    Hey everyone! About a year ago I started using Calia Natural Shampoo and conditioner. I mentioned Calia in my Summer Hair Care Routine, as well as a review I did about them last autumn. After giving them another try, my opinions have changed. This is an honest update letting you know my thoughts on Calia.

      Thanks! And I know that feeling. I honestly do not believe in miracle products. There are products and brands I love, but even those I find I rotate because if I use too many times they are less effective. 🙂 I will say that apple cider vinegar and aloe tend to fix my hair when I'm having troubles. I had a convo with a friend if I was stranded on an island and could only take one beauty product I choose aloe. Hair care, skin care, and can drink.

      Thank you very much Tracy. I'm learning that some things just don't work for my hair and I want to share to help others who may have similar hair to me. On the contrary, these may be awesome for other people who have a different texture than me, a lot of curly ladies love this and it is curly girl method approved. Also those with more coarse and/or dry hair. There are some with fine hair that like it too. But yes I agree, honestly is important. So I do have experience with calia. Not sure if you remember but, a few months ago, I posted I wanted to try the Avalon clarifying but was having trouble finding it. I had bought calia purifying and hydrating and wanted to use them up since they are so expensive. I found that the hydrating lavender one actually makes my hair frizzy 👎 I've tried it on several occasions during different humidity levels (I live in s.e Tennessee) and I get the same result, it just doesn't feel like my hair. I, too, noticed the only differences in their lines are the essential oils. The purifying one is great with my hair chemistry and i love it. I still want to try out the lemon Avalon though. Soon💗 Sorry for the long post. I love you and so happy you posted this video! Much love, Amber the coconut oil hater hahaha

I'm learning that caring for fine hair is a lot of trial and error. I also learned my hair doesn't like a lot of oils and a lot of what other people in the LHC do doesn't work for me. And it's good to be different and not use something just because social media keeps reccomending it, or all your friends are using it. Thank you for watching 💕

      They changed their ingredient list. I was wondering how those ingredients were cleaning the hair as I know a little about formulating. They now say it coco glycoside and Potassium Cocoate as the surfactants. Hmm I don’t think they were being transparent as they wanted to seem all natural. They still call Potassium Cocoate coconut oil. 😒 I don’t like it. I do like the shampoo on occasion though not as a all timer.

    I tried Calia several times over the past few years, with solid use for at least 5 months...first time my hair wasn’t used to natural hair products and didn’t clean well...after switching to a more curly girl friendly routine for a couple years I tired Calia again. The shampoo actually is too cleansing/stripping for my hair and the beeswax in the conditioner over time made my ends frizzy. Their gel is also very drying. Sad because I really like natural products. I should also mention that at some point I contacted the company to ask how their shampoo lathered (I figured it was saponified, but it was never clearly stated in the product description), they simply responded “it just does, isn’t that great!”...not very helpful. As time has passed, I’ve gotten more skeptical of the company, especially after discovering Carina Organics which is nearly the exact same ingredients 🤷‍♀️ too weird. Thanks for the honesty!

I forgot to mention but both Calia and Carina shampoos and conditoners worked well as a body wash and shaving gel. I made sure they didn't go to waste. My fiancé loved both brands. something in Calia (shampoo or conditioner) really messes up my hair. It doesn't mess them up as in it damages them, but it makes them sort of waxy and dull after a while. I realised they put bees wax in their conditioner, and that's just the greenwashed version of silicon to me. Coating the hair with something. But it might not be that. Anyhow I have 2 gallons (yes I loved calia so much at first and got a little crazy) to finish. I will try replacing the conditioner and just use the shampoo see if it gets better. Any recommendation on a good conditioner?

      Hi Emma you can use the leave in on wet or dry hair, I prefer wet hair and reccomend it. It will help your hair retain more moisture and help detangle. For dry hair I reccomend using both conditoner and then a leave in to help with moisture, you can even use a drop of your favorite hair oil to help seal in the moisture of the leave in condtioner 💜

      I love the ingedients, however it did not work out well for my hair. It's very oily and weighed my hair down. When I did the capillary scheudle I used Calia intensive conditoner as a base for many masks such as mixing in agave and brown sugar and that worked well on my hair. So on its own I did not care for it but as a base for mask I enjoyed it. Hopefully that makes sense. It's worth trying out, I know every year for black Friday Thanksgiving, Calia has a big sale.

    I just need a 100% organic shampoo :( why is it so hard! I did my research on how to make my own shampoos but it still uses some kind of liquid soap that is store bought ! I even tried the water method ((not using any shampoo)

    • @naturallyantonia
      @naturallyantonia  Před 4 lety +2

      Absolutely. If this works for you by all means, go for it! Calia seems to have a very good pH and I believe this is perfect for the no poo. I've been experimenting and looking into diy natural shampoos myself. I would stay clear from baking soda and castile soap as its pH is too high for the hair and can damange the hair over time. A great alternative for shampoo is using soapberries. You can combine soapberries, amla, shikai, and fenugreek and add essential oils. Soapberries are a natural saponin which adds some suds and mimic surfecants. There are also surfectants you can buy online that are gentle like coco glucoside and they can be used to in a natural DIY shamooo. I plan to share a video making the DIY soapberry shampoo and also one uses gentle surfecants and organic ingredients.

I'm wondering though if the hair loss is due to stress, diet, hormonal, etc. Although Calia did not work for me, I did not experience hair loss. You could certainly switch shampoos and see if that helps and then reintroduce Calia and see how your hair responds.

    Does this shampoo help your hair to grow

    • @naturallyantonia
      @naturallyantonia  Před 4 lety

      Coconut oil and rosemary are both great for scalp health and can certainly help with hair growth. So indirectly this may aid in hair growth. However it's wise to keep in mind that most shampoos will not speed up hair growth despite claims. Unless there is a specific active ingredient like what is in rogaine (all though it has a lot of questionable irgredients) or caffiene, biotin, and certain herbs like rosemary and peppermint may help stimulate more blood flow to the scalp which could result in a very minut amount of growth. If you think how little shampoo you use, you would need more of the pure herb diluted in a carrier oil to get a more medicinal effect.

      I don't have any of their shampoos currently so I was unable to test. The pH of their leave in conditoner was a 4, which is low and healthy. My educated guess is their shampoo is around a 4 or 5. Considering the shampoo has the same ingredients as the leave in, I think it will be very similar.

    I feel like your review is not accurate. I have been using Avalon scalp care shampoo for 2+ years. I could not use it by itself because it made my hair felt rough and drained from any oil content, so I had to use another vegan/natural shampoo to make my hair feel smooth. Also, using Avalon on its own lead to flaking and greasy hair in a couple of days, my head itched more. I just replaced avalon and the other natural shampoo for Calia. I have used Calia a few times now. My hair itches less, flakes less, and cleans my scalp so well. I am grateful. I just ordered a gallon of purifying shampoo now. If you lost hair, maybe there are other causes, you need to take care of that. I hope Calia works for my head as it did for these days. I just ordered their face cleanser, 5 of them at once.
