The carmaker Rover launched its first entirely new model since German giant BMW took over the British group four years ago. Britain's biggest motor show in Birmingham provided the setting for the launch of the Rover 75, an executive saloon, on Tuesday (20/10). Rover, like other car companies, is hoping the new car will help pull it out from the recent doom which has set over the industry. The Rover 75, instantly recognisable as a Rover but with a perceptibly sleeker outline, was designed and developed by Rover engineers. But their partner BMW also helped in the development, providing support and expertise. The Rover Group will build the new car, which effectively replaces Rover's 600 and 800 models, in Oxford, England.
