Beginner Draping: How to Drape a Basic Bodice

- As a part of our garment constructions tutorials, we are going to cover how to drape a basic bodice using the muslin blocks that we previously prepared in our last post in this series. Draping is a technique that allows the designer to immediately see how their garment looks as well as gives them free rein to rearrange and play with the design before anything is stitched together.

FYI: Before you place the muslin on the center front, turn it under 1" and finger press. With a pencil, draw both grain lines on the muslin in an inconspicuous spot. The tape needs to be measured from the waistline, upward. It doesn't look level.
You make this look so simple! I have a question about something I'm having trouble with. When creating the bust dart, how do we ensure the dart starts below the bust apex as needed without creating a bubbles or puckers of fabric? When I am draping, the dart seems to want to go all the way up to the bust apex but I don't know what to do with the fabric between the dart tip and the bust apex. Thank you so much!
