Just what I was looking for. 6 Yr old video still helping people out. Cheers.
Informative video. Thanx much for taking the time to teach. Folks like yourself make this work and world a better place to be.
FINALLY!! Someone with the common sense to know the only way to get rid of rust is to cut it out and put fresh metal in!!! Welding over rust or using filler is never going to last! Well done fella! Fantastic, informative video.
Mark Morgan thanks for the postive comment, every day is new learning experience.
I know a way to do it without welding. It's a bit naughty. But if you just wanna get another year out of your vehicle. This works and will get your motor through it's MOT. Wire brush the the rusty hole, then stick on a piece of metal with anything at hand. You can even super glue it on :-) . Then just stick on some wraping vinyl all along the sill. Hair dryer in on or use a heat gun. Job done in 20 mins. I have liked your video. Thanks for the upload.
Very watchable and - at least to a total novice like me - really informative. Thank you.
Nothing wrong with that fix. You always take your time and plan what you're doing. Great video - keep them coming!
Aaron McConnell many thanks for the postive reply.
A useful enjoyable video. Thanks for taking the time to document the process and explain it all step by step. It was also nice to hear the good old Norn Iron accent too :)
I just bought a welder and plan on doing the same thing.
Brilliant job, great step by step, even gave the welding settings used, thank you for an excellent video, so helpful!
To keep the shrinkage to a minimum, use 0.8 wire and 90% argon/10% CO2. Welds a lot cooler, and lot less distortion.
excellent job! most people will not go through and show everything or just fill it with foam. this is a great step by step. tips for anyone new to a welder try some tacks on a scrap piece of metal and get comfortable with it.
Nice little job, thanks for the video.
i will do my nissan like this guy,,not bad,,,i learned fast from this fellow
nice repair the proper way well done ,some people would just use fibreglass and bodge it..
Well done. I have an old mk4 with a few similar holes but I need to start looking for a mig welder. Great video Cheers Gerry
Nice job! Thank you for the video!
Thank so much for your great details video
Good video thanks for sharing .
This was a massive help thankyou
this was really helpful cheers
Great work
That was a good fix, not like alot who wouldnt weld and grind and would rather just filler. Did you cavity wax the insider through a grommet hole to seal it properly?
Thank you, sir! All it needed once the patch was in and the welds ground down was body solder which could be filed to just the right shape. But, even good plastic filler would serve as well; I learned something here today!
Very nice!
I have the same problem on my 09 Dodge Ram 1500..good fix but you probably are going to have additional rusting along the whole rocker panel. I plan to replace the whole panel and back spray it with undercoating for future rust protection.
Keeps er runnin fer another while sure👍👍
The tool is what I used to know ages ago as a ‘joggler’. Lost mine, went to the local welding supplier and the young lad had never heard of one.
They were always sniffed at by the pro butt weld purists tbh
BTW one advantage of jiggling/joddling is less risk of burn through, which may be important if there’s sensitive stuff on other side. EG campers with units which would be a costly PITA to remove
Got mine from local auto parts store, nearly sure I seen them on ebay an seen air operated ones as well
just cut to size no overlap
overlap on the inside doesn't hurt anything. Makes it easy to hold in place. I used epoxy and overlap to hold my panels in place before I began welding.
any chance you can give details of welder/gas etc
john marren its argon/co2 gas, got my 20 litre bottle from a hobbyweld dealer, look up hobbyweld.com for your local dealer.
Yeah this was a good video
4:50 what's the name of the pliers?
