Family relationships are so hard. I love the new cardi!! I think i have some yarn for it in stash...😊 My garden was hit-or-miss this year. Basil, zinnias, marigolds, carrots and beets all went crazy. But my whole gardening focus, the tomatoes, just didn't pan out. But you're right, summer's nearly a memory, and yes, it's time for greens!

You are a very talented and lovely young woman and I find it so sad that you have family who do not appreciate you. Regardless of the connection, you deserve to have relationships that celebrate who you are and lift you up. No one should have to experience toxic relationships in their life and I think it important that you put an end to it. There are some excellent uTube channels which deal with exactly your situation which I am sure will be of help to you in dealing with this distressing situation. My brother-in-law is going through some rough times with his mental health, marriage and personal life for the past 5 years and we’ve been there for him emotionally and financially (along with all of our family) and provide him with so much unconditional support- and it’s never enough and when we finally establish boundaries to allow him to find his footing, he retaliates and has called us some nasty things and ostracized us. What hurts me the most isn’t the betrayal I’ve felt but he watching him continuously verbally abusing my husband and my husband feeling guilty that somehow he should be doing more. The worse thing is his mother siding with his brother and I think the only way around this is to have very strong and rigid boundaries and build relationships with other deserving individuals

Love your podcast Taylor, and your new pattern is beautiful! One of my favorite people in the financial habits space is Ramit Sethi, he has a great book (and podcast) called I will teach you to be rich. Highly recommend!

Taylor our mothers sound similar, I decided one day to accept and surrender to the way my mother is and will always be. When I let go of what I had missed and still deeply needed from her. Your cardigan is beautiful. I think you create lovely garments. I absolutely feel and am challenged with the stash and budget. Your latest cardigan pattern look v. good on you. Though I find the sleeves too large, and no longer have a waistline, I plan to knit this garment asap. With respect to your mother, note that I am over eighty, my mother died 25 years ago. I was the oldest of 8 and thought that we had a good relationship...but found out a few years ago that she didn't know (understand?) why I am an independent woman with no children who values education and a sixty year relationship with a quiet man. It was her example, of course. That's a parent for you! They don't live up to our expectations AND we don't live up to theirs. Despite this we had a good relationship. My advice? Let go of unmet expectations. Ignore Mom with a smile. Keep your finances close, just in case. Live life joyfully.

Dear Taylor - your sharing about the difficulties with your mother just breaks my heart and I hope you have family members (aunties, grandmothers, cousins) and/or close friends who are supporting you. I am 69 and my mother passed about 2 years ago and so I have gotten myself thru the bulk of processing about my parent's neglect and abuse. I tried to be everything to everyone for years and finally out of desperation quit and had no contact with my family for about a year. After that I had very little contact and put no emotional energy into these relationships. Information about narcissistic family systems really helped me to understand how I had been scapegoated and worse in my family. Your mother does not see you as an individual and sounds very selfish and cruel - I hope you can find ways to reclaim your emotional independence, energy and strength. Perhaps some therapy would help... but you could start by educating yourself about trauma bonded relationships and enmeshment. Right here on CZcams there are lots of resources. There is so much grief involve in this... but working thru it is an opportunity to become whole beautiful person. I am grateful for the courage you have shown by sharing , this is something that so many people struggle with. And, I love your new cardigan pattern!

Your knitting is beautiful and your garden is beautiful! I've missed your podcast friend, and I hope you feel better soon. I very recently went no contact with my mother and a year ago with my father. My parents gave me a roof over my head and food. Every now and then emotional support, but they were extremely toxic human beings to each other and to their children. And now as an adult they expect me to carry that for them, and I refuse. I have extreme ocd and anxiety from what they exposed me to as a kid. But I am now happily living and married, and after years of therapy I am my own caregiver. I mourn everyday for the mother I wish was here and she's just gone. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. And I don't normally comment but your podcast has always been one of my favorites and I wish you much peace. And peace for all of us who have suffered trauma.

Love the new Cardigan! I am a bit of a new knitter of maybe 7 yrs mainly have knit shawls cowls, hats & knit socks are a easy thing I learned that I have one going as a easy knit. Fitted garments are a bit of a challenge for me finding a size and learning modification. I usually just buy for each item I will make so don’t have much stash except usually have a few balls of sock yarn. My first sweater was way to big. Did 6 inch of ease but way to big 3 inches on each side was very boxy, so since I am busty need to go down a bit and or do waist shaping. I don’t have a lot of people I know to help so learn from people like you and other podcasters. Since I am a bit insecure 😢 with fitted garments I like to follow a step by step recorded how to knit a sweater on their pattern so I can learn that way. Sorry for your family issues and will pray for you and it will get better ❤️‍🩹. Stay strong 💪. Judy

It's so hard to communicate these types of family things and they way you described grieving for relationship you've never had describes it well. I have issues with my parents and you're right, it is sad and so tiring, and HARD to not let parental behaviour effect one's self-perception or self-worth. You are enough, and you're so worthy of love. I don't really have much advice, other than setting boundaries where you can and stepping back if you can. @SupermodelKara Před 14 dny

Good Morning. Just downloaded the Better Waverly cardigan, I can't wait to knit it! My heart hurts for you and the things you're going through with your family, especially with your mom. My advice would be allow yourself to grieve, the more you hold it back and hold it in, the more difficult and prolonged the hurt will be. It sounds like you need to create some boundaries with your mom. There's a saying that goes "What we allow will continue" and you aren't being kind to yourself by continuing to allow her to have access to hurting you. I know it's really difficult to set boundaries but it's very much worth it. I have had to set boundaries myself with family and at first they were very angry with me but my peace is worth protecting more than their feelings and more than allowing them to treat me and make me feel bad or upset with them all the time. I wish you all the luck and Thank you for writing this wonderful Cardigan pattern.

Taylor, first of all, thank you for opening up regarding your personal struggles, especially one so complicated. Where do we draw the line when managing a situation that clearly is causing extreme hardship and grief. Parents are supposed to love their kids, right? Yet when they clearly don’t, how else would you feel but not good enough and wanting something we know we’re never going to get. I don’t have any good advice, unfortunately. I hope you have considered therapy to assist you in your struggles. That adage may sound trite but I believe it- you are enough. Period. ❤️❤️❤️ 🐈‍⬛

I’m so sorry you’re going through that, Taylor. I’m 52 and my mother is 80 and I’m still going through the same type of things with my mother. As I raised my kids, I did everything I could to do be the mother for them that I so wanted and needed growing up. It was so important to me that they felt loved and capable of doing whatever they wanted in life. Now that they are grown, for whatever reason, I find myself having to re-navigate through the lack of a relationship with my own mother. It’s tough, but learning to stand up for myself and setting hard boundaries has improved my mental health so much, even as our relationship has become almost non-existent. I’ve had to learn after this long in life, nothing is going to change. I hope that you can find some peace with your relationship too.

Thank you for sharing such personal struggles but it is such a common occurrence for parents to manipulate children. You just continue living your life the way you desire and let your mum live hers.

I can totally relate, I am 48 and continue to mourn the childhood I did not have, and family relationships. The onion analogy has always helped for me understanding the process of the grief and how it uncovers new things. What has helped me the most is mothering myself and try to give myself what I need/needed. I feel you and see you, know. your are not alone on this path.

Thanks, Taylor - it’s always so nice to see you!! Well said about grieving a relationship you’ll never have, as well as the exhaustion of being the one responsible for your own well being. I feel this so much but I’m sorry you’re going through it right now. Lilies up in Washington are finally blooming and the leaves are starting to fall. It’ll be pumpkin season very soon! Never comment so I’m sorry if this is super rambling, your cardigan is so beautiful!! Amazing job, and I appreciate the attention to sizing as someone who is so often a schmedium (small/medium). Hope you have a great week! 🐈‍⬛

There is a saying “no good deed goes unpunished”. It seems to happen to everyone. I now ‘think’ before I ‘do’ having caught myself out several times when offering to do things for others.

Just loved this tour but was very very upset to hear you hurt your finger so badly! Yes, it’s always best to use heavy duty gloves when you are playing in the dirt. I hope you recover soon as it seems like fall clean up is around the corner. And you need your hands! 😊❤❤
