  • The origin of the Newport Tower is one of the most hotly debated topics of Colonial American history. The discovery of astronomical alignments in the tower in the 1990's led to more investigation into the enigmatic tower, and more theories about it's construction.
While the common perception, even among historians, is that this structure is the ruin of a colonial era windmill, it must be stressed that this theory has never been proven, and no archeologist who has studied the Tower has ever reached that conclusion.
Jim Egan, the curator of the Newport Tower Museum takes you on a tour of the Tower's architecture and possible origins.
According to historian David Beers Quinn the first English colony in America was to be settled in the area now known as Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island in 1583, but the Colonization effort failed. Egan's research indicates that this tower is the physical remains of those efforts.
According to Egan, the Newport Tower is the oldest European-built structure in the continental United States. Jim explains the rest of the story at his Newport Tower Museum (adjacent to the tower) and online at newporttowermus...

Jim, you have done all you can now to promote this amazing piece of our ancient history. If you want to take a chance which maybe you would then come over here and I'll show you alignments but you have to actually see them to be impressed. Keep up the good work for without people like you the world would be an even meaner place as it on this day Dec 14th A.D. 2019. is mise le meas.

I passed by this interesting Stonetower every day when I lived in Newport,Rhode Island. I was always drawn to the tower it never ceased to fascinate me.The only version of the tower that I had heard of was that it was connected to Benedict Arnold and it was a grist Mill. Architecturally speaking I didn't see any evidence of where there may have been supports for grinding gears. As I passed the tower I always felt there was something very mystical about the tower. The Pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge and other monoliths across the globe are all in alignment with Orion's belt. Is the Newport tower in alignment with Orion? I am aware of the Knights Templar legend of the Newport stone tower. I wish I could revisit Newport and hear your version of the towers origin. If I called what you tell me? Great presentation. Thank you.

...because the other parts of the structure was wood and fell apart or the wood taken away and used for other structures after the was no longer in use. Dr. Vasquez, History.

On Google Earth, if you pull a line from Pharaoh Akhenaton's Temple, in the Egyptian city of Armana, straight through the center of this Tower, the line hit's directly on the Scottish Rite 33 degree Headquarters in Washington, DC.

To give you some perspective, the city of Sante Fe was founded and had 1,000 residents before Rhode Island was founded as a colony.

Every building on earth has some kind of astronomical alignment with something, somewhere, at some time of the year. I think we tend to attach significance and intent to things that are random.

If this thing is only roughly 400 years old than I won't bother going to see it. I thought it was built by Vikings. If it was built by the first gov of the state than I don't care to see it.

As a conservative estimate there were hundreds and hundreds of them similar styles all along the northeastern seaboard! 99.9% of them were torn down the stone repurposed! We can figure out who built this in Newport Rhode Island! But we're going back to the Moon in 2024? Most intelligent species on Earth LMFAO
