    New skies have helped me to keep skiing at a fairly high level as I have aged. Its easy to rip when your body does not hurt. Skiing is big part of who I am and my friends and I call it the virus. For those of us who have the virus we have to ski its not an option. I have a lot of respect for Glen Plake, he has the virus and found out many years ago to make a living doing what he loves, long before CZcams etc.

    I love that Glen continued periodically skiing on long skis for decades past the onset of the new stuff. Brilliantly talented skier.

    I first skied in 1967. The equipment changes have been amazing and drastic. I consider myself an expert on ski equipment from 1960s to 2000. Lost touch the last twenty. Skiing is too expensive for me now. I miss every run. Look up "Billy Kidd 1964 Olympic slalom". He Used Lange Flo competition ski boots, Dynamic VR 19 skis and The great Look Nevada bindings. Quite a combo for the time. Billy got a silver medal there. I got to the point to beat the NASTAR pacesetter at many different locations. They never seem to like that? I remember Glen skiing on 223 downhill racing skis. Not easy in the bumps to do that.
    I remember the bumps in Colorado the 70s were 5 feet tall. Thanks for the video.

      come on now the 8 foot long solid wood skis with metal edges screw on - leather lace up boots and those Sweet Cub Co bindings RULED the slopes !

      tinger84 absolutely. Thank you for not calling him a "GOAT". There's something fucked up about people using that acronym, in my opinion.

    Plake's a monster. Ski's are like pool cues. If you can't shoot with any of them, you probably can't shot with any of them.

    Certainly the look and style of Elan skis has changed somewhat. I had a pair of Elan 195's back in the 80's. Best pair of skis I ever owned. I ran them into the ground as I just wouldn't part with them. Kept filling them with ptex until the soles were completely stuffed. I remember they had Salomon 747 bindings. Nothing I've had since feel as good.

    My 205cm Elan RCGS were my favorite powder boards in the ‘80s. I bent one skiing bumps. So sad. It took me 15 more years to discover parabolics. They make skiing easy! But they dont skate or ride nearly as well when theyre flat on the snow.

      I had the exact same skis, best carving skis I ever had.... until I finally went to a wide shovel ski about 5 years ago! One thing he said that stood out, it makes skiing better, but it doesn't make me a better skier! At 60, I'll take it either way!

      James Dunn He does seem that way in his interviews, doesn't he. I imagine being able to make a living (and his case, no doubt a good one) doing something you love and are passionate about, would generally improve ones attitude.

      I always thought he was an idiot based on nothing but his appearance. My son stood in line at Squaw on a powder day (for hours) with him and told me he is a very nice guy. The old book by its cover thing.

  • @teddyzamba1396
    @teddyzamba1396 Před rokem

    Its rather odd that ski makers follow the same trends, the waterski geometry; where no width (less than a pool table) is fair game. I mean, ski design is stupid by any measure, these paddles are so ridiculous. Why on God's earth would you ski on anything over 90mm underfoot....but, that's just me. You got these banana skis with rocker reversed twice and scrambled at the tips; just stupid.
