  • In this video we take TurboShed to Santa Pod dragway (down south) and run a Father vs Son challenge for who can run the fastest ET. We also record 0-60mph, 60-120mph, top speed, elapsed time and show live datalogger data as we do our runs. Enjoy the competition, and see who ends up buying supper on the way home :-)
    We were pleased to get a chance to show what Turboshed can do, the times and speeds we ran were not half bad - we certainly embarrassed a good few expensive supercars, and our 60-120mph times are well into supercar territory. Pretty good for a 30 year old home built super-budget 4 door saloon running budget street 225 tyres....

    What an awesome father/son day out! Love the build, those are impressive runs for such a heavy car. Would be interesting to see how it runs against my 1UZ mk1 Mx5, it's stock power but under a tonne. I'm sure you'd smoke me, but it would be fun!

      Without that massive headwind, a bit more practice and with the car on all 8 cylinders I reckon we'd be good for an 11 second run close to 130mph :-) We also have the option of cheating and turning the Haltech traction control function on, might try it next time and see

      @@Concept5North yes with them terminals you're getting it should see 11s. What was your quickest 60ft? I think you're probably losing a bit of time on the 1st 1/8th. Still well done! BTW..The black Honda with the drag slicks was one of my friends haha

    • @Concept5North
      @Concept5North  Před 4 lety +1

      2.1s was the best 60ft, but the car is just so heavy, and running 225 road tyres, it is not fast to launch, we lose loads on the 60ft to most cars. It makes up all its time at the big end. Mind you, the black Honda was moving, no way we could catch that! We were only 4mph off it at the 1/4 mile though, we'll have that with a few more runs :-)

    • @Ghaffur2005
      @Ghaffur2005 Před 4 lety

      @@Concept5North 2.1 on road tyres isn't too bad considering the weight lol.. If you get some slicks on it then the shafts and diff might need some upgrades. 1.5 60ft will probably see you into 11.2 11.3 with the terminals you're doing! Yeh you need to see his other Honda... That will be going into the 8s very soon fingers crossed 🤞🏼

    Looked like a great day out! With some better tyres and some more fettling it looks like you could go much faster!
    So you've accomplished drift, and now drag but how about top speed?
    Elvington airfield hosts "Top speed Tuesday" on selected dates. £150 for the full day as many runs as you want over the measured mile.

    • @Concept5North
      @Concept5North  Před 4 lety +2

      Ah yes you are ahead of us! We don't live too far from there. From the runs we did on the drag strip I think we'll hit the rev limiter in 6th gear long before we hit vmax. It will top out at ~145mph currently we reckon which is no good for top speed runs. I think as standard the LS400 has a 3.62 rear end, it needs swapping for a Supra manual gearbox 3.13 ratio really I suppose before it would be worth heading for Elvington

    • @FullBoostJ4
      @FullBoostJ4 Před 4 lety

      @@Concept5North that would make sense, in Lincolnshire where I am there are no drift events close by and I cant fit the LS400 on my trailer so I've decided that the most economical thing for me to do would be to build a road / top speed car. Using the stock 4 speed auto combined with the later 5 speed diff 'theoretically' the car could approach 200mph if it had enough power🙄
      Its definitely possible but doing it in one mile is the hard part🤣
      Congrats on a great build and keep up the good work👍

    • @Concept5North
      @Concept5North  Před 4 lety

      200mph - we have enough power to do that, but you need some aero mods. Have a read about this car: www.evo.co.uk/jaguar/9740/jaguar-xfr-225mph it claimed 600bhp (I don't believe that, I'd say a bit more....) flat floor, slam it down, rear spoiler and smooth wheels/arches you'd get an LS400 over 200mph

  • @victorkanagui9479
    @victorkanagui9479 Před 3 lety

    I'm not an expert but next time clean up tires before every run, get lower psi if its not getting traction, dont just go front, be careful and stand just when 2nd light pops, turbo needs to charge so you guys need to learn heel-toe to stay on gas while going slowly to get 2nd light, when those light shows up let go the clutch before green lights shows to improve RT, you were shifting too early, let the engine go to @6500rpm or even higher if u can, shift faster, practice to shift like a sequential gearbox

  • @21Willly
    @21Willly Před 4 lety +3

    20psi is way too high on even budget tires. Try dropping it down to closer to 12psi in the rears next time you’ll be able to launch harder and stick better. Leave the fronts at 25psi or higher as you want less rolling resistance from them and soften both the front and back coilovers to the softest to transfer the weight to the back wheels or better traction. I go to the drag strip by me quite a bit in the summer. Other then that loving the work you guys are doing keep it up!

    • @Concept5North
      @Concept5North  Před 4 lety

      Cheers for the tips! We'd never even been to watch a drag strip so just guessed a few settings. We went down to 20psi there, but still very much traction limited in the first 3 gears. We'll drop the pressures in the rear more next time, maybe even try to sort some better tyres :-)

    • @21Willly
      @21Willly Před 4 lety

      Scottparts At least where I live (US) I can pick up used slicks or semi slicks at a very low price but what an older gentleman who drag raced back in the ‘60s-‘70s told me is he used to buy almost bald tires for the rear that acted just like slicks

    • @Concept5North
      @Concept5North  Před 4 lety

      We tend to find on modern road tyres that they offer more grip when about new, they start to lose grip when worn, and by the time the tread is about gone they are terrible for grip. Either way, drag radials are the way to go for 1/4 mile times!

    Good terminal speed what 60ft you getting?

    • @Concept5North
      @Concept5North  Před 4 lety +1

      60ft is not so good because the car is so heavy, I think our best was 2.1 seconds. Next time will be faster, we've already done some tweaks👍

    • @dominiccox330
      @dominiccox330 Před 4 lety

      Scottparts drop them tyer pressure’s start with 15psi then drop to 12psi see what happens and find a happy medium. Car would go a low 12 with a good 1.8 1.9 60ft for sure but the terminal speed would drop

    • @Concept5North
      @Concept5North  Před 3 lety

      Agreed, we need a lot more traction off the line as until half track we cannot useful throttle! We'll have to see what finances look like as we would need some 14" or 15" rear rims too, all ours are 17" and 18". The diff is solid mounted to the rear subframe :-)
