    I really enjoyed seeing your footage of Rhinebeck and hearing about your trip! Also love your new cardigan - I agree that cardigans are practical and can be worn year-round, as often air conditioned spaces can make an additional layer necessary!!
    Never been a fan of horror movies - but I don’t mind true crime! I think because I find it interesting that seemingly ordinary people can be capable of committing brutal murder. And we don’t witness the crime in real time!!

    I had surgery right before Rhinebeck and had to cancel my trip and was so sad. I am using my time off to binge watch and catch up on my CZcams! So good to catch up. I love the rustic look of the yarn that you got and I am super excited for the hat updates because I had planned to make that hat while I am off of work right now. Will wait for the updates. Yay

    About the Halloween movie- I grew up near Baltimore and then lived on the edge of DC. Never liked horror movies and can totally relate to it feeling too real. I live outside of a tiny rural town now and it’s so peaceful, very different from the life we knew. And it’s great to know all of our neighbors and look out for each other.

    Gorgeous treasures you found at Rhinebeck
    I am very curious about your thoughts as you process the fleece. I did skirt mine and washed about 30-% of it. I carded up a few Rolags and spun it. So soft and swishy. Quite silvery and it does have some shine to it
    I have the combs arriving soon so going to process the rest with combs Thanks so mucb

    🐏🐑 🧶 🥰 I like forensic files too for the same reason! And I've never liked horror... With the exception of The Cabin in the Woods, of course. The one you watched sounds horrible in the worst ways. I live closer to Philly and every single day hear about the kind of things you mentioned in your area. It's an epidemic borne out of inequalities and injustice, fear and despairing. Nothing "entertaining" about any of it, agreed.
    Loved all the wool 🦙 speak and walk thru of your Rhinebeck trip, and the Bookkeeper, and the fun connections you made! I'll need to mindfully look for you next year ..I got quite caught up and overwhelmed visually with the crowd and colors and went over my self imposed budget... But it felt so right 😂 and I'm very satisfied with all my purchases. ❤️

I too went to a small fleece and fibre faire yesterday off the island where I live, and picked up some Carmel coloured alpaca fleece 🐑,I am going to mix it with wool, and I got some BFL x Gotland roving. ,and a few mohair locks to blend into some wool. I just wanted to let you know that I’m a big fan of Green Mountain Spinnery as well. Way back in the day, when I was a weaver, I used to use their yarn. You reintroduced me to this mill here on your channel. Thank you for that. As a matter of fact, I recently went to the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool festival (Sept). I immediately went to their booth and made a purchase thinking Taylor made me do it! Actually, that’s why I drove five hours and went to the festival. I was browsing the website and when I saw Green Mountain among the kist of vendors I made my plans. I’m a Swiftie via my granddaughter. She adores Taylor Swift. We want to go to a concert. Stay safe.

    I've met some of the folks from Island Fibers. Lopez Island fleeces are generally Romneys or crossbreeds from medium, long, and down wools, bred on Lopez Island for making yarn. The Salish Sea's native wool-growing animals were actually woolly dogs, shorn yearly just like sheep -- with the dual purpose of being a much loved pet, of course. Unfortunately, they are extinct due to the genocide carried out against their humans.

    Your dining table decoration is so pretty! Since it’s on a runner, I’d just slide it over to the end of the table or the corner, and process your fleece, then slide it back to the center after. Rather than dismantle it.

Like the movies about a family friend who ends up being a murder. I have heard way to many real stories that line up with those scary movies.

    If I’m remembering right, Greene County Wool’s yarns are spun from CVM/Romeldale, just like Harrisville’s first Shear collection. How would you say they compare?

    • @TaylorOwen
      @TaylorOwen  Před rokem +1

      True!!! The HD yarn feels more commercial because it is super clean and stripped of its natural oils. The GCW feels like it could be handspun. It is much smoother. I do believe that GMS uses a spinning that is set to provide more twist than a traditional woolen spin yarn though they do spin carded wool. 💕

    I’m horrified you live with the threat of serious violence so close in your life. In Australia, most people would not have your experience. It’s the stuff of ‘underbelly’ crime here and frankly, what we see in many American films and TV. Recently, we’ve been watching an American police show and keep saying, ‘that would never happen...’ or with such frequency. Maybe it does!
    Not to suggest we don’t ever have such extremes of violence in Australia, but it certainly isn’t a common experience - especially gun crime. Australian gun laws have no doubt had a positive impact on the situation. Your politicians are up against strong opposition to make effective change it seems.
    I don’t understand people’s enjoyment of graphic horror either. They must be able to separate themselves and their lives from what they see. At least you’d hope that’s the case.
    Stay safe, Taylor. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your beautiful yarn.🐑🧶

    You can’t compare the horror genre to true crime. They’re two completely opposites. Horror fans aren’t naive enough to be fascinated by murder in movies. We understand what the real world is like, even if we’re never personally affected by murder. Horror films, especially slasher flicks, scratch an adrenaline itch, and to be honest most of them are so unrealistic they’re funny. If you don’t care for them, fine. But it’s not fair to say that people that enjoy don’t understand the real horrors that happen in this world.

    • @TaylorOwen
      @TaylorOwen  Před rokem

      I don’t know that I said that but I appreciate you chiming in to share your perspective.

      @@TaylorOwen “Murder doesn’t happen everywhere. If you live in a place where murder doesn’t happen and you’re watching murder in a movie you probably think, like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy, my God, murder’s happening, wow!’ and it’s fun.”
      That. That’s what you said. You essentially implied that people who live in relatively safe areas where murder isn’t common (it does happen everywhere) are, at best, fascinated by it, and at worst, enamored of it.
      You don’t have to like horror movies. But I’ll say it again: Don’t assume you know how people think, or what draws them to a certain genre. Don’t assume that you live in an Oh-so-dangerous area where you need a safe place to retreat to, which you have because of your “privilege”. That entire speech of yours was so condescending and outright rude.
