    Every once in a while, I remember the day I walked into Toys R Us, looked at MUSHA and Sports Talk Baseball, and said; "you know what, I need laggy robotic voices overtopping a below average baseball game". Crusader of Centy is one of those rare cases when a super expensive game is also really good.

      Yeah, I am a sega fan boi so i am biased, but of all the videos i have done there venn diagram between “good game” and “most valuable” are the closest to being a single circle, brought down only by 3 Ninjas Kick Back and Skelton Krew.

    for quick math/ comparision a 5% bond will double your money every 14.4 years. a game that tripled in price in 20y would be around 5.9% annualized return.

    One thing I’ve noticed in my collection and others as well, if it’s NES or SNES, I don’t care about the box and manual. However if it’s SMS or Genesis, I need CIB.
    I know this has to do with most Nintendo cardboard boxes getting tossed vs the clamshell but it definitely impacts the value of CIB vs loose for those systems.
    IMO a loose Genesis game would be worth more on SNES because more collectors accept the loose cartridges.

    • @teknohed
      @teknohed  Před 6 měsíci

      This is a really good point, I had never thought of it that way, but the fact that the genesis cases are so indestructible makes loose games far less desirable became there is no reason to ever have a loose genesis cart.

    Tip for Crusader of Centy: Go for the European / Pal Release if you want to play it, it's named "Soleil" and is way cheaper. Around 50€ or so.

    Genesis was the best. I still wouldn't mind playing some of those games. Except maybe the Kamikaze Squirrel one... yikes.

  • @tonyhell

    Was inflation taken into account with these increases? The rate since 2004 is ~61%, so if not Shining Force II actually got cheaper.

    • @teknohed
      @teknohed  Před 6 měsíci +1

      yes.the 2004 prices are adjusted for inflation. there is a link to the 2004 game dude price list i used for the video, in that list the sale price of SF2 was 29 bucks, adjusted for inflation, that’s 49, vs the 69 they charge for it now.

  • @saltysaltytears

    Did most of these games come out at the end of the Genesis' run?

    • @teknohed
      @teknohed  Před 6 měsíci +1

      A lot of them are mid to late releases for the system (which is why you see a lot of sequels) but others are just a older games with lower print runs.

    • @saltysaltytears
      @saltysaltytears Před 6 měsíci

      @@teknohed Which of these would you classify as a "hidden gem"? We all know SF2, Castlevania, and Contra HC... but I haven't heard of some of these.

      @teknohed  Před 6 měsíci

      @@saltysaltytears i haven't played them enough yet to know if they are "gems" but the two I am most interesting in going back to after playing them to capture footage for this video are El Viento and Alicia Dragoon. Both have some weird premises and gameplay and I want to see if they are worth a closer look.

    • @saltysaltytears
      @saltysaltytears Před 6 měsíci

      @@teknohed I was really surprised by El Viento! It has like a 1920's Latinx(?) flapper universe thing going on? Why don't more folks talk about that? Seems pretty original.

    • @brucef310
      @brucef310 Před 6 měsíci

    No real shockers in the increase list. I would have expected to see Spiritual Warfare in the list though. Assuming that is because it was sega authorized.

      It doesn’t look like GameDude have Spiritual Warfare listed on their price guides, it is possible they didn’t carry wisdom tree games.

    Are you talking game cart only or at least with box? I have elemental master complete and goes for around 300

    • @teknohed
      @teknohed  Před 6 měsíci +1

      these prices are taken from game dude ‘s prices lists. Game dude doesn’t specify condition or completeness. but in my experience for genesis games, the carts are normally loose. So i would expect a CIB price to be higher. pretty cool you have a copy of elemental master, i have never seen one IRL complete or otherwise.

    It just feels wrong to be look at games from a monetary perspective, It is well and good if that is where you come at gaming from but as I said it just feels...wrong.

    • @teknohed
      @teknohed  Před 20 dny

      @@heilong79 As a collector, unless you are very rich, you will have to think about the value of the games you collect as you buy and sell. Personally i think it is pretty interesting to see the games change value over time, always curious as to why one game or system becomes crazy expensive while another does not. Doesn’t mean that is the only way to look at games, but for me anyway, it was interesting enough to make a video about. i love games and love all kinds of videos, let’s plays, easter eggs, histories, and development analysis, collecting is only one way to interact with games and i agree that it ain’t the only way.
