Yeah, making electronic music myself since 2007. It's basically a process of finding some interesting sounds from a sample and then setting start and end points for sounds, mapping it onto a midi keyboard or mpc and then start playing around till you like the way it all fits together. Very rarely did I have an instance where I KNEW from the start how the final track would come out. Like the people above said, it's a lot of happy accidents.

You can set the editor ruler to BPM. Add a drum loop that fits then cut, copy and paste the bits until you get it making a melody. It can be a lot of fun. Useful for parody songs.
