Toyota RAV4 Tips: Remote Start Key Fob

- In this episode of Toyota Tips we show you two hidden gems you may not know, how to remote start your Rav 4 using the key fob and how to unlock your doors simply by waving your hand under the door handle.
These methods will not work with all Rav 4's, only those with the upgrade sound systems.

Thank you for this video. My salesman told me how to use it but never showed me so when I tried it, it did not work because I needed to hold the button down much longer than I was doing, plus you showed how the lights blink and also how the car shuts off for security reasons. There are dashboard settings to have it changed there for all 4 doors!!

Funny at the dealership out in TN I asked about the remote start and they literally had no idea. One guy just suggested I go to all to an audio place, which I did. Now the dealership is trying to day my Rav 4 with only 7k miles is having a battery issue because it's not Toyotas. I'm like I was here last year asking for it so I got one...but makes no sense to blame my battery always dying after months of installing my remote start.

You can also lock the car as well by double tapping the handle when the key fob is in your pocket :)

Our 2019 rav4 will have blinking lights after clicking but it doesn’t start. Do they blink regardless if you have auto start or not? I changed the battery in the clicker

This method worked on my 2019 Camry SE hybrid but it does NOT work on my 2022 RAV4 hybrid Limited.

Hi. Toyota is telling me the remote start on FOB will stop working once the subscription expires. However starting with new cars the remote start using FOB will be good for 10 years.
Nah. I got the 2024 and I definitely was told 1 yr sub.
I have the 2024 rav4 and used the remote start on the app. My subscription expired on 3/11/24 and I was concerned but am able to use the fob to remote start. The range is short however. Seems like you need to be about 5. Feet from the car. Still testing the distance though

I've seen 3rd party/after market options out there, but not sure what they run.
My car started like that once, and then never again. And what's the point of starting it and having it heat up in the cold but then it shuts off when you open the door to try and get in?

I have a 2019 LE rav4.. a mechanic did remote start my car while i waiting outside.. i asked him how he did it, he said it takes a few tries sometime.. it never workwd when i tried...😢
You say push the remote 3 times but you don't say which button. It's the lock button.

why did you lose it lol. i was thinking about it. but the face it turns off like that tis pointless to me. if anything it should turn off if the keys are not inside and it drives away
Just gotta start it like normal when you get in. But at least it's warmed up

Yes. There is a plug beside the hood latch that you simply unplug . It will put the vehicle in maintenance mode . Only thing is will affect is shutting off auto stop and a very brief display that says "auto stop disabled ".
Oh there not all automatic foe unlocking doors , its weird mine is pre set cuz it opens all 4 just by touching the interior of the handle

No, you then have to subscribe to services and pay for the feature

Does this still work for the 2023 RAV4 gas/hybrids? They no longer have the audio plus head-units. Also will the remote start with key fob work without a subscription plan?

Have an old Toyota Prado with a remote engine start for the purpose of warning the engine before driving off. Just wondering purpose of remote engine start for a modern vehicle which may not need warning other than just over engineering the vehicle and making it less reliable.
Now it's used most commonly for warming or cooling off the interior of your car before you get it.
I have a Toyota Camery Hybrid Le...and when I approach the vehicle, it makes a wierd noise...Is this what your talking about?
Wait what if I want to keep the car on after starting With remote control? Every time I go to open the door the car turns off even if the fob is with me
It turns off for security reasons. Not sure if there's a way around it.

@@unbezo398 If you have your temp control set to "auto" it will start your air conditioner or heater so the interior will have a more comfortable temp when you get it.

I mean it is a nice safety feature in the car but if the door is open then people would easily steal something that is in the car, my suggestion would be another upgrade
It doesn’t unlock your doors unless you walk up with the fob on you. You can also remote start using the Toyota app from any distance, even a 1,000-miles away. In San Francisco you want to leave every door and window open so BLM can loot it without breaking any glass. Thank you Nancy Piglosi. 🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳
So how do you get into your car without making it turn off?
Not sure there's a hack to this. It shuts off for security reasons, so someone can't take off in your car.

This remote start and safety "theft" feature sucks...1) key fob was near the car and you opened the door...why the shut off?...2) The rober doesn't have the key fob...so the door should be LOCKED!!!...Please fix this Toyota...lol...massive oversight on that...BTW, Rav 4 has cheesy radio and comfort controls...I like my 2019 Toyota Camery Hybrid Le controls better.
Toyota removes this option automatically after 3 years. I'm really mad its not working anymore unless I pay $80 every year.

That's only for the APP. Not the FOB
@@goodguy1651 I'm paying the subscription just to use the FOB. I called to deactivate the subscription and the FOB stopped working. If the car is new you get like 5-10 years with the FOB then it will stop working.

Yay a safety feature which defeats the entire purpose of remote start because you have to wait on the Toyota's crap to boot up then the Bluetooth to come on Then the Wi-Fi to come on making deliveries in this vehicle is the most frustrating and infuriating thing on planet Earth It is impossible to leave this vehicle running so you don't have to wait on all of that crap to restart and hope and pray your devices automatically reconnect or just leave your vehicle running and unlocked Those are the choices that you have making deliveries in this vehicle. I've tried leaving it running locking it with the window down then rolling the window up and then it does the same thing You literally have to restart and wait on everything I've crawled out the back window and you still have to wait on it to reboot every single time! Please for the love of God give customer's options in your software for the love of God!
Pro-tip: Don't do intros for this type of video. There are people out there that have places to be in a hurry and are trying to figure out how their Rav4 starts... Your intro is completely unneccessary and a waste of the viewers time
Horrible design. Why can't I just hold a button ?? This damn thing hardly ever works. You gotta press it with a certain rythym where you need to see the lights go on. What if Im not standing in front of the vehicle inside the house ??? Stupid stupid design
