mercilessly butchered rear ends; LED strips sewn into BROWN leather seat covers; BIG FAT knobbly front tyres (??WTF??), guaranteeing they will never race anything other than the coffee shop poser’s ego; and the ludicrous Bermuda Triangle of lost opportunities behind the carbs - where imagination goes to cry!!! I swear if I ever meet the lunatic that started such a ridiculous trend (copied by EVERYONE devoid of an original idea or imagination), I may need a Valium to avoid doing serious harm.
But this bike has already had a life on the track, so that’s part of its story already. So the same rules obviously don’t apply.
My book won’t be available on Amazon. 🧐😎😜👀
Peace
Watching that engine loosen up was exciting! Great job taking us through the process in such a detailed and explanatory way. The tops of those cylinders looked pretty lumpy. Feeling optimistic about this bike and what you'll be doing with it.
Yea lots of carbon on the pistons and surely the head. Still undecided on how far ill take it down but I would like to see less junk in the cylinders
I think the rusty spots would be beyond the rings?
Great stuff, and thoroughly enjoyed the episode. I'm looking forward to more content on this bike no matter when it comes out.
Thanks Michael!
Great seeing you free up a cool engine
Was definitely a big stress relief when it finally spun
Great content! If you get an engine unstuck, it will likely run(as evidenced by your recent CB750 revival). Am glad to know that you have future plans for this long-term project, and also looking forward to you getting your CBX put back together and lit off! You got this, man, because you have a lot of knowledge already dealing with these old bikes and all the builds you have done so far.
Thanks for another cool video, and keep up the great work!!
Thanks so much Mark! I'm feeling confident for this one to live again
This is such a cool and unique bike. Thank you so much for picking it up and showing us your progress on it. Now I have my fingers crossed one appears on the Minneapolis/st.Paul Craigslist!
Well of course! Just happy people are interested in it
Coming to you all the way from India. Grown up with classic bikes in the family Indian Scout 750, Triumph twins, Sunbeam etc. Saw them being worked on as a growing up kid too. I currently ride an Enfield Interceptor and a Benelli TRK 502x. Love you passion with these timeless beauties and find it extremely satisfying to watch your videos !! Keep up the awesome work 👍
Welcome and glad you enjoy the videos!
I have had about a dozen bikes in my life and the mako 360 dirt bike was totally insane!
Really like the vision you have for this project; hits exactly the right spot I reckon.
Just hoping I do the vintage style justice as its so cool. Been wanting to build a bike in that style for a long time so this just has to happen
I remember seeing one of those bikes in my youth. Great job
👍👍
Hello BJ it’s great to see you at work again. I think the direction you are planning for the Benelli is going to be perfect.
Look forward to the CBX too. Cheers Kevin
Thanks Kev!
Great work, almost as exciting starting it for the first time.
Thanks Andrew!
The Benelli 750 design was based on the Honda 500 Four. So I guess it’s a bit less surprising that it would have JIS screws. You might find other similarities to Honda products (ie: tappet covers!). Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.
Correct
Your spot on dan. Cb650 four is the basis of the engine. Stock honda 550 pistons and rings are a direct fit. I rebuilt on of these years ago. Wish I still had if now.
To be fair, there was no real need for Benelli to use JIS screws, because there must be plenty of European companies producing the more compatible alternatives. And it’s likely that the JIS screws cost more than them. Plus the choice of screw heads after all have no bearing on the overall engine or bike design.
However, JIS heads ARE superior to many of the alternatives, except perhaps Allen/Hex Sockets. And we know that Benelli was in full Picasso mode with this one: Stealing from the best!!
I remember when I saw my first 750 Sei at the opening day of a new boutique style dealership in the UK Midlands. They were allowing people to test ride most of the Benelli range - except the Sei. As the screaming two stroke triples went off in a cloud of smoke, the 750 just sat there majestically basking in the admiring gazes of every one of us who knew we couldn’t afford it. I’m guessing that was 1977, but the memory is getting foggy. The place was called Davick Motique! Two guys called Dave and Erick with more money than business sense. The enterprise sadly didn’t last long. I did buy my Belstaff wax cotton jacket from them, but it was always a bit odd due to being on display in bright sunlight through the plate glass showroom windows.
It’s odd how we store our recollections isn’t it?
Typo on cb650. Should be cb550f
@@neilgillam9919 well 500f but we knew what you meant. All good
It's your bike build it how you want. If someone don't like it, not your problem. You do great work and I thoroughly enjoy watching.
Thanks Stephen!
I love the style you’re going for!!
As you said, not really agree with making this beast into that racer style, but thats just a difference in opinion and taste. Still hyped to see the build, and the care you always put into these bikes. Who cares about what it really looks like in the end, if the owner is happy with it. Atleast you're trynna do the bike justice, and give it new life.
Keep up the awesome work man
🤘🤘
Your find, your time, your knowledge, and your money. If someone doesn't like that they can go find one and do it themselves. I might not agree with your direction but I can learn from your method. Thanks for sharing. Your direction looks good on this one.

Can't wait to see the next episode

Well thank you! Glad you enjoy them
Excellent video, I look forward to seeing the whole series of how you leave this beauty in perfect condition, greetings from southern Argentina.
Thank you
Didn't realize how beautiful the stock bike is, with everything on it, pretty crazy how many cylinders they put on a bike sometimes. Lol
This is gonna be awesome, the sound is gonna be the best part
Definitely excited about it
Love the idea with this. and it's really interesting to see how you worked on this engine! also... 10k views in 18 hours! respectttt

Great video! Fantastic work you are doing!!
Thanks Bill
I am super impressed how much the internal rust and carbon came out with just soaking it. Great job! That bike is going to be so cool. Love the videos man.
Definitely some. For sure a ton of carbon left but getting it hot and running a good fuel should help
@@BrickHouseBuilds what is your reason for opposition to tearing it down and trying to clean it all out by hand?- if you don't mind me asking
@@christianjustus9900 I explained that in the video
Super cool project man! Keep going forward, it is a very nice bike. Thanks for sharing it.

I am one of those people that have been asking you about the CBX 🤠,...so thank you for the update 👍 I really enjoyed this video.
good job from an old biker in London
And I appreciate all those who do ask. I value that interest in the project. Just a ton going on right now

Yeah the last video was very rushed with such limited time. Glad I was able to at least make a step forward here.

I used a similar product as JB Weld on a 6x6 Polaris. A Wurth product. It was for a company that had this old ATV as a backup machine, and they didn’t want to spend $1800 plus labour in a new gear case. I've never heard from them again, so I presume it worked out just fine.

It will be an adventure for sure
I really dig your 1 stall garage and your attention to detail.

No.6 cleaned up good. It'll run.
I rebuilt my dads 79 benelli 900 Sei a few years back. Just a heads up. When you spun the wheel I noticed the bolt treaded in the crank on the ignition timing side was wobbling. Probably just cross treaded. Hopefully it’s not the crank since the bike did fall over on that side. Awesome work and can’t wait to see the finished result.
Could be the bolt but eventually ill put a dial on it to confirm
Looking forward to what the end result of this, and other projects you have on the go,along with any future restores, just subscribed,👍,🍻from🏴,Cj.

These came out new when I was about 16. I always thought they had the sexiest exhaust note. Good luck finding any parts you need.
Yeah hopefully wont be too bad
Great job, well done.
Thanks Martin!
Been binge watching your videos over the weekend. In my working life, I used to repair fire trucks, and the foam compound they used was very corrosive resulting in gate valves and pump lobes seizing up.
We found that brake fluid has great penetrating qualities. We would allow it to soak overnight and the following morning see where it had seeped through, which was the previous day an immovable component.
Maybe try it next time you have a seized component.
Videos are great. Keep up the good work.
Glad you have enjoyed!
good project
Well done matey
