  • In the Grace Alone Video Lectures scholar Carl Trueman looks at the historical and biblical roots of the doctrine that salvation is by grace alone, a free gift unmerited by human effort or works.
Lessons examine the development of this theme in the early church through the Reformation to the Protestant confessions that still shape the church in the present day. Trueman also explores the biblical means of receiving God's grace through the fellowship of believers, the sacraments, and through the Word of God, and considers how we need to recover this doctrine in the face of today's challenges.

Saved by grace alone? That's about the most unbiblical thing I have ever heard. If it is by grace alone, you don't need to have any faith (Calvin would love you here) because you would be saved be God's grace - ALONE. Also, there is no need for Christ's sacrifice on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Alone means alone. Nothing else needed. God just chooses who he wants to save and saves them. In case you are unfamiliar with what alone means, here is a definition from Merriam-Webster: "exclusive of anyone or anything else." So if we are truly saved by grace ALONE, that would make totally unnecessary Christ's sacrifice and/or any response to the gospel on your part. To put it into the definition would go like this: You are saved by grace alone "exclusive of anyone (Christ and his sacrifice) or anything (faith) else."

@Texas Blues Amen, great verses. But let us remember that no one will be saved by works of the law for no one can keep the law perfectly. We are saved by God's grace through our faith in Christ. Then we "uphold the law" (Rom 3:31). When we come to Christ in faith, then we will keep the law out of love for God. When we fail in that area, we confess our sins and are purified of all unrighteousness. Hallelujah!

You misunderstand. Grace Alone means grace from God through Christ - Alone. The emphasis is on Christ not a mere or antinomian assent. And, obedience can only be through Christ.

@@davegibbs6423 What I understand is that we are saved by grace through faith and that was all made possible by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ on my behalf. None of it is alone by itself. I take my view from scripture, not some man-made fancy saying.

@Texas Blues There is no contradiction. If you keep the law, you will be pronounced righteous. The only problem is that you cannot keep the law.
Thank God for his grace through Jesus Christ!

@Texas Blues You assume wrong. I fully believe that Abraham obeyed. If you knew anything about the scriptures, you would know that Abraham was justified by his faith because he believed God. Gen 15:6
What you are suffering from is ignorance of the truth.
