    Stephen A. hit the nail on the head with this one. Cal always blaming players being too young, not enough experience. YOU are the coach. Took U Mass, a program that has returned to the unnoticeable, to a Final Four. Took Memphis, a program that has returned to being unnoticeable to a Final Four. In fact, the All-American player missed 3 free throws in the final minute. In the championship game against Connecticut, Kentucky shot 13 -24 from the line. This is part of the game. To hear Greenberg speak of Cal being too cool us hilarious. His teams at Virginia Tech couldn't even get an invite to a 64 team, NCAA field.
      Grown men, 24 and 25 years old, playing in an amateur tournament with 18 year olds is a travesty. As ridiculous as Stetson Bennett leading Georgia at 25. Total mockery of amateur status and collegiate atmosphere. Cal probably does need to add older players since it's allowed. Disgusting.

    A big part of the problem with teams like Kentucky, is that players are sold on showcasing their talent to the NBA rather than having loyalty to the winning tradition of the school. In other words, many of the Kentucky players could care less about yesterday's loss because several of them will either be in the NBA or G-league this time next year. Soon after the loss yesterday, the University of Kentucky was an after thought for several of their players! Most teams that are now winning NCAA basketball championships have a few upperclassmen who have stayed in school and built chemistry enough to win championships. Yes, some of Cal's coaching is problematic but, the system that has been created for these guys is a bigger problem.

      He has always been a lousy in-game coach. The age excuse ignores the fact that Tre Mitchell and Antonio Reeves are 5th year players. Ivisic was a freshman in academic terms, but was 21 and playing in a professional league for two years. Also, not all his guys go to the league. Bryce Hopkins, Keion Brooks, and Sahvir Wheeler were good college players this year. He moves on from guys, because he always wants to chase the next big thing. He can't have it both ways. If you are going to give up on guys who don't make it right away, you can't complain about being young when you lose. All his "I want to help kids" thing ignores the ones he either runs off or loses interest in. Some of them end up developing into players who are better than freshmen.

    The players are definitely a huge part of the problem. In 2012, he had a core of returning players such as Doron Lamb, Darius Miller, and Terrence Jones without which he couldn't have won the championship or even made the Final Four. One and dones have ruined many teams' seasons. OJ Mayo at USC and Kevin Durant at Texas were distractions to their teams. Austin Rivers was the reason Duke lost to McCollum and Knutson's Lehigh team. Jabari Parker is the reason Duke lost to Mercer. Washington caused Kentucky to lose to St. Peter's. Never recruit someone who has his eyes on the NBA from the second he sets foot on campus.

    • @Wetrockstah2116
      @Wetrockstah2116 Před 3 měsíci +1

      You spoke straight truth. The players come to Kentucky to take the next step to the league, which in turn can hurt the program if not run correctly. Like an old coach once said "play for the name on the front to take care of the name on the back". Some kids don't play for that anymore and Cal rarely has guys return the next year, and this year he has guys that actually need to come back. Most of these dudes aren't NBA ready, Rob Dillingham is probably the only guy, and Antonio reeves that is NBA ready. If he can start a new trend getting these young five star talents to comeback for a second or even 3rd year in some circumstances with NIL and such he might be able to get back to winning. But until then he also has to look in the mirror and see that he needs to make a better effort in the X's and O's aspect as well. It's a shame because he has let his players first mentality destroy what he has built at Kentucky.

    After Kentucky won the championship, they missed the tournament completely, after starting the season as the #1 team. Then they got beat by Oral Roberts in the first round of the NIT. When you’re recruiting players that are focused on going immediately to the NBA, you have to hope for lightning in a bottle. How do you build a culture or an identity when half your roster changes every year? Calipari needs to change his recruiting strategy.

    Cal needs to quit worrying about putting kids into the NBA and have some of them come back they can get paid from the NIL deals now. The 2015 team is a prime example of what could be if he had some of these kids come back instead of worrying about putting them into the NBA. I believe he can turn things around he's just going to have to change his style a bit. Like I said these kids can make millions from NIL deals now so there's no need to worry about the NBA.

    I think everyone is forgetting that Kentucky’s roster on ‘21-‘22 team was its oldest in program history since the 1950s and they still were bounced by St. Peter’s in the first round. It may not entirely be due to youth and inexperienced players. Just saying.

    Calipari for year's mastered recruiting one and done NBA caliber players which is what led to the success of the basketball program. As time went on that magic he had has gone away and the top players in the country lining up to sign up with KY are going to other teams because now players make money prior to possibly getting drafted through sponsorship and endorsement deals. Unfortunately times have changed the way college players stay committed and lastly now many players are entering transfers portals like crazy John got alot of work to do to turn this entire program around

    When speaking about Caitlin Clark, please leave any comparison to mens college basketball players out of your mouth. It cheapens Caitlin's accomplishments because it reminds folks that she ain't playing against men. Let her be great in her own lane. She is great in her own lane, but not in the mens' lane. Caitlin could not make the roster of any division one mens basketball team - we all know that! When you compare Caitlin's performance to mens' performances you make it harder for biological women to keep biological men out of their competition.
